This is my bead for March. I get one bead per month that I stay on the journey. I don't lose weight fast, so I really need markers to remind myself that it is not about the weight; it is about being healthy.
Yesterday was Good Friday. For the past 30+ years, I have given myself time to reflect for the hours of 12 to 3 with Stations of the Cross. It is an annual gift that I give to myself. Three hours of silence to hear what God has to tell me.
I use the time to pray, journal and praise. This year was a lot of praise and prayers for continued healing.
Last year I had to take muscle relaxants and carry two pillows to be able to sit in the pew for 3 hours. This year, I only carried a single pillow -that I used to raise my journal for writing. I reflected on how much more balance my life has than last year. I work, I play, I exercise, I create art, I worship my Lord - last year -before exercise-I had to choose which one I would do-I had no energy for two or more. Now i can do it all. Life is so much better!!!
Finding a balance with my health has made everything better and I am truly thankful.

This morning felt like the early summer mornings when I was a child. The sky so clear and beautiful that you couldn't wait to be outside. The days when you stayed outside until you were called home for lunch - then rushed out again because you didn't want to miss a single minute.

Celebrating My Victories

Friday, March 16, 2012

This is my Easter dress. I ordered it yesterday. Since starting Sparkpeople in August, I have changed in so many ways. I feel as young and pretty as this dress.

August 1, 2011 I weighed 301 pounds. March 12,2012 I weighed 267.2-34 pounds gone. It is not fast, but it is permanent. With the help of my beloved husband, I have changed my life.

I exercise everyday. More importantly, I have found Cardio that I can do everyday without pain. I have gone from a good day being 2500 steps to over 10,000 steps everyday. Yesterday was my best yet-over 18,000 steps.

Water-I drink it at least 8 cups per day-usually 9 and trying to reach 12.

Food-we eat at home most days-and when we do eat out it is planned-not just picked up because we haven't shopped or are too tired to cook. We plan out our dinners a week at a time and keep a constant supply of the foods we eat for breakfast and lunch. Fresh spinach and Greek yogurt are always in our fridge.

Clothing wise-I have gone from a snug 26-28 to a 22 and able to squeeze into a pair of size 20 chinos. I have made the choice to no longer buy merely functional clothing, but to gradually build a wardrobe of truly beautiful clothing. My Easter dress is the first piece of my new wardrobe. I have created a wishlist at the shop and plan to buy at least on e new outfit per month.

I have learned to reward myself for progress and not look for perfection. The all or nothing attitude always gets me into trouble. My Charm Bead Bracelet helps keep me focused and keeps me from getting discouraged. It is a visible and tactile reminder of what I have already accomplished.

I have cheekbones and dimples again and gradually my face is becoming heart shaped-not round. I have found the makeup look that I like using a youtube video and bought the makeup and tools I needed to achieve it. I have found the look I like best for my hair -a Cleopatra style look soften with a tapered back. I love the way my locs frame my face with this look.

I'm so happy for you! I lost 33 lbs, but gained some back in Dec/Jan... I think I'm pretty close to the 33 now. But there was no physical change that others noticed... probably because I started at 387 and the progress is slow to recognize. I have enjoyed looser clothing (an awesome feel!) and measurements that have gotten smaller and more stamina and strength. :-)

We got this!
by the way - beautiful Easter dress!!!

March Madness?

Thursday, March 01, 2012

I have been enjoying the March goals people have been writing about.

This one in particular caught my imagination with its enthusiasm.

So, I am setting a goal. I will weigh 249 by 5/31/12. That is 17.4 pounds that will make me no longer morbidly obese. It is doable-just 5.8 pounds per month, but the payoff will be huge. It will put me below the 50 pounds lost on Sparkpeople and lower than 15% weight lost.

To meet this goal, these are the things I will do:

1. Continue to track my food daily and plan out my meals.
2. Continue to track my Cardio daily and plan on burning 1000+ calories per day as calculated by my pedometer.
3. Add more veggies and fruit to my daily intake by adding veggies to casseroles and soups as well as fruit to Greek Yogurt smoothies.
4. Get more sleep on a regular basis-increase my average from 6 hours to 7.5 to 8 hours per night.
5. Drink my water! Start with 64 ounces and increase as much as possible.
6. Watch my sodium and fats.

I can do this!

How Long Has This Been Going On...

Monday, February 27, 2012

2012 has not been going well for me weight loss wise. I have been playing with the same 7 pounds all year and am ready to be done with them. Today, I have been reading entries from successful Sparkers who have lost 100 pounds or more-which is what I want to lose. I have learned that I have been missing some parts to a successful plan.

6 Steps to Success

1. 5+ Fruit/Veggie Servings per Day
My usual day in 2012 has had at most 3 servings-I have to up my daily servings.

2. 8+ glasses of water
I get at least 8 glasses every day-but only 2 weeks this year have I had 8+ throughout the day-rather than a mad dash after 5 pm.

3. Exercise
I have been consistent with my chair marching, but I know I must work on the stationary bike if I want to get stronger. My knees need it! I have only ridden it 3 times this year.

4. Portion control
I have gotten better, but I still go overboard with my fats and sodium.

5. Healthy Swaps
I have come up with healthier versions of most of our favorite foods-but I tend to overdo the frequency of sweets.

6. Spark On!
I haven't missed a day signing in and logging my food and exercise, but I haven't spent as much time reading and encouraging others as I did in the beginning. I am going back to my old standard of shooting for 100 points a day for the month of March.

I am ready to be in the 250's for the first time in 20 years. I am planning to ramp up my plan and make it happen.

All the 6 Steps are great!

Stationary bike is very good for the knees, strengthens them without putting the body weight on. Not only does it make you stronger, but also improves sense of balance.
When I bought my stationary bike, I couldn't do more than a few minutes, because I was bored and perspiration bothered me.
My solution was a portable DVD player in front of the bike so I can watch my favorite series, and a fan next to me, so I don't sweat at all - so I can do 45 minutes without getting bored : ))
My daughter reads on the bike, my son listens to music, m best friend watches TV to stay motivated.

Spark on!
