Spark People Day 158
Cardio Streak Day 156
Last day for country living! I don't like to run out here because of the roads (and the sidewalks are a lot worse!), but today was for intervals and I sucked it up and ran. After the obligatory five minute warm up, I began the workout:
1 min run / 2 min walk for 30 minutes; then
30 sec run / 90 sec walk until I quit.
Today I ran down past the Sheriff's office and fire station, running in the street. The sidewalks, when there actually were sidewalks, were like roller coasters so I opted for the streets instead, as a safety issue.
4.52 miles later I was back at the house and pretty tired, but it was a good workout. With warm up and cool down, today was:

Spark People Day 157
Cardio Streak Day 155
I'm still out of town and enjoying the life out in the country, writing this on a laptop, haha. I did get to sleep later this morning and woke about 0830. Geez, I haven't done that in a while, but it felt really good.
Yesterday was Football Saturday and regular readers of this blog know that I follow four NCAA teams. Two because I have degrees at those institutions, one because it's a home town team that is nationally ranked, and one Military Academy because one of my sons is in that branch of the service.
Of the four, the two I did not attend both lost heart breakers in overtime. The first truly was a game of inches on a blocked extra point. The other was a game of inches because they couldn't convert on a 4th down.
Of the other two that won, one was a blowout and the other was a very respectable win. Today we'll get to see if America's Team can beat the Motor City team, AKA the Detroit Lions.
The real reason for the title of today's blog is not for sports, but for body measurements. I've been looking at the scale since February and thank goodness it keeps going down but I never entered body measurements until about June. I measured yesterday and have dropped six inches in my waist measurement since that first tale-of-the-tape back in June.
I'm aware that there is probably an 'official' list of measurements because I hear a lot of references to "I lost 14 inches" ... but it beats me what the 'official' measurements reference.
I usually measure hips, waist, neck, arms, legs... stuff like that. All are smaller than when I started. But like the title, it IS a game of inches. Believe me, the scale stops at a lot of plateaus for me as it has for the last ten days or so. I'm doing thirty miles a week or so and restricting calories, but the scale has this nasty habit of stopping and laughing at me.
However, if the inches don't stop, it allows me to laugh at the scale! HAHA scale, take that, damn scale... six inches in my waist in three months! HAHA
I did continue my easy walking plans for the weekend. Today I did 3.00 miles in 57 minutes, just fast enough to fall in under the 20 min/mile cardio classification, but easy enough that my legs were not put under stress.
Now I'm drinking a bottle of no-name water and enjoying a LARGE cup of country coffee... with NO sugar, a first for me. After a nice shower and eggs and turkey bacon, I'll read the paper and get ready to watch America's Team try to survive against the Motor City team.

Cardio Streak Day 153
You've got to be kidding me! Yesterday, the official temperature for DFW was 101F... can you believe it??!! The one good thing is that we had T-storms last night which brought the temps down and gave my lawn a much deserved drink. This morning the temp was pleasant but the wind was brutal from the north.
I got an early start today for the running intervals:
1 min run / 2 min walk for 30 minutes;
45 sec run / 75 sec walk for 15 minutes;
30 sec run / 90 sec walk until done.
I got to 5.10 miles at the 75 minute mark this morning and called it. I've got some errands to do today and need to get going.
With warm up and cool down today was:

Cardio Streak Day 152
The morning routine is starting to spill over into other areas of my life. Back when I had a nice desk job, I got up as early, showered, drove 30+ miles to an office, and started drinking coffee. Now I get up early and actually eat breakfast and then exercise! This morning, however, was a little different.
I got up this morning, looked out into the dark gloomy night, and decided to make a drive to the market. It's way too crowded in the afternoons and by the way, have I mentioned that I don't like crowds??!! I shared the hated shopping experience with only about three customers and finished while it was still dark outside.
I came back home, put the stuff in the fridge, changed clothes, and headed outside. The morning sky was just beginning to show some of the dawn's early light.
During my warm up walk, I noticed that my legs are really feeling like they've had a workout lately. I'm not talking 'sore' but more like they're tired from doing extra work. I believe it's because I've been asking them to go faster the last several days... who-would'a-thought-it just seven months ago!?
Sometimes that seven months feels like an eternity. Sometimes it feels like only a couple of days. The important thing is Consistency: do it when you don't want to; do it when your legs are sore; do it every day and don't quit!
For today's workout, I have scheduled slow jogging mixed with walking when necessary. Through experimentation, I'm doing 0.25 mile jog followed by a one minute walk, then repeat.
Yep, the legs are sore, especially the quads. I'm going to do running intervals tomorrow but on Saturday and Sunday, I plan to do long leisure walks. I'm betting that the walks will allow my legs to build back from the workouts of the last few days.
So, if I don't walk on Sat/Sun, somebody KICK ME!
Happy Birthday to my two youngest sons this month!! Woo Hoo.
The jogging workout today was 5.00 miles. With warm up and cool down, today's workout was:
