sometimes you just need to sit back and think

Saturday, March 17, 2012

This is what I have been doing.. I weigh most everyday... so I know I am eating ok.. I have learned this over the years... that NO sugar is not part of my life style.. and fried foods are bad for us.. we all know that... we are all working very hard to change our livestyles so we can be healthy and strong... by the way.. No you do not have to be 110 pounds to be healthy... I personally would look like the living dead at that weight... actually I would probably trip over body parts if I didn't have them strapped to the body if I were to be that weight... so a healthy weight to me is what ever you can maintain and feel good at...

For me that would be 135.. the girls are still there... the behind is still up where it belongs and the clothes look good... problem is getting there.. hmmm so I went from a very active life style to a pretty sedate life style.. so I either get a job that requires me to burn a few hundred calories a day more or I lower my calorie intake... thats simple math... problem is living with it... I know the horrors of going to far below the daily suggested requirement... and I am living in a body that knows all too well what going over that requirment could mean...

So for me... and this may or maynot pertain to you... but for me... I need to cut back on what I WANT... and what I GET.... I love salads... yesterday we had a salad for lunch.. so yummy... and I realized I really miss my 'lunch salads' I didn't loose weight all that fast doing my lunches this way... but I felt better.. I stopped because of dental problems.. the teeth are still not up to 100% but I hope they get there... I have 4 weeks till I see the dentist again... lets just say.. I have been in more pain than if I were to deliver a baby a day for 2 weeks straight... I'm on the mend... and salads are back in my diet.. YAY... so back to my plan... I need to keep the daily calories low... so I can eat what hubby fixes for dinner... at least until I can make the changes at work to be home to cook our dinner meals.. hubby try's but his idea of a fast quick dinner is Pizza... only one slice but that one slice is full of salt and processed meats... non of which are any good for us...

I also need to up my activity.. thats a no brainer but seem so hard to accomplish.. so how will I do this.. I will get me another pedometer... by the way I love the Omron... the others I have don't measure the steps as acurate as I want them to be.. also I can make a mental note to increase my steps each day... I did this before and worked like a charm...

I can't make it in here every day... so I will make it in here when I can... I cannot stress over this anymore it just hurts my progress... The bottom line is... I have not gained weight since the first of January.. and I have not lost much more than the first 8 pounds... I will.. and I'm not worried... I will be blogging more and I will be charting my progress... I hope every one is having a wonderful weekend.. I hope you all are on track.. and that you find what works for you... Take Care my friends.... Ronie

I would love to weigh 135 too. I eat a salad every day for lunch. It's my favorite lunch. I need to move more as well though I have been doing better.

Hi, Ronie!! You will get there; of that I am sure. What I am trying now is staying off the scales. I haven't been on the scales since February 11 and I am not planning to get on it til Easter Sunday. I am staying on track and am hoping that the scales will be good to me. Hitting my goal in October 2010 was great but some how I got away from doing right. This time when I get there, I will stay there!! And I know that you will also!!

Ronie, I understand and appreciate your comments. Everyday is a struggle for me. I have so many issues going on at once it is a wonder I can remember how to log in here, but I am doing what I can and I have decided not to stress about it because I can't manage anymore stress right now.
We just have to be true to ourselves and not worry about what others say or think. I applaud your committment to yourself and your ability to give yourself permission in some instances and not be too critical of yourself. We can be our own worst enemy and obstacle.
Best wishes to you and your family...enjoy each day.

Where do the days go??

Saturday, February 18, 2012

I swear I was just in here... last week!!!! gosh...
Well lets see I am not sure if I mentioned the headaches but I had severe headaches for a few weeks. So when I checked my B/P it was high and that meant a visit to my doc... she puts me on B/P medication .. one of the side effects say...'May cause dizziness'... and it did... so I have my blood tests done and the Cholestrols up.. I know I mentioned this because I am getting wonderful support and advice.. I love it all... I am trying to study up on it.. but back to my summary..LOL. I then get a few more meds(for my sinuses) and told to increase Niacin, Omega 3, and come back in 6 months to see how I'm doing...

Well well well.... all 3 meds have side effects of dizziness... I feel like... hmm you know what.. and I'm so darn dizzy I feel like I'm going to pass out... but the B/P is down... and I can breathe.... good grief.. so I am opting to be able to work and do some work at home on my computer...like 'sparking' so I'm cutting the sinus spray.. see what happens... then I might have to cut the other med.. but NOT my B/P meds.... if I can't get feeling better I'll have to see my doc about this.. I am in contact with her... and I'm following her advice on how to narrow this all down..

But its why I have not been in here... we were planning on going away for the weekend... but I want to feel good for that so we are going to wait a few weeks...
I have my weeks worth of meals planned out.. work week that is... I will have lots of fresh veggies, salads, and lean protein.. plus take my vitamin's...LOL

I was watching Dr. Oz and he had Montel Williams on there. Montel was talking about all he does to stay healthy.. I know he has MD but is doing so wonderful.. I am thinking of either getting his book or going on his site and see what all he has to say.. I was very impressed with the show.. did anyone else see this???

Well I need to run.. doing laundry, cleaning the house... getting ready for the week ahead... Take care my friends.. I hope you are having a great weekend... Ronie

Ugh. I hate to be dizzy. I hope you get that and the B.P. under control soon.

As far as I k now Montel smokes a lot of pot for his M.S. LOL. He doesn't make a secret of it.

