Wii Your shape... Calculated cal & such do you believe they're accurate?

Monday, January 16, 2012

Just a ques.. I recently started doing the wii your shape N though it (some days) is picking different body parts the last few days seems the workout has been the same. I was supposed to be working on arms today but the workout was pretty much the same as the other day when she picked chest (2 days in a row). On performance it rated everything but upper body. Isn't arms/chests upper body lol?? I did feel burning in my arms but only the frontal side. Nothing on triceps.. Also like I said the workout was pretty much the same as last time but the last time said I burned like 150 cal N this time 246.. So I'm beginning to wonder how accurate it is?

over did it??

Friday, June 17, 2011

I may have over did it yesterday N now my ankles are swollen.. They never swell up!! My legs are soo sore that they tighten up more just driving.. Should I take the day off?? Was thinking of just a really light workout (lower body) N focusing more on upper body today..

Also will the swelling go down N stay away? Or is this something I may possibly start seeing? I hate the way its making my ankles look..

ADVICE??

My ankles swell, too when it gets hot out and I overdo or if I eat too much sodium. Putting your feet up does help. Also, put lemon in your water, it is a good diuretic in case you have eaten too much sodium. But, I would keep exercising-evn if it is a 10 min walk- unless you are in need of a day off. SP recommends taking a day or two off a week, if you are really active. It helps the body heal! Hope you are doing better today.

Take it easy. Maybe try upper body or even just a slow walk to get blood pumping but I would not push yourself. This is your bosy telling you to rest!

elevate your feet if you can. I'd do upper body only- give your body a chance to recover before you're back at it
Hope you feel better soon

Thanks =) I did decide to do pilates today N I wasn't sure at first what it was about.. My idea was focused on stretching and poses but it actually incorporated cardio as well and turned out to be a good workout..

If I go to a solid 60 minute yoga class I burn about 300 calories and I do sweat. I burn about the same in pilates too... the differene is pilates is more of a focus on abs where yoga focuses more on arms, legs, and butt! I love them both, but Yoga is my fave!

I've never done a pilates clas, but I have heard that classes that use the equipment are good for toning, and even when you are doing strength training you are burning calories! :) As far as yoga, there are different kinds. Forgive me I am not an expert, but this is my experience with yoga. 1. It REALLY depends on your instructor. 2. It depends on what sort of yoga you are looking into.

I have had Vinyasa classes (FLow Yoga) in which you work through poses connecting them with breathing. They are relaxing, but challenging, as you move frequently, but not rapidly. I come away feeling like I have used my muscles and my heart rate does elevate while in certain poses.
Ashtanga yoga will burn calories! You move constantly from one pose to another. Sun Salutations are basically like football up downs if that tells you anything. :) It is fun, energizing, and will get your heart pumping. When I'm done with one of these I want to jog home (and I HATE jogging!).
If you are new to yoga, it is probably best to start with Vinyasa or Ananda which is a slow class focusing more on the breathing and fluidity than heart rate. It is useful to learn the basics so you can move fluidly through the poses.

Hope this helps. All of this is from my personal experience. My friend is an instructor and she will have me come to classes she teaches or I'll tag along when she was trying out new things before she got her accreditation, so again I am no expert.

I am not sure, but I do know that I feel these workouts after doing them. Not necessarily the same day, but usually the next day I hurt in places my normal workouts don't target. They are also great for building core strength, which will help with anything else you do.
