Trying to get back on track

Thursday, March 27, 2014

Well March didn't turn out to be a great month :( I had family visiting from away, still not working and very stressed out financially. I just ate whatever whenever and now the scale is telling me why that's a bad idea. I'm right back where I started in January! :( 180lbs!!

I have gotten the job at the hospital! There is a lot of paperwork and tests and things I have to do before I start, and even then I have to do some training and orientation, so it's a long process but I'm guessing I'll be working by mid April!! It's shift work, not the monday-friday 8-5 like I'm used to. But morning shifts are 7-3 and evening shift are 2-10 so it's not crazy late or crazy early, I can see pros to doing some shifts. Like if I have an evening shift I'll have to day to myself, and if I have a morning shift I'll get off the same time my daughter gets off school. It pays well, but I start as casual, so I have no idea how many shifts a week I'll get. Full time would be 5 and that's what I'm hoping for but there are no guarantees so I'm a bit anxious about that. I've been trying to stay busy but I keep turning to food, comfort, boredom, not really sure but honestly I feel terrible!! I started cooking healthy today and what a difference!! I made a smoothie for breakfast, eggs and toast for lunch, and haddock and salad and sweet potato for dinner!! I know I can eat healthy, I know I can lose weight, I just gotta get back on track!!

The weather here has been terrible! I started running outdoors a bit but we keep getting nasty storms!! I have a sunday run scheduled and it's supposed to be nice out so I'm excited for that!

Tomorrow is date night with my boyfriend, I can't wait!! He's been so sweet and kind and supportive about me being laid off, I'm so lucky! He's so encouraging about my new job, and it's just so nice to have! Honestly I think it will be for the best, I've always wanted to work in a hospital! And it's unionized which I think is a good thing!

That's about all that is new! Hope everyone has a happy and healthy weekend!!

Wow....it's been a month since I blogged

Thursday, March 06, 2014

Where to start?

Well I think I threw my biggest loser challenge out the window, not sure why, but I did.

Wed January 1st - 180.4 lb
Wed January 8th - 176.4 lbs
Wed January 15th - 178.0 lbs
Wed January 22nd - 174.4 lbs
Wed January 29th - 173.0 lbs
Wed February 5th - 174.0 lbs

I didn't weigh in for the whole month and when I stepped back on I have gained, and I should have gained, I've been eating not very good

Wed March 5th - 175.4 lbs

So....where to start? There was a lot of stress going on at work and I knew it. My boss was being a b#$%# and was causing a lot of unnessecary stress about every little thing, picking me apart for any tiny little mistake I made.

Then on Thursday February 13 (right before Valentines, really?) I was laid off. My employment was immediately terminated and I had time to pack up my desk and leave. After 6.5 years, and lots of friends made it wasn't easy. I cried some tears, and hugged some good people good bye and went on my way. Honestly I was looking for other jobs anyways, I wasn't happy there because my boss was such a "insert bad word here" but it was still hard to get kicked out like that.

My boyfriend was very sweet and supportive (thank god!) and I've been keeping busy, applying for jobs, interviews, walking the dog lots (even though it's the dead of winter!! Brrrrrr)

Buster helping me apply for jobs. He thinks he is a lap dog

Morning walks (in the cold) after taking my daughter to school every morning

We've also been picking my daughter up right after school at 3:00 everyday instead of her going to her after school daycare. So I'm getting to spend more time with her. Buster is waiting patiently for her to be out of school.

Here is my little monkey in the shirt I got her when I was in Disney!

We even skipped a day of school and went to the country to visit my grandparents. I snapped this picture of my grampie's tractor in all the snow!

Buster got the cone of shame again, this time just a cut in his ear that won't heal, so nothing big thank goodness!

I got about 6-7 inches off my hair! It was so long! I like the new hair do!

My little one went to her school dance and asked me to curl her hair! She's so cute!

Buster has taken to snuggling with my daughters tigger pillow, haha

Anyways enough with the pictures......I have been keeping busy, very busy, but being without work has still been stressful. I got severence pay so I'm okay for now but I'm a worrier, so I'm stressed, I can't help it! I've been able to keep going to physio since my benefits are still good until March 13 and physio just said I could start running again (But it's -22 today so I might wait until it warms up a bit). I've got all my teeth cleaned and fillings done before my benefits ran out! I've been running errands and getting things done that I don't normally have time for. But I'm also eating my stress away. I'm bored, stressed, lonely and eating :( Way too much and not good stuff. I've been feeling really down about it. I had lost 7 lbs in January and gained back 2! I know that isn't a huge number but when I have so much to lose it's dissapointing! :(

Anyways I am not going to let this cycle continue! March is a new month to lose even more weight! I can do this!! I will do this!! I'm going to use my free time more productively!

