I got back to town about 5pm and since it's Sunday, I went for a short walk about 1730. Not much else to report, I'll probably do a challenge video later...

A 5K Record Today (for me)

It was chilly today with the wind blowing about 20 mph at times. I'm out of town, so I'm really not sure if it was coming from the north or the south as it seemed to be coming from different directions at various times.

I did today's challenge video yesterday before I left town so I kinda slid on it today. I did make up for it, though, on the 5K by setting a new personal best.

I'm out in the country today and I only had to dodge one dog. It looked like a cross between a pit bull and a bulldog and he was marking his territory and barking at me as I neared him. I did the only wise thing I could do which was to turn around and go around the block. I left him to his kingdom and thankfully he didn't push the issue.

Today I did a 5K and did it in record time, 35:20. That's about eight minutes faster than the first time I did a 5K back in June. Woo hoo!

I'm not getting a lot of points today 'cause I'm doing other stuff and just got back from a movie { Katherine Heigl } and yes, I had movie popcorn. I've been pretty good the last few months on my diet and instead of lunch, I had buttered popcorn. There, that's my confession for the day! Once in a while probably won't kill ya, right???

With the warm up and cool down (the warm up was in the 14 min/mile range but I walked pretty slowly after hotfooting it on the 5K), today was:
3.75 miles
45 minutes

    Way to go with the time on the 5k! One time eating buttered popcorn won't kill you. I believe the point is balance in our lives, and a treat every once in a while seems like a balanced thing to do.

It was chilly overnight, down in the high 30s but I'm ready for spring to arrive. As I write this shortly after lunch, the temp has gone up into the 60s already. You just gotta love Texas!

I woke this morning, had breakfast, did a couple of challenge videos, then waited for the temp to warm enough for me.

Around 1000hrs, I made a go of it. The wind was blowing 20mph, gusting to 30mph, and is only supposed to increase this afternoon. However, the temp was up to 48F when I started so after I got going, it wasn't too bad. Those of you who are regular readers know that a couple of months ago I was whining when the temp was in the 50s... I guess we really CAN get used to temperature change, although some of us take a little longer.

Today is a two mile jogging day and I made it through without any troubles. Sometimes I get the feeling that I want to stop and walk a little, but a mental check-down at the time tells me that it's all mental, not physical... so I keep going. However, the deep breathing I'm doing (along with the challenge videos and other calesthenics, is giving me some definition in my gut. It's been a long time, years actually, but I'm starting to be able to detect the presence of abs. Hallelujah!

The two miles took 23:12 today. With warm up and cool down, the total was:
2.76 miles
35 minutes

    We had heavy snow for a good portion of the day. Made the sidewalks really slippery. It's cool that you can convince yourself to keep going.

Sunshine again after record rainfall yesterday

Yesterday saw a record 24 hour rainfall in DFW and today we had sunshine. Although the temp was a balmy 52F, the north wind was blowing at 15 to 20mph which made it a little on the chilly side.

Oh well, I'm on a roll so I put it off as long as possible then headed out. I had already done the challenge video this morning so the last thing on my fitness dance card for the day was the 5K.

Today's time was 37 minutes. As some of you know, I chart my times and I have a half mile chart, 10 minute chart, one mile chart, two mile chart, and 5K chart. The minutes per mile were:
10.97 min/mile @ half mile
11.36 min/mile @ 10 minutes
11.37 min/mile @ one mile
11.63 min/mile @ two miles
11.98 min/mile @ 5K

Those are not seconds, they're hundredths of a minute, by the way.

I'm not sure what I can do with those, but it's interesting to see how I get slower as I go farther.

With warm up and cool down, today's total workout was:
3.91 miles
52 minutes

Running between the floods...

2 Mile Jog

Yesterday afternoon, the skies opened and a deluge of water poured down from above. Mother Nature's light show continued with it for most of the night and the rain finally stopped around 1000hrs this morning. I believe we had somewhere in the neighborhood of four inches of rain, and Lord knows we needed it after the summer drought.

With a possibility of more T-storms this afternoon, I decided to go for the jog around noon, even though the streets were still wet. The temp was a chilly 48F when I started and the wind was out of the north at 15 to 20mph. However, once I got going, the temp seemed fine.

No others were out today and I was the sole possessor of the sidewalks, and some of the streets, and all I had to dodge were puddles. I couldn't miss them all, and I just hate that feeling when the water seeps in around the mesh in the shoes and soaks the socks!

Two miles today took 24 minutes. Now that I've cooled off and had another bottle of no-name water, I'm going to go soak in the hot tub. Ahhhh....

Today's workout, with warm up and cool down, was:
2.91 miles
40 minutes

    48 is good running weather, practically shorts and tee shirt. I do recommend good wool socks designed for running if you're going to have puddles along the way. Socks with any cotton in them would be awful after stepping in a puddle.
