Snow

Sunday, February 05, 2012

Snow fell during the night. My husband went out in the morning and shovelled away the snow from our pathway and from our pavement and our neighbour's pavement. Our neighbours were delighted as their little daughter wanted to go toboganing in our local park.
I don't know if it is my low thyroid but I am feeling freezing cold. I don't want to eat. Also our gas boiler that supplies our hot water for the bathroom and the kitchen finally gave up the ghost after 30 years. So we are having to boil up water in kettles and saucepans. Also we
don't have double glazing so the wind comes in. Well I have had my moan for today. Hope
you are all well. Hugs Sylvia of London (England)

Oh boy that's rough! The coldest part of the year and your boiler dies. I had to go to Guildford Hospital on Friday and it was -06c then! I see you are in the London Area. Please eat even if it's only soup and try to keep warm! Take care, I hope you manage to sort out the boiler soon. Susie emoticon

Hi Sylvia - the weather is certainly mixed up this winter, isn't it? Unusual amount of snow in Europe, much less than usual in my section, at least, of North America. I've had to shovel only 3 or 4 times, and no more than 6-8" at a time. In between snow storms the temperature has gone above 0 long enough for most of the snow and ice to melt before we had another snow storm. Very lucky, although I know it is hard on the gardens... my poor lilacs have thought spring was coming several times, so I don't know if I will have any bloom this year. Same for bulbs and perennials.

All of the newer houses in Canada have double or even triple glazing, which certainly does help to keep out the cold, although I close my blinds and drapes to give us a little bit more insulation. The old house where I grew up, in Nova Scotia, had separate storm windows which had to be put on every winter and taken off in the spring. I can remember my father climbing the ladder, hanging onto the window, while my mother and I held onto the ladder below, and hoped he wouldn't drop the window.

Stay warm, and lots of hugs,
Gail

So sorry to read about your boiler! Mine gave up a few days before Christmas and I was so delighted when it was finally replaced 10 days ago (phew!). And I understand about not having double glazing. This is a cost I cannot afford, but if I do at some point it is the first thing I would change about my flat! :) It has snowed in Paris this morning but only a little. I don't know whether it will snow again. I'd rather it didn't, I don't like driving in the snow.
Have a lovely week, Sylvia, and keep warm! emoticon

Hard way to lose weight... but if it works... unfortunately I tend to overeat when I'm sick.

I'm so envious! I've got the flu now myself. When I'm under the weather, my husband feeds me his comfort foods: pizza, burgers, blintes, warm chocolate chip cookies. I crave ice cream (must be the fever), but at least this week I convinced him not to get any.

I did have a glass of 1% milk with those cookies, so it could be worse.

Way to look on the bright side! If you have to go through so much pain, you might as well get something good out it at the same time. All the best and a speedy recovery.

2012

Thursday, December 29, 2011

I am hoping like mad I can lose the weight faster in 2012. I am now 70. Not getting any
younger. Of course, being hypothyroid doesn't make things easier. I am being so careful, even over my birthday and Christmas. I do feel fed up. I do feel the pain of my burn and my
rheumatoid arthritis would lessen if I lost a lot of weight. I am sorry to moan. I am just
having a bad day. Hugs from Sylvia

Sylvia, I think you should be proud of yourself for all your efforts. Weight loss takes time indeed, especially with hypothyroid. But don't get discouraged, you are doing lots of good to your body already... keep going!
I hope you'll feel really encouraged and that the New Year will be a good one for you!
With best wishes from Paris,
Claire

Hi Sylvia - you should be proud of yourself for not over-eating on the holidays - I really over-did it, and feel pretty yucky as a result. Serves me right!

I think that as we get older it is harder to lose weight, and since you are hypothyroid and your exercise is limited, it's even harder for you. Those things must make you really frustrated, and I wish i could do or say something to help.

I'll just say that I'm proud of you for trying. You have lost weight, even if it isn't as much as you'd hoped. Keep up the good work, and I hope the weight loss helps with the pain from your burn.

Best wishes to you and Keith for the New Year.

Gail

Hang in there and don't give up. Weight loss can be incredibly slow.