I am also about 98% sure I have a job lined up. I will find out hopefully today! He seemed pretty optimistic about me getting it. It's like a dream job for me so I'm very very hopeful! I'll be a unit clerk on the orthopedic floor of the hospital here! I've always always wanted to work at a hospital so this would be a dream come true for me! I never wanted to work with engineers, just find it boring, but got stuck there since it was a good job. But this is where I really want to be!! I'll have to blog again when I find out for sure! But until then healthier eating choices are going to be made while I'm home, no matter how stressed out I am! I have all the time in the world to prepare healthy meals, I have no excuse!!

Here we go! March is going to be a good month!!

Wow...that is quite a lot to deal with in a month....it is your last companies loss, any employer would be lucky to have you.....glad you are doing well....love the new hair cut....Buster ahhh my buster...I have missed that cutie and your daughter looks so pretty for her dance...

I had a hard month last month I will post about it later...however, I should not complain I have my health and my job is going well...my hubby however has been in pain since November, his shoulder...well after many dr's and referrels the next stop is the spine surgeon...that is March 18 with an MRI for him this Saturday....It is hard because he really hasn't gotten any real sleep since November, if he rolls over on his back or left side, he is in screaming pain.....I just wish I could fix it for him, he is just soo tired and in soo much pain...it is taking a toll on me...(but I should not complain) then they switch my bith control to a lower dose estrogen one since I am getting too old to stay on it 42 and all and after 3 months of switching now my period has stopped....kinda stressed about that one, but the gyno says I should not be worried and no I am not pregnant...just feel bloated as if I was.....

It is soo good to hear from you buddy....I missed you....

Cherrie

Crossing my fingers that you find a job!! I know how stressful that can be which can make weight loss even more difficult.

We all have setbacks, but don't forget to celebrate how far you've come already. You can get back on track and make March a GREAT month.

Feb 6, getting back on track

Thursday, February 06, 2014

I know I know I just blogged yesterday but I want to blog a bit more upbeat today and get myself right back on track!

I had a bad weekend/week so far and my weigh in wasn't great, but I know if I get right back on the ball I'll have a good weigh in next week!

I find when I'm in pain (which I still am a bit but not letting it derail me anymore!) I tend to eat. I'm also stressed about this job. It's a potential good stress but a stress non the less. It's an exciting opportunity and a great company! But it's longer hours and more traveling everyday. So I'm having a hard time deciding what's best for me and my family. I know I don't have to make a decision until they make me an offer (which is still a maybe right now anyways) But it's a huge life changing decision and I'm nervous!! So that sparks bad eating, mindless eating. NO MORE!! I've got this! I can handle life and still eat right!!

This morning, greek yogurt and banana for breakfast

I made this awesome salad! chickpea, cucumber, tomatoe, red onion, feta and some olive oil, herbs, balsamic vinegar! YUM!

Also back to drinking green tea with honey!

and packed a couple healthy snacks!!

I find planning is key for me! If I plan and pack then I'm good!! If I don't I eat whatever I can buy/grab and it's not good!

Tonight I have some haddock that I will bake for supper in some lemon/herbs and garlic, and boil 1/2 a sweet potato and some edemamme for dinner! :) YUM!!

Oh and also lots of water!! The key to avoiding more kidney stones is lots and lots of water!

Oh no, kidney stones....oh so sorry! You food is VERY low cal ! Great choices. "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail"! This is key and so true for me! Great job packing your snacks! If I get low blood sugar, I am in danger of just grabbing something! I have to eat on schedule to keep my blood sugar stable. I always need some protein post workout because I do Zumba or HIT for one hour. In an emergency, these protein snacks satiate....20 raw almonds, a protein shake or greek yogurt and 1 Tbsp. of peanut butter with honey. I also like bananas or hard boiled eggs.

I can see why your potential job offer makes you nervous! Will you have time to exercise with the extra travel and hours? What about grocery shopping, cooking and packing lunches? Enough family time and rest time? I would make a pretend schedule with your new job to see whether you would feel comfortable with the increased work load. Then maybe you could feel more in control about what you are facing if you have to make a decision?

Best of luck losing weight this week , your kidney stones going away and not stressing!

