a fine line

The basic difference between being assertive and being aggressive is how our words and behaviors affect the rights and well being of others.

- Sharon Anthony Bower, author

I have to admit I struggle to find balance between assertiveness and aggressiveness. Part of it is that there is no basis for assertive women in my life that did not cross over the line. My mother was definitely a b*tch...oddly, now that she is aging, she has lost some of that assertiveness, but not the mean streak. It is a strange thing to see in retrospect.

Today, I went to yoga, played with the dogs, went to Kroger and came home to make a huge batch of baked eggplant! There should be enough to freeze, even after my husband finsihes eating. ;-)

As I mentioned in a blog comment, I am going to Hattiesburg to pick up Princess, the Katrina rescue dachshund, on Wednesday! Woo hoo!

You are so awesome for being a part of Princesses rescue...that is amazing. I am learning the difference between assertive and aggressive the more I work with my dog, a rat terrier named Honey. We bonded to the point where she became my child and I became her sister, so we are learning new boundaries. I have become much more assertive to the point where I think in my head first of what I want and then execute the goal in little to no voice. Its a challenge but great for me and the dog. I have been watching a lot of the Dog Whisperer, can you tell...is it that obvious???

My friend Lisa came over today, so that I could work on getting her digital camera opertational again. While she was here, I took this photograph of her on the sofa with my dog Rudy. :-D

She also took a picture of me in the middle of my messy living room with the three boys, which I will add to my photo gallery soon enough.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

- Bill Cosby, comedian

I have sort of given up on trying to please anybody, much less everybody! I have become even more anti-social after leaving the workforce. I was thinking that I might need to do better in that area until I read this Daily Reflection. LOL

Actually, I am just a little grumpy because I have not felt well in a few days. I feel tired and run down, sort of like I have a cold. I am puny and it shows. I have help off on whining, but now the cat is out of the bag. Whine, whine, whine. ;-)

On the dog front, everyone is getting along great. We are one step closer to adopting Princess and I am really looking forward to bringing her home and being a four dachshund family!

Oh, and the city water problem is finally cleared and I can drink tap water again. I hated creating all that recycling mess. After taking this big batch of bottles to the curb, I switched to 2.5 gallon containers in the fridge until the crisis was over. I finally got to drink filtered water from my fridge the other day for the first time in ages.

If you chase two rabbits, both will escape.

- Unknown Author

I wonder if the dogs know that? They frequently try to chase two squirrels at once.

You never understand a person until you consider things from his point of view.

- Harper Lee, writer

Or walk a mile in their shoes I suppose.

Things continue to go well with Rudy the rescue dachshund. He is really cute and really fun. I enjoy spending time with him and have been working to make Louie (seen in the photo above) feel like he is still number one. We are waiting to hear about the second rescue dog, but I am starting to wonder if her foster mom might be changing her mind. If she is, I suppose we will have to live with that. I just want what is best for the dog. :-)
