Cardio Streak Day 216
1830 hrs – Jogging
The temperature was warmer this morning and fell throughout the day. Luckily it didn't fall that far but when it was time to go for the workout, it was about 52F. I dressed in shorts and a long sleeve light sweat shirt. It was beginning to get foggy but not really bad.
Today was originally scheduled for running intervals but I'm pretty sore and somewhat tired today so I decided to do only a couple of miles on a slow jog. After the warm up, I started.
The first minute was one of those where I thought seriously about stopping. However, I kept going. Past the first minute, the bod felt a little better, although the entire workout was somewhat labored.
I finished 2.02 miles today in 26 minutes. Now I'm even more tired and just a bit sore. I'm hoping tomorrow will be an easy day until I decide to put my bod through day 217.
For today, the total workout was:
323 calories burned

Cardio Streak Day 215
1745 hrs – 5K Jog
It is relatively warm today, even though the last several hours have been overcast. I think Mother Nature is gearing up to kick us where it hurts.
Tonight is a 5K jog and I was looking forward to another non-stop 5K day. I should have stopped, I'm sooooo tired now that it's over. Oh yeah, I knew it was harder than the last time and I knew I was going to pay for it somehow. We'll see how I feel tomorrow but for now my legs are pretty wasted.
For tonight, I did the 5K in 40 minutes.
So Bubba was out tonight and I yep, I was jogging down his sidewalk. His truck was not in the way and he was standing around in the driveway. I waved as I passed by and I heard him say, "Sorry about last night." Hey, it's the Texas way, and I thanked him and continued on my way.
The run tonight was uneventful except for the fact that I was so tired, I was tempted to stop... but I didn't.
With the warm up and cool down, tonight was:
442 calories burned

Cardio Streak Day 214
1800 hrs – Running Intervals
It is a little chilly with the north breeze blowing. Funny, in the spring and summer we call it a breeze, but in the winter we usually refer to it as a gale force wind.
Be that as it may, today is scheduled for running intervals, generally one minute running followed by one minute walking for the first twenty minutes, then thirty seconds running followed by ninety seconds walking.
With the successful 5K jog last night, I noted the time as I hit the 5K mark tonight. Last night's jog was done in quicker time and it's directly a result of the walking intervals. Although I run twice as fast as the jog when I do the M-W-F intervals, I walk probably half as fast on the times between the intervals.
Tonight I was running on a sidewalk along a busy collector street, trying to stay out of the way of traffic. Some jerk in a pickup truck backed up right in front of me, blocking the sidewalk. Obviously he was looking at traffic coming from the other direction and didn't expect to have anybody running on the sidewalk, in the dark, coming from the opposite direction.
I loudly voiced my displeasure with him along with a question about his heritage. Of course, he was about 300 pounds of bubba, but he took it like a whimp. It's probably a good thing and by the way, don't try that at home!!! I got away with this one, maybe he just didn't want to chase me; he couldn't have caught me and that's a good thing. The rest of the workout was uneventful, thank goodness.
I decided I was finished at 55 minutes because I had stuff to do and I was getting hungry. My distance on the intervals was 4.11 miles. With the warm up and cool down walks, tonight was:
523 calories burned

Cardio Streak Day 213
1800 hrs – 5k Jog
It was nasty cold this morning so I waited until about sundown to do the workout today. This may be my new time; in the summer I had to go around 0430 or so because of the heat that begins right after sunrise in this part of the country and now I need to wait until later in the afternoon to avoid the morning cold.
You may have heard me say that we have two seasons here with not much in between. That's more of a joke than reality, but it seems that way at times.
I've been looking forward to this workout all day long. Last night I did a continuous two mile jog with no stops/no walking and I've been planning on doing today's scheduled 5K the same way - no walking at all! Yes, I've been excited about it.
I began today as I normally do, with a five minute warm up. Since the sun was already going down, I put on a long sleeve light sweat shirt to keep my chest and arms warm. After the warm up, I began the jog.
Success! I did the entire 5K jog with no stops, no walking, and no weaseling out!! I could feel the burn in my thighs and a little bit in my calves and I'm stoked. Granted, the time sucks but I feel like telling the world I did it.
Oh wait, I AM telling the world that I did it.
The time for my non-stop 5K was 40:30. With warm up and cool down, the total workout today was:
442 calories burned

Cardio Streak Day 212
1800 hrs – Two Mile Jog
I slept in just a bit this morning having fully intended to wake around 0445 but the alarm was set for 0530. So at 0530 I woke and had breakfast and stuck my nose outside. Whoaaa, it was cold, a very unpleasant 38F. Heck, it was only a few weeks ago that the temp hit over 100F for the last time this year and now it's frost weather. Brrr...
I waited till this afternoon to do the workout. Monday is normally scheduled for an hour of running intervals but since I got a late start this evening, I elected to change the workout a little and do a two mile jog.
When I headed out the door wearing a tee shirt and shorts, I thought I had made a really big mistake. There wasn't any wind, but it felt pretty darn chilly. Rather than go back inside and put on sweats, I forged ahead.
After the warm up walk, I started the jog and I was intent on a continuous jog with no walking intervals. Twenty five minutes later, I had fulfilled the commitment and made a full two miles with continuous jogging. Yeah, my calves were barking a little but hey, it kept me warm!
The two mile non-stop jog is a small milestone for me. It felt good, actually, and maybe I'm feeling a little bit smug about it. Progress comes in small steps and this is one of those.
The total workout tonight, with walking warm up and cool down was:
280 calories burned
