Discovering What I Already KnewTuesday, January 11, 2011
I realized last night that exercise is such a sleep aide. I'm continuing my journey to a healthier lifestyle. I didn't say that I'm re-starting as I just got detoured and now am back on the right path. Yesterday, I walked even though it was frigid outside. My determination to avoid another detour was the impetus for that walk. Last night when I finally stopped I realized that my body was tired. It was a good tired. As soon as my head hit the pillow I was out and had such a restful deep sleep something that I hadn't had since my detour. ![]()

Yes, exercise is a good way to get rest. Of course, you need plenty of sleep when you're exercising because that's when your body is repairing itself and building up muscle. So the two go together. Isn't it nice how you feel after you finish exercising!

It was cold today. No it was frigid. I started walking for 30 minutes 5X per week. Last week I engaged a co-worker to walk with me. Well today she was sick and it was very cold. I looked at the clock and it was 12:05 cold outside was a good excuse to not walk. I looked at the clock again and challenged myself to put on my shoes and cut at least 5 minutes off the distance I normally walk. Up out of the chair, shoes on, scarf, hat, gloves and coat and off I go. The first 5 minutes, not bad, 10 more minutes and my legs are freezing, speed up, 5 more minutes getting very warm, last 5 minutes thighs now cold. I've made the turn heading back to the office. Hit my office door and check my watch and yes, 5 minutes less, I did it in the cold. At the end of the day had a late meeting downtown. Decided to go home after the meeting and had a 15 min walk to the subway and 10 min walk home. A great walking day but tonight my legs are aching but it's a good ache.
Will I have the same energy tomorrow. I don't know. It's suppose to snow.