    Great blog! Great attitude!!!
I really, deeply understand, because I do the exact same thing. Recently, things have been pretty rough. Without getting into detail, basically, things - a lot of things - were out of my control and were out of control. You know? That's my oldest trigger and strongest one too. When things are crazy and I can't do anything about it, I turn to food for numbing. Preferably meat, cheese, and sugar. Ugh.

Needless to say, I put back on some of the weight I'd lost, but, like you, I'm not letting this get me down and I know that if I start making healthy choices now, I'll see the results soon enough...maybe by my next weigh in.

You so have this. And I am so stealing that great salad idea. Yum!

biggest loser challenge 2014

Wed January 1st - 180.4 lb
Wed January 8th - 176.4 lbs
Wed January 15th - 178.0 lbs
Wed January 22nd - 174.4 lbs
Wed January 29th - 173.0 lbs
Wed February 5th - 174.0 lbs

I must admit I'm dissapointed :( I know it's only a pound but I want to go down! I want to be out of the 170s soon!!

Anyways I'm gonna recap my week/weekend and maybe that pound will make sense.

Thursday I was eating great, very healthy, very clean! I had a follow up appointment with my urologist regarding my kidney stones (Been battling them for 2 years!) I was hopeful, I had a bought of unbearable pain, trip to emergency, pain meds in November thinking I passed that last one. Well he did a KUB and said it was still there, big as ever, and won't pass on my own, so he booked me for lithotripsy the next day!

Thursday evening my boyfriends mother wanted to take us out for dinner. Even with all the stress of finding out I was having day surgery I looked at the menu online and picked out a salad called sweet heat from swiss chalet and it was 440 calories. A fresh and flavourful fusion of fresh mixed lettuce, roasted red peppers, carrots, sweet corn and Mandarin oranges tossed in a kiwi-lime dressing. Topped off with a sliced Rotisserie Chicken breast, glazed in a tangy Thai sauce with toasted sesame seeds, itís certainly something to behold.

Friday morning I took my daughter to school and headed for the hospital for 9:00 am. (that's what time they told me to be there). I had to fast, so nothing to eat or drink that morning. I got all in my hospital gown, locked up my personal belongings and waited........and waited.........and waited! They didn't call me until 1:00 pm!! I had a chat with the anaesthesiologist, then they hooked me all up, IV, blood pressure, heart monitor, oxygen mask, the works. It's the 5th lithotripsy procedure I've had for this same stone! It's insane. I've had enough! Anyways they did the procedure, I was sore and groggy but I went home around 4:00 pm. They didn't say anything post opt, just to come back for a follow up in 6 months, but that's what he said 6 months ago when this happened then............lithotripsy every 6 months doesn't seem like a solution to me.

So I got home and was sleeping on and off and my boyfriend says he is going to order pizza for dinner. I figured I hadn't eaten all day so why not. So I had two slices of pizza and went back to bed. Then I get up a few hours later and he was running to the store asked if I wanted anything, so I asked for orange juice and chocolate covered raisins. I probably ate my entire calories for the day in that one meal and snack. But when I'm hurting I just want food. Saturday was a free for all, since I unleashed the monster Friday I just ate, because I was hurting, because I was upset, I don't know why really, I just didn't care. I was having the worst day ever Saturday. I just couldn't function like a normal person. I was dropping things and breaking things and finally ended up just calling it quits and going back to bed. I was trying to be superwoman and make lunch for my daughter and clean and do things around the house still but it didn't work. So lots of sleeping happened Saturday. and with lots of sleeping comes lots of Cuddling!!!

Sunday was a bit better. Still alittle sore but nothing compared to Saturday. My boyfriend made crepes with spinach/kale and cheese for breakfast. Relaxed most of the afternoon. Took the dog for a short, slow walk. My boyfriend wanted pizza again (It was the superbowl) so we opted for homemade pizza, he made his cheesy, pepperoni, greesy pizza and I made whole wheat thin crust full of veggies/chicken pizza! YUM!

Monday started out okay. I was tired but other than that I was okay. I switched up my breakfast and through in some raspberries with my greek yogurt. I ended up having a free muffin someone gave me. My willpower seems not as strong....

Tuesday had a good day. Worked all day. Eating right. Then the chip man comes in to restock the vending machine. I always stay far far away from the vending machine and never bring change in for that reason, but the guy was restocking it and offered me a free bag of chips, I turned it down........then he hands it to me anyways saying "You deserve it!" ggaaaahhhhh I should have thrown them out, but I ate them :( Had leftover healthy pizza for supper, took my daughter skating after work, then went to a friends to watch the biggest loser season finale! I won't say anything about it, since I don't know if anyone watched it.

