Cardio Streak Day 345
20 minute walk
1900hrs 68F

Three days in a row for "resting" my legs. Today was another 20 minute walk. I covered the distance of 1.24 miles in 20 minutes which included one hill. The legs are feeling better, hopefully only another few days and I'll feel as good as new.

The good news - the streak lives and is within three weeks of a full year!

1.24 miles
20 minutes
120 calories burned

Sounds like the restful walking is doing what it needs to do - and you'll be right back to the regular program quickly.

Cardio Streak Day 344
20 minute walk
1700hrs 78F

I'm still out in the country and I'm going to adhere to my boring cardio for the next several days. If you read the blog yesterday, you know that my legs are stiff (I admit I don't like stretching as much as I need) and I've decided in order to continue to the streak, I'm going to do a cardio walk for twenty minutes per day. I'll continue that for the next several days to a week until my legs quit being sore.

I haven't injured them, just over-used them I think. Some of you will argue that overuse "is" an injury and you may be right. However, walking only mildly bothers me so I'll continue that and try to up my stretching routine.

Today I waited till about 5pm and headed out. It's almost 80F but not objectionable. I saw a friend of mine down the street and he was cutting up a large tree with a chain saw. Ugghhhh... looks too much like work so we waved and I kept going. And besides, he had a helper so it's not like he was doing this alone! I'm sure I'll catch up with him later. And double-besides, I've got a reception to attend about 7pm so I've got to get dressed up (heck, I may even take a shower first, haha).

I'm fighting with computers this weekend so I'm not doing much on Spark. Maybe by the time I get back to civilization, I'll have these whipped into shape and running like olympic sprinters!

Today was:
1.22 miles
20 minutes
120 calories burned

Walking (only) to rest and recover a little

Cardio Streak Day 343
20 minute walk
0800hrs 60F

I left town yesterday afternoon and ate at one of my favorite BBQ joints on the way. Ahhh... good food, but I only ate half the beef and took the other half to have for lunch today.

My legs are stiff, sore, and I've decided that in order to continue to cardio streak and 'rest' the legs somewhat, I'm going to do walking-only for the next few (or several) days. I've been building up to this moment for the last couple of months but I'm not going to take an actual day off because I'm really close to the full year streak goal.

This morning I went around 0800hrs and twenty minutes later I was done. It feels so short but I've been keeping busy around this house so it's not like I'm vegging out or anything.

So I'm thinking my blogs will be somewhat boring for the next few days, but we'll see how it goes...

1.20 miles

120 calories burned

Sounds smart. Best way to keep the streak alive rather than overtrain to the point you can't even do the walking.

Good idea to take time to recover. I need to do that a little more myself. BBQ sounds good!

Jogging in sunlight (what a difference a day makes)

Cardio Streak Day 342
35 minute jog
1245hrs 70F

The sky is very nearly clear today; only very high wispy clouds that aren't obscuring the sun at all. When I went out for the jog, it was a beautiful, warm day.

What a difference twenty four hours makes! If you've read either of my last two blogs - one early this morning and one yesterday, go ahead and re-read the one from yesterday - I've added to it.

Today was scheduled for a 30 minute jog at a 12 min/mile pace. For grins, I got to the point yesterday where a feeling made me turn toward home instead of going up Cardiac Hill, and I went up Cardiac Hill today. Talk about damage! The asphalt on one street was "missing" ... I suppose the tornado scraped it clean!

Besides dodging debris and lots of lookey-loos today, the jog went without a hitch. I completed 3.00 miles in 35 minutes. With the warm up and cool down, the day was:
3.60 miles
45 minutes
480 calories burned

Tornado Update

Cardio Streak Day 342

It's 4am and we remain in the stone age with no cable or internet. However, it could have been much worse... One of the tornadoes touched down mere blocks from here and the place resembles a war zone. Nearby, one house was leveled to the ground. Although one of my cars got pretty trashed, the house and grounds look fairly pristine... Go figure!

I plan to run later and maybe I'll head for the sticks where I'll have internet!

So glad you were "spared" from the worst! I've been through hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards...Mother Nature can be fierce! I'm always amazed at the "resilience" of people as they begin the rebuilding process - it truly shows what we are made of!

And people wonder why earthquakes don't phase me. Compared to what a tornado (or hurricane) can do ....

I am so glad you and yours are safe and sound, albeit in the dark!
