Cardio Streak Day 296
48F
5K

It's been raining all day and I took about the only opportunity around 1000 for a break in the weather to go running. I did 5K today in 35 minutes.

I'm writing this on my phone... Everybody have a good weekend!

Into every life, a little rain must fall. Sometimes you end up running in the rain; this time, you lucked out.

Cardio Streak Day 295
1000 hrs 48F
2 Mile Jog

Today is a dreary day with a very fine mist falling, but I've got some errands to do this afternoon so I went ahead and started around 1000hrs. Once I got going, the mist stopped and the sun made an attempt at an appearance for the day.

I've walked / jogged / ran / or sprinted almost 1500 miles since I started this workout party a year ago, although the exact figure on SP is a little lower at about 1200. I figure by the time I stop many years from now, I will have logged almost a bazillion miles (or at least it may have felt like it by then).

Today was a scheduled two mile jog, which I did. 22 minutes and a couple of seconds in, the counter clicked over with the completion of the second mile. Eleven min/mile may be my 'home' for a while as far as speed goes.

Only five more days until I hit 300 days in a row on my cardio streak!!! Wish me luck.

Today's total workout was:
2.77 miles
35 minutes
388 calories burned

A colder 5K today

Cardio Streak Day 294
1200 hrs 48F
5K

What a change from yesterday when I was in shorts and a light weight tee shirt. Today I'm in sweat pants and a long sleeved turtle neck. Not only colder today, it was totally cloudy when I went out for the run today.

Today was a 5K which I completed in 35 minutes - that's 8:45 quicker than the first 5K I did back last June, and 2:00 quicker than 24Jan this year. So, no matter how much I whine, progress moves inexorably forward (thank goodness).

When I do the warm up and cool downs, I keep the walking pace quicker than 20 min/mile (3.0 mph) which seems to be the threshold to qualify for cardio. As such, I count both the warm up and cool down as cardio.

Today's workout total was:
3.91 miles
50 minutes
550 calories

Nice and warm today

Cardio Streak Day 293
1200 hrs 62F
2 Mile jog

It's warmer today with sunshine and nearly clear skies, although I did rain this morning with a couple of thunder-boomers rolling through the area. By noon, the rain had moved out and the roads were virtually dry. I was able to go out for the jog in shorts and a lightweight tee shirt!

Today was set up for a 2 mile jog. My goal was to hit about 10:30 per mile and I actually finished the jog at 21:45, or about 10:50 per mile.

Yesterday I was bemoaning the fact that I had pushed the envelope to far and too fast. I can tell that my legs are not quite ready for the speed I went over the weekend as they are still a little wobbly today.

Last week I had been doing about 11:30 per mile and I really only need to do about 11:00 per mile now. It'll get there and I've already proved I can do it, I just need to drop another 20 pounds or so and get my legs and cardio system a little stronger. But hey, I'm headed that way!

Today's complete workout was:
2.76 miles
35 minutes
388 calories burned

The 5K time shows improvement...

Cardio Streak Day 292
1230 hrs 52F
5K

It's a lot warmer today and the sun is out with only a few clouds in the sky. Today is a scheduled 5K workout.

After the warm up, I started right in to the workout. The 5K today was 35 minutes, an average of 11:25 per mile.

My time per mile has improved but I feel like I pushed it a little too much, a little too soon. Although I'm doing the time, it's uncomfortable. Oh, nothing hurts, there is no pain, it's just a feeling that I'm pushing too hard.

With the warm up and cool down, today's workout was:
3.75 miles
45 minutes
562 calories burned

As MOBYCARP said, you don't have to push that much every day.

Definitely listen to your body. There is some discomfort to pushing that we don't want to just surrender to and not progress. But there is equally as much the danger of injury if we push faster than parts of our body are ready for. (Tendons and ligaments take longer to strengthen up than muscles, so the big parts may feel fine and ready but pushing would strain those little parts.)

emoticon job, though!

Usually if I'm overtraining the body will crash pretty hard. Imagine feeling like you did today but your pace time decreased substantially and maybe you couldn't even finish. That's a sign of overdoing it.

On the flip side, I've never kicked myself for taking a rest day when I suspected some overtraining. Nothing wrong with a little break. The road or treadmill will still be there when you get back.

When you're improving your pace, sometimes it will feel like you're pushing things too much. That's OK, you don't have to push every day as hard as you did today. The time will come when you run at today's speed and don't feel like you were pushing it.

congrats! I have done two 5 K's. one last spring and one last summer. I did better on the first one at 47:40. the second one I was at 52:50 but that course was not flat. I am going to retrain myself at home and use it for workouts when it warms up
