Cardio Streak Day 364
45 minute jog
1100hrs 80F

Only one day remains. Assuming I can do a cardio workout tomorrow, it will be 365 days of consecutive cardio for me - a one year streak! I'm excited, and I'm pretty sure I'll have a special blog tomorrow.

For today, I got going around 11oohrs. I know that some of you are still having overnight temps down in the 30s but the outside temp, as I write this, is pushing upward in the high 80s. The sky is pretty darn clear and the sun/heat just started kicking my butt today. I like the idea of the extra Vitamin D and getting a suntan, but it's to the point now where I can feel the heat way too much.

Yes, I'm never happy about the temperature, as I'm sure a few of you will notice and want to point out to me. I complain about the cold (for here, that's down in the 40s) but now I've got six months to complain about the heat. So I really must start earlier before the sun gets up in the sky.

The workout started good today and the first mile tracked at 12 min/mile. I'm sure the heat was a factor before I noticed it because my tracker indicates a steady slow down. At the 45 minute mark, I had completed 3.65 miles which is about 12:20 per mile.

At the end of the workout, I ran cold water over my head and drank a couple of glasses of no-name water followed by a good long stretch which I mildly hate doing. As I write this, I'm having another four glasses of no-name water.

The total workout today was:
4.25 miles
55 minutes
600 calories burned

I'm glad I don't live where you do; I'd much rather deal with cold weather than hot weather. It's rather refreshing to run at 30. I'll still run at 80, but I'm not looking forward to that.

Pre-congrats on your streak, as I don't think anything could stop you from reaching it anymore : ))
It is amazing how much water depletion a run can cause!

Two days until my one-year-streak

Cardio Streak Day 363
25 minute run/walk
1100hrs 68F

It's only a couple of days away, and I'm talking about my ONE YEAR DAILY CARDIO STREAK of at least 20 minutes per day. Yes, I know this is leap year and it's really 366 days, but I'm going to celebrate the milestone on the 365th day, Saturday. As of today, the streak lives!

Today I scheduled a 30 minute run/walk (sometimes I go 45, last week I went over an hour) and the distance and time are subject to how I'm feeling once I get going. Today I was feeling a little of the wear and tear and decided to stop at 25 minutes. In that time today I covered 2.10 miles.

I'm looking forward to the goal of one year with daily cardio. I may, or may not, decide to cut back the workouts to five days per week instead of seven. I haven't decided yet and I may keep going until I decide, whenever that may be. For now, it's full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes.

The full workout today (and I don't report the strength training, by the way) was:
2.70 miles
35 minutes
360 calories burned

Cardio Streak Day 362
45 minute jog
1100hrs 68F

It's getting so close to my one year cardio streak... I'm holding my breath until then!

For today, however, my lower legs are a little stiff. I've been concentrating more on the upper legs and knees during the stretching routine and now the lower leg/ankle areas are giving me fits. You might get the idea that I don't really care for stretching a lot, and you would be correct. So "do as I say, not as I do" - which is what my dad used to tell me - and make sure you stretch after your workouts!

Today I've scheduled a 30 minute jog but it's open enough that I can vary the time depending on how I feel. Today I did a 45 minute jog and covered 3.75 miles in that time.

The total workout today was:
4.35 miles
55 minutes
660 calories burned

Four Days to go for the Year Streak!

Cardio Streak Day 361
50 minute run/walk
1100hrs 68F

A couple of months ago, around the time of the Cowtown Marathon, I wrote about some of the history of Fort Worth. Here's a picture of a plaque erected by the Texas Historical Commission in a section near downtown Fort Worth once known as Hell's Half Acre:

Today is scheduled as a 30+ minute run/walk. I had considered going about dawn this morning but just didn't get around to it. However, it won't be long when I'll have to go around dawn out of self preservation because of the heat.

Once I hit the 30 minute mark, I thought about going longer. At 45 minutes, I wanted to go a little more. At 50 minutes, my knees were barking a little so I called it done. I finished by walking another five minutes for a cool down.

The total effort today was:
4.60 miles
60 minutes
660 calories burned

Less than a week to my one year streak

Cardio Streak Day 360
45 minute jog
1100hrs 68F

I'm back in town and back to the grind, such that it is. I had a great weekend and some of the best barbecue that I've ever eaten, prepared by a friend of mine. I've had a lot of brisket in my day, and this ranks right up at the top - tender, comes apart with a fork, juicy, and did not need sauce at all.

Trouble is, I could pack on a bunch of pounds by eating like that on a regular basis and it's a good thing it's only on special occasions.

For today, I had a 30 minute jogging session scheduled. Once I got going, I felt good enough to continue longer and I made a 45 minute session out of it. The distance was 3.75 miles.

With the warm up and cool down, the total effort today was:
4.35 miles
55 minutes
600 calories burned
