A little down

Monday, January 14, 2013

Okay so not feeling well that last two weeks has taken its toll. Not eating right and not exercising or sleeping well has put me back up on the weight scale. The progress I made over th holidays has been reversed.
That is the end of my pity party. Time to get back up, dust myuself off and start again. I kow I can do this because I already have. My goal for the remainder of the month is to be down to 175. Wish me luck.

I'm pretty new, just two months in SP, and I wanted to say that I hear you. When I was feeling the way you described and voiced a weight goal, it was gently suggested to me that if I set a goal I could control, like a behavior change or a good habit that would LEAD to a weight loss, that would be better than setting one I really couldn't control, like what the scale says.

Sometimes we seem to be doing everything right, but the scale doesn't budge...or it does budge, but UP a bit, and that can make us feel worse. I know this must sound like preaching, but that's not the way I mean to sound. Success can be measured in consistent habits, and I'm assured they do lead to weight loss.:)

Together we can do this, and it seems everyone here has a piece of the puzzle to share. I'll be cheering for you!

:) Gail

starting over

Friday, January 04, 2013

I'm starting over! After what I thought was a great start in November and even making it through Thanksgiving with only a small fluctuation in my weight just before Christmas it all went he__. I work as a 911 Dispatcher where we have a lot of turn over (it can be stressful). just before the Holiday we had someone quit without notice which left us shorthanded (we already had one person out on vacation) for the holidays. Shifts were changed almost daily and long hours were put in. Then with the holidays and obligations to meet and very little sleep my diet was hit and miss. Needless to say I sort of gave up trying for acouple of weeks. Most of the time I wasn't even sure what day it was. I made it through and now have slept almost 1 whole day (thankfully I'm off for a couple of days). Things at work have settled down and we are training new people now. Now I get back to the real work. Believe it or not throught it all I only managed to gain back about 2 pounds. Thought for sure it would be more since I certainly wasn't eating right although I was trying to watch what and how much I ate. But I do remember some of my oldcomfort foods making an apppearance (potato chips and anything sweet). Any way wish me luck as I relight my spark and start again.

Welcome back ... and good for you for only gaining 2 lbs with all that stress!

As long as we don't give up, we can do this!

GREAT only 2lbs : ) This is life and you did GREAT! life is full up hills and valleys and old habits sneak in when we are not looking :O Your not starting over your getting back up : ) The number of times you fall down is irrelevant. The number of times you have the courage to get back up is what matters emoticon

Paraphrasing something I've read at SP several times -- it's not how many times you fall but how many times you get back up! Good for you.

Just got my Sparkpeople Cookbook. Skimming through it while at work and already have picked up some great pointers. This is going to be a big help.

I am addicted to the online recipes. I have been thinking about the cookbook, but I have not run out of on-line recipes to cook.

Thanksgiving

Saturday, November 24, 2012

Thanksgiving is over and I made it through without over indulging. That is not saying I didn't indulge but I tried to be careful. I snacked on the carrots, celery and other veggies on the relish tray without the ranch dip before dinner. I tried to keep my portions small at dinner. But of course then came the pie. I helped myself to a slice of pumpkin and cherry pie. But I decided to feel guilty and enjoy the day. Hope everyone else did too.

Congratulations on your successful navigation of the holiday.

Isn't it great that we can still have pie if we do a little planning?

energized

Saturday, November 17, 2012

Woke up feeling energized today. Don't know whether it is because I've started eating healthier or the little bit of exercise that I've added to my day. It is a slow process but if this feeling stays it will be worth it. I will admit I did slip a little yesterday and had a reeses (my weakness) but I decided not to feel guilty about it and move on.

So glad to hear you are feeling stronger and had a good day. And hey, if you eat well 80% of the time, the other 20% allows for Reeses! emoticon
