Got me thinking

Thursday, October 14, 2010

So here goes yesterday I went for my weekly therapy session. Mirah (therapist) mentioned one of my goals which is weight loss. She said how are you doing on that I said i'm in a lazy place right now regarding diet and exercise. So she brought up a good point she said when you get sick what do you do? I said I take OTC medicine and if I don't feel better after a few days I go to the doctor. Well she said that you take all the right steps to get better when you are sick. So ask yourself why you don't have the same approach when it comes to weight loss? That is a very good question she asked and I wish I had the answer!!! I know that I need to lose the weight since my cholesterol is still high but yet I play this game all the time. I have all the foods, gym membership, dvds etc. I wonder why I do this to myself when I know its only hurting me in the end??? Thanks for reading......

Try just taking it one day at a time. I had a couple of months where I really didn't do much exercise at all, and wasn't tracking calories. To get back in the groove, I told myself I would track my calories (not try to stay in a particular range, just track everything) and exercise for 10 minutes a day. Well, when you start tracking calories, you start paying attention and eat better & when you are already exercising for 10 minutes, it is easy to keep going for 15, 20 or 30.

It really helped me get focused again.

I think that's enough unsolicited advice from me - LOL emoticon

Hello Sparkfriends,

I am back on Sparkpeople I took a week break that turned into months. Work has been so hectic but I still need to make the effort and focus on my weight loss. So I plan on logging into the website atleast 3 times a week and exercising 1-2 times a week until I can fit more in.

Wish me luck!!

Welcome back. It hard but you do need to put your needs first sometimes. Glad your have a plan to post 3 times a week and exercise 1-2 times. Perhaps you could walk in place while you're at work, just to get some activity in, if your job doesn't entail movement. Good luck and I'll watch for your posts.

5 days

5 days ago I received the bad news about my cholesterol being high again. I am proud to say I haven't had anything fried, fatty, greasy etc. I have been active each day and hitting my calorie range each day. I can do this just one day at a time!!!

Bad News

Friday, March 19, 2010

I had blood work done last week to check my cholesterol levels and they are even higher then before which doesnt make sense. I limit my fat/fried foods. All I eat are lean meats, fruits, veggies, drink my water. I am active I love to walk. So my doctor wants to me get tested again in 2 months and if it is still high I have to go on meds :( Then the training for my new job got pushed to the 29th not a good day to be me.

Keep up your healthy eating and see what happens in two months. It really should go down by then. I'll be rooting for you and about the job, I'm sure it was disappointing not to start when you thought, but look at it this way, the 29th will be here before you know it! It will be alright..... emoticon

In 6 wks on SP my cholesterol went from 245 to 190. I was shocked by the progress. I generally don't eat any fried food or butter, and was a little surprised by the high number to be gin with. Before SP, I was eating things like take-out chinese and fusion Thai food pretty regularly...Besides portion control, cutting out these foods is the main change that I have made in my diet since SP. One thing you should ask yourself is whether you are eating out and perhaps not realizing the amt of cholesterol being consumed. Two months is a long time, but you REALLY want to do whatever you can to avoid meds. Maybe during that 2 months you can try to limit or avoid altogether going out and also ANY fried foods (unless you fry them yourself in Pam). Two months devoted to strict eating sounds harsh, but if there is a chance you can avoid meds, maybe you should try it. Whatever you do, I wish you the best and good health!

Richelle, one contributor to high cholesterol is any liver oil - cod liver oil being a very popular one. If you are taking any liver oil, discontinue it right away and tell your physician.