This morning I weighed in and felt kinda sad. I think I can kick this back in the right direction fairly easily, but when I'm tired/worn out it's hard to have the determination. I also miss running terribly (physio said two more weeks). But I know I'll get there, just having an off week!

This morning I had an interview for a new job!! WOOHOOO!!!! I loved the office and the people, the job seems really interesting, but there are some cons that I have to work out if it's worth it. It's further away (more traveling), and the hours are a bit more than I have now (only 30 more minutes a day). Benefits/vacation are the same, if they send me an offer I think I will end up making the decision based on the salary, if it's a bit more I'll take it, if it's the same/less then I won't.

This is me, dressed up for my interview!!

For the week you've had I would say you did well. That pound could be a bit of water too from the surgery and pizza. Hope you are down next week.
Don't be too hard on yourself. You'll be out of the 170's before too long. emoticon

Weekly Wednesday Blog - Jan 29/2014

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

First of all my biggest loser challenge is going well

Wed January 1st - 180.4 lb
Wed January 8th - 176.4 lbs
Wed January 15th - 178.0 lbs
Wed January 22nd - 174.4 lbs
Wed January 29th - 173.0 lbs

This equals 4.10% weight loss so far!! Woohoo!! I had a rough start because of my vacation but I'm more determined than ever! I doubt I'll win first place, a lot of other people are super ahead of me (9%) but that's okay. Just by losing weight I'm winning!! :) I'm excited to see how the next 7 weeks of the challenge go, but I'm also not stopping after that because I still have a long way to go!! My ultimate goal weight is 125-130 lbs. I know for some that seems small but I'm short! Super short, so it's actually still quite a "curvy" weight for my body, haha.

So the weekend went well. We had a low key date night Friday night because I still wasn't feeling great. We made salmon, sweet potatoes and some spinach. It was delicious!

We cleaned up and then we watched a scary movie and snuggled all through it! It was a little crammed, we don't usually snuggle during movies anymore because of Buster, I take one couch and he takes the other and Buster usually picks me..........but we really wanted to so all 3 of us crammed onto one couch, hahaha I was lying on my bf and buster on me, it was a pile up! It was nice to get close to him though.

Saturday I picked my daughter up from her father's then took her to her first 4H meeting. Since she's still young (11) she is doing something called exploring 4H where she gets to just touch on all the different projects and then next year she can pick which ones she liked the best. So Saturday was woodworking and they were making a gum ball machine.

It was really cool to see her get so involved in making it!

The finished product, she decided to paint it

She had a 1.5 hour dance class right after the woodworking so I packed us both a healthy lunch (tuna fish sandwiches on whole wheat bread, with cucumbers on the side) so we weren't tempted to stop for fast food! Then we just had a quiet weekend the rest of the weekend, caught up with laundry, groceries, cleaning, etc.

I found this old picture of Buster from the ad that we bought him from. He's the middle puppy!

Hard to believe how much he's grown up!!

He really didn't want me to go to work this week at all. I think he enjoyed when I was sick and snuggled him all day long. He keeps coming up to me and just resting his head on me, almost like he's asking me to just stay home with him. It's adorable and kinda sad, haha.

I have officially given up coffee!!! WHAT?!?!?! I know I know. I honestly don't think coffee is bad for you, but when I have coffee I want sugar and cream, I've learned to drink it without but I always want it. Then I find it makes me crave something sweet when I do drink it. So I've switched to green tea with honey and milk! It's doing the trick for me!! Brittany got me this adorable mug in Toronto when she went to the aquarium with my brother

I've been having greek yogurt and blueberries for breakfast all week so far.

And made a big batch of pork chops/potatoes and edemamme for lunches (pork chops were on sale) for my lunches all week!

I haven't been running again yet, BUT I did go get new running shoes yesterday and it got me excited!! When I do get back into I desperately needed new shoes, mine were very worn out and that alone can cause running injuries!

Here they are!!

I have an assessment on Monday to see when I can start running again!

In the meantime my friend gave me her T25 workouts and I want to start those on Monday! I know I should be able to find 25 minutes a day for those! I've heard good things about the workouts. I just know the only time of day I'd actually fit it in would be mornings, and it's so hard to get up early sometimes, but I'm going to really make an effort, I think it'll help me reach my goals that much more!!!