Hope you soon start feeling better. I believe Montel Williams has MS. How are you doing with controlling your cholesterol? I am not one for liking to take many pills. I do take my BP med, my thyroid med and now I am taking a pill that includes both calcium and vitamin D. Hope that keeps my bones stronger.

this is what I have done.

I just got real interested in knitting a little over a year ago.. I have made different things but never a garment.. ok I did some socks.. love them but I have never done a sweater.
I bought the yarn and hubby said .. "why aren't you knitting that sweater you were all excited about?" I told him that it was a scary thing to try... and he said to practice on one for him.. so I did and here it is...

today is his birthday.. and I tried to make if for Christmas but I'm still very slow.. he was so proud of it.. we went all over town running errands and he told everyone I made it for him.. its pretty cute... we are celebrating our anniversary and his Birthday together this year because we both have to work on the 14th.. it will be 22 years..

Well I hope everyone is having a great week and will have a wonderful weekend..Ronie

My doctor suggested the Spark People Message Boards..

Friday, February 03, 2012

Last night I jotted out a blog on needing advice ... I forgot to add what my doctor said... she said for me to check the Spark People Message Boards for some ideas on how to change my diet and lower my cholesteral.. How cool is that... I love the fact that she understands what I am doing and is suportive of this..

So I did go on the message boards and I came up with this link... www.sparkpeople.com/resource/health_
conditions.asp?condition=15

There is a lot of reading to be done. I will keep everyone posted as to what changes I need to make and what is working..

I want to thank those who are helping me with this... I really thought I was eating right.. and I still think that but I am missing something .. its a mystery...LOL I love a good mystery....

Take care everyone... Ronie

Any and all advice welcomed.

Isn't it funny how when I'm on a mission I strive head forward. I need to fix the problem and be done with it.
When I have a goal, I can do anything. If its for vanity I have the state of mind.. well.... theres always tomorrow.. and tomorrow seems to be pushed around. Do you do that.. think well its only a few pounds.. I really want that hamburger so I will be good tomorrow ..? Its so easy to do.. and I think its human.
Well I had my labs done, the first in over a year so it was over due... My past fears have always been my blood sugars.. there is nothing worse than the doctor saying .. you have diabetis and you had better loose weight or your in real trouble!! Well thats what brought me to Spark People.. Well my blood sugars were real good...YAY... they say you can't beat Diabeties but you sure can take control and not let it beat you!!!.
The problem I ran into that I need your advice on is Cholestrol.. mine is getting bad and I chose to work on this from a diet and supliment side rather than the prescription side... I'll go that way if I can't work this out my way... But for now I would love to know what changes everyone has made to keep theirs under control???
I will be researching this.. and blogging about it.. not a lot... because my next appointment is in August.. my doctor knows I will do my very best to get these numbers down... and is giving me the time to do it...
I hope you are all going to have a wonderful weekend.. stay strong and know that if I can ever be a help I'll be happy too.... Ronie

My cholesterol has been high forever. found out it is connected to my thyroid issues. It may never get to a normal stage. I just try to eat all good fats and stay away from fried foods. I do eat eggs though because they are not as bad as they are made out to be. They help me with energy through the day. I love love coconut oil...if you haven't tried it get some. It is wonderful. Great to use instead of butter or even olive oil in some instances. it's really good for you too!! Anyway, great to see you! I've been gone so long was hoping some of my friends were still here!! Have an awesome day Ronnie!!!

I don't worry much about total cholesterol though as it is not a true indicator of heart disease risk. Most of the cholesterol in your body is manufactured by your liver, only 15 t0 20% of it comes from food. C-reactive protein is a much better indicator of heart health. The important things to concentrate on your lipid profile are your HDL, triglycerides, and HDL/LDL ratio. Cholesterol meds are over prescribed. They don't do anything to change the HDL to LDL ratio which is the most important thing. They have serious side effects and I would not take them. The best way to lower cholesterol is to not smoke, limit alcohol, exercise, lose weight, consume omega 3 oils, get fiber, and cut back on the worthless carbs.

I just had my labs done in January. My cholesterol was 218, a bit high, but it was right after the holidays and bad eating.
A number of years ago (over 20) my cholesterol was way high and my doctor wanted to put me on medication. I did not want to do that so asked him to let me fix it with my diet. The next time I went, he was amazed that I had lowered it to below 200. As I recall, I ate bran muffins a lot. But if you really eat a healthy diet, it should do it. You have to bypass those fast food burgers. Those 'buy one, get one free' ads are just so tempting when you know they will be yummy. But they are not worth it. Make your own hamburger and you will be better off. Just not too often.
You can do it!!

Lean cuts of protein- rotate lentils and beans in there too..
Lots of vegetables
Sources of oil fresh fish omega's, plant oils ( avoid heating them where possible heating oil destroy's it and turns it saturated- I add mine when I take my food off the heat and still warm enough to mix it in) and a decent plant lowfat margerine...
Max 4 whole eggs a week- egg whites are cholestrol free but many researchers say we need the yolk to break egg white's down to avoid stomach upsets.. check "processed foods" for traces of egg..
I steer clear of animal fat- anything that hardens is saturated fat... I eat lean sources of cheese and I long distance walk..
I also cook with telfon pan- this decreases the need for added oil to grease the frying pan..
Some of my habits- I have thinfat people on my dads side.. They have normal and under weight bmi's but suffer obesity lifestyles illnesses anyway (cholestrol plague).. I also look for products that improve on what I am already using.. Try not to eat too much sweets and cakes- this can also increase our bad cholestrol levels without realising it...
