Cardio Streak Day 246
1200 hrs – 20 minute jog
It's sunny and over 60F again today. I'm thrilled, to say the least. Just remember, it won't last and we'll take it in the shorts, probably very soon. Remember the Super Bowl last year and the ice storm we had... Mother Nature has a way of sneaking up on us.
Today was scheduled for a 20 minute jog. I had thought about increasing it but decided to do two workouts: the 20 minute jog and a 10 minute jog.
The two were broken up by a five minute cool down walk. Added together, the two workouts today were 2.66 miles in 30 minutes which is faster than normal. However, I thought I was going to die because I upped the speed at the end of the twenty minute jog and started out faster on the ten minute job. I don't know if I'll be doing that again!
With the warm ups, cool downs, and two workouts today, the today was:
517 calories burned

Cardio Streak Day 245
1100 hrs – 5K Jog
Yes, that's right. It was 62F at 1100hrs this morning when I started. The temp was up to about 66F when I began writing today's blog. Whew, heat wave! I went jogging in a tee shirt today instead of sweats (well, I had shorts on, too).
Yesterday was a hard day on my legs. They were barking all the way and today they're much better. Oh, they still feel a little like I've had a good burn with them (Lord knows I have) but they weren't outright rebelling at me today.
With the sun out on this nice day, I started the workout, fully expecting to last the entire 5K. I did walk a little around the 2.50 mile mark but only for a minute or so, then it was back to the jogging effort.
At the forty minute mark, I had completed 3.12 miles and that was enough. After the cool down, it made it back to the house and enjoyed a bottle of no-name water and 1 tbsp of creamy peanut butter. Ah, the pause that refreshes!
Today's total workout was:
609 calories burned

Cardio Streak Day 244
1130 hrs – 45 Minute Jog
Today is warmer than yesterday and is supposed to hit in the 60s today. In fact, as I write this, the temp has gone up to 61F and I'm about to go outside in short sleeves for the hike down to the street to get the mail!
When I went outside today for the workout, it was a little over 50F which is still okay. My legs were barking the whole time as I did the warm up but afterward, I went right into the jog anyway. Turns out, this would have been a good day to rest the legs except for this thing about a streak. As I push on toward a year in this streak, I may have to revisit the whole concept. I can't imagine that I'll go any longer than a year, at least based on my feeling today. We'll see.
Today had been scheduled for an easy twenty minute jog but I thought I'd push it to a four mile jog which takes me closer to an hour than the scheduled twenty minutes. At about the 2.5 mile mark, I thought of giving up. In fact, I started walking up Cardiac Hill and only started jogging again after the crest when I was on the way back down.
Tomorrow I'm shooting for another 500 calorie burn, but it may turn out to be an easy jog or maybe even a walk day.
For today, the total was:
533 calories burned

Cardio Streak Day 243
1130 hrs – 45 Minute Jog
Today had been scheduled for a 5K jog, however I'm going to modify my Tu-Th-Sat workouts to a 45 or 50 minute jog instead of the 5K. The reason is so I can get a little more mileage and therefore a larger burn. I've decided that I need to burn at least 500 calories every day which should net out to a pound a week loss.
I wore the sweats today because there was a steady breeze out of the north. It wasn't necessarily cold, just aggravating. After the warm up walk, I punched the jogging info into my phone and started the workout.
Once I got going, it was really pretty pleasant and I finally realized that I should have worn shorts and a short sleeved shirt. Because of the Christmas break, a lot of kids were out today and most were in shorts and tee shirts.
One good thing today - three kids waved at me as I jogged past their houses. Well, it's Texas and everybody is friendly, but they seemed more friendly than usual. I must have had a sign around my neck or perhaps tattooed to my forehead because even a blonde with a pony tail waved at me. Interesting...
So the workout was good, people were friendly, the weather wasn't all that bad, and I got my 500 calorie burn today. Now if somebody out there in DFW is hiring, please get with me. The job search begins this week. I've been "retired" for several months now and it's time to replenish the savings accounts. Anybody got anything???
With warm up and cool down, today's workout was:
524 calories burned

Cardio Streak Day 242
1130 hrs – Elliptical
...and some good news! I took measurements today and my waist measurement has gone BELOW 40 inches for the first time in so long, I can't remember the last time it was that low. My waist was 32 inches for a long time (lots of years) but when it started going up, it was like I was buying new pants every few months.
I've been at the country estate long enough and it's time to go back later this afternoon. However, I've got time for one more good elliptical workout which is not outside in the cold, rainy weather. So, armed with a bottle of no-name water and a Top Gear marathon on BBC America, I began the workout.
I was aiming for at least a 500 calorie burn today but when I hit that mark, I was still going strong. I figured that I would want to wimp out a little since I'd done pretty good elliptical workouts the past couple of days, but I kept going. My breathing was fine (I wish it was this controlled when I'm jogging) and the full-speed ceiling fan came in very handy today, although it sure didn't stop the perspiration!
The entire workout, except for the first couple of minutes, was completed with the intensity meter in the "endurance" zone which is above the "aerobic" zone. It was a pretty good workout and I enjoyed catching up on Top Gear!
After 70 minutes today, including a five minute cool down at a slower speed, I had burned over 1,000 calories again. At this point, I believe I need to make a commitment to aim for a specific calorie burn / calorie deficit each day to get me back on the weight loss train. I'll keep you posted here...
For today, the total was:
1065 calories burned
