Great day

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Had a great day today. After a very long stressful couple weeks and multiple very long boring lectures. I passed my first International Trauma Life Support class and got a 91% on the written test. Had to retest on the practical skills station because I forgot to obtain a SAMPLE history and a blood glucose level. Oh well. At least I aced the second one. Think my nerves got to me and skipped right over it.

Why me

Wednesday, January 05, 2011

Every once in a while I just have to sit back and say "why me". I believe that God won't give me anything that I can't handle and it takes a day like today to remind me to give up all my worries and troubles to him. When I first started typing this entry I had forgot that.

Thank you Jesus for keeping me, my crew, and my patients safe today. Please be with my coworkers tonight and delivery home to their families. Amen

Very true. Every so often everything snowballs on me and getting it out the other night really helped.

Im not a religous person per say, but I believe we are not given more than we can handle. We must learn to adapt to what is handed to us in life. Keep your faith in whatever you maybelieve in, and keep a smile on your face. Its the one thing noone can take from you!

Another Monday

Monday, November 29, 2010

Haven't quite gotten the hang of blogging yet. However, I am gonna keep trying it until somebody begs me to stop.

I digress. Today was an average Monday for me, class went well. I stacked firewood for a few hours and feeling pretty good. But, I did manage to pinch a finger and got hit in the shins by a runaway block. Still not too shabby. Helped out in the Emergency Department for a few minutes before settling down for a few minutes with the free wifi and my laptop to catch up on a few things.

This past weekend has taught me a few things about the type of medic that I want to strive to become. Some of that came from some experiences at work and others from reading some professional blogs by a paramedic in England (999medic.com).

Now as I wind down for the evening, reflecting on my day; I can only hope that everyone is doing well. Anxiously waiting for tomorrow and the encounters that it will bring.

As I look out the window, I can see that it is starting to snow. This pleases me only in that it brings me one step closer to skiing. Good Night Everyone. 999medic.com/

Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 25, 2010

I do have a lot to be thankful for this year.
My two boys are healthy. I have a great job that I like look forward to going to. My
advanced EMT class is going well (haven't started cardiology yet :-(). My family is healthy. I have a deer in the freezer.

But the best thing is that I have lost 34 pounds so far, and I feel great. I have so many positive things going in my life but my ex keeps finding new and inventive ways to push my buttons. I "unprogram" buttons but she seems to keep finding new ones. ugh

On call for work and missed out on having Thanksgiving dinner with everyone. Thank goodness my mother loves me and the leftovers were the greatest. I even managed to stay on track with my calories today. Good thing I measured everything.

When you pray for strength, you get an opportunity to be strong. When you pray for patience, you get an opportunity to be patient.

Treat everyone the way that you would want to be treated!!

Stay safe

Before these crowded halls

Friday, November 19, 2010

Here I am walking into the emergency room at my local hospital. About to begin my third clinical rotation for my advanced EMT course. In New York there is a certification level between Intermediate and Paramedic.
Turned out to be a very busy day. The nurses and doctors did everything they could to give me a chance at hands on experience. I must have spent 9 out of the 10 hours I was there on my feet.
It turned out to be a very humbling experience but I was able to pull inspiration from multiple places, the nurses that worked there and the patients that I helped to treat.

A good day with many more to follow!

"Keep getting up"
