Stability - for Steph

Friday, February 22, 2013

Ok so the challenge was to write about stability. For Step - it was about dealing with money in an unstable economy. Mary - wrote about stability/priorities. Now for me it would be about emotions.

I have been blessed enough to have monetary ($) stability. (don't get me wrong I worked hard for it also, but I also know the good Lord had alot to do with it).

However, when I lost Mom in 2009 my world was rocked. I fight everyday to not go down the road toward depression. I admit it she was my rock, always has been.

Now with the troubles in my marriage of 27 years, things are feeling like they are falling apart around my ears. I always thought I was not an emotional eater, still don't think so, but wine well....... Let's just say I could have a drinking problem very easily if I let myself. Working hard on not going down that road either.

Ok didn't realize how hard this was going to be to put in writing, WOW well now maybe I can get over the hump. I SHALL MOVE ON right?

well....I sit in in awe...and ....I also feel bad. I don't think any of us had an idea. I realize now that you don't show your laugh and joke and behind the laughter is.....Vicki...being strong.

YOu are a strong person.....and you are loved.....we love you ..and we are behind you ....ALWAYS.

Oh Vicki - sometimes just getting those thoughts out there is the most important step in dealing with them! Had no idea you were having those problems and you KNOW my thoughts and prayers will be with you as you work your way through them! HUGS!

Healthy Snacks

Friday, December 07, 2012

ok for a challenge on my spark team we are suppose to come up with a list of healthy snacks. Ok so here we go. I have been trying to get in more fruits and veggies.

1. Chicken wing celery - NOW WAIT don't panic no frying involved or for that matter chicken.
Just celery sticks, Laughing Cow Blue Cheese and hot sauce. Only 1 WW point. Gives me the crunch I want in a snack. Now it is not going to replace Chikcen wings (after all I live in Buffalo you know). but it does work as a healthy substitute.

2. Greek yogurt, mixed with sugar free jello pudding, usually cheese cake flavored and some kind of fruit. Again WW points only for the yogurt 2-3 depending on you yogurt.

3. Apples and Peanut butter. This is a little higher on the points end with the peanut butter, but some days you just need it.

First of all, YUM. I want to try the Chicken Wing Celery and Greek Yogurt w/Jello. I'm already a fan of apples & peanut butter.

I really like hummus and veggies as a healthy snack. Or, air popped popcorn!

Freeze 5K

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

ok on the 50th birthday, is the Buffalo Freeze 5K. I was going to run this 2 years ago, but ended up with a severed achillies two weeks before. so....

So here is the goal. I want to finish! Well really I would like to finish in 45 mintues or less, but at this point I will be happy to just finish. (Well not really).

So tomorrow I will get on the treadmill at 5:45AM and see how long it will take me at this point to do 3.1 miles. and go from there.

Ok so last night's WW meeting was about adding movement to your day. It made me realize just how much (or should I say how little) movement I am actually getting in a day. I have a very sedintary job. I sit at a computer for like 8 hours and I compute for another 1.5. So that makes 9.5 hours of sitting (see I am an accountant I can add-LOL). I do try to get some exercise in either the morning before or the evening after. But really does 30-60 minutes make up for ALL that sitting? Probably not. SO......

Today I am going to start trying to get up every 30-60 minutes and move for at least 5 mintues at a clip. Every time I have to go to the copier (which is only about 30 seconds from my desk) I will keep moving for 3 minutes. Don't care what people in the next office think. I NEED to do this. I think maybe i will try and go down to the fitness center in the basement (yes we have one down there, pretty cool) at lunch and move on something for 15 minutes.

So who will keep me accountable to this? Any volenteers out there?

Ok so I figured by the way me clothes are fitting that the scale at TOPS was not correct. And last week I found out just how "off" it was. At WW I was up almost 11 lbs. I am back to withing 10 lbs of where I started in 2004. This is not not not acceptable.

So this week I lost 6.8 lbs. Now I know this is just the first week rush of a lot of weight. (been at this too long to figure I can keep doing that kind of number-LOL) I hope that next week I can lose maybe 1/2 of that again. Just need to keep trying.

At this point I am going to give WW 3 months and see what happens. I think I do like the structure of it. And face it after all this time with TOPS I do know what is good for me body and what is not. yes I could eat at McDonalds and use all my points in one meal, but I know that is not how it is suppose to work.

Don't get me wrong I am not putting down TOPS it has worked for a lot of people, and in the beginning it worked for me. I just need something with a little more structure at this point.

so here we go week 2.

SW - 270
week 263.2

MASTERCARE 5/31/2012 9:12PM know how much I praise and push weight watchers...I do. It is a balanced program. I know nothing of I cannot compare the two or even sound like I know what i am talking about!

Let me say this.....

YOu know I am doing extremely well right now. Was it wws? Nope. It was doing Jillian's Body Revolution. I still count points, but my fitness level is off the charts right now and my eating is under control. I changed. What I was doing changed. I needed something different and went out and found it...thus..I am truly ready.

A change of scenery is just what you may need. You are obviously ready or you would not have joined wws. Again..not saying a word against TOPS...just needed to shake it up...something new....

Proud of you.

LUv what Alice said. She is right. It doesn't matter what program you belong too, U R the one that has to make it work. I liked WW, but I didn't like spending the $$$$.
I think I belonged to TOPS off n on (mostly on) for 1/2 my life. I made some great friends and had super fun times at meetings and conventions, but..................

Then, I found SP by accident in 2006. The first year I think I dropped 35 pounds.
Since then it has been a yo-yo thingy, but they say not to give up. I do eat healthier, I exercise more. I am in my 70's and not taking any perscription drugs for those obesity related diseses yet, so I must be doing something right. I have had the oppurtunity to meet some of my Spark Friends in person too (fun fun)
SPARKPEOPLE is FREE and it is here 24 hrs a day for me, so I feel if I can't get the job done here, WW and TOPS aren't going to help me either. JO

Just remember, Vicki, it is not the PROGRAM that WORKS, it is YOU that has to WORK the PROGRAM. Study the points system, the good health guidelines and make sure you are getting them all in. The main key is to TRACK TRACK TRACK. Measure your foods and make sure your portions are correct and that you are getting all your points every day. Try your best to forget about those 49 weekly points that are hanging over your head. They can certainly get you into trouble. You can do this as long as you do it right. How do I know????? Because I am not doing it right and I am not having the results that I know I would have if I did it right. Let me prove to you that working the program gets the results we want. This week, I will work the program with you and we will see how we both do this next weigh in. My ww meeting is on Thursday. Let's prove the program is not the problem but how we work it.
