An Inch of Water on the Floor

Wednesday, September 28, 2011

1/31/93 - Fortunately dumped the holding tank late last night. Woke at 2/30 with about 1 inch of water on the floor. The BW did a quick flush about 1:00 and some paper wedged the toilet ball open so the water stayed ON! After filling the tank, pipe, and bowl, the water started running onto the floor. We had the place dried out by 3:30 and went back to bed. Missed church as we were washing rugs, towels, and blankets.

Called Annie at noon, and got a big reaction from the BW when I mentioned that she had told people why I was at a Yoga class. In the afternoon we went to Penny’s where she got a lip pencil, had lunch, and then to Wards where I finally bought a pair of Etonic walking shoes. Then we went to the beach – and along the beach to the big 60 pier. We watched the pelicans, the fishermen, and the sunset, and we got cold. Still haven’t gone fishing.

OH NO! What a mess that water must have been. By the way, what does BW stand for? I have been wondering about that for a long time. I know it's your wife (that's the W), but I'm worried about whatever the B stands for, cause I can only think of one word that men most often associate with their wives, and it's NOT GOOD!! But you make me smile anyway! emoticon

Much Better TV Reception

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

1/30/93 – Went out on the city bike path Thursday – followed it until it ended, then came back. Went again in the afternoon, but was turned back near the end by the police. Turned out it was the body of the guy who shot 5 supervisors (killed 3 for sure) then committed suicide. Friday morning we got up at 4 and 5:30 – the BW crying because she didn’t have any space. I moved my mattress up front, put back cushions back there, and separated the trailer into two rooms for sleeping and two rooms for visiting. Then we cleaned all day. Cheered her up to get the place in better order. Also – the BW bought a toaster and juicer at a garage sale next door. There is something to be said for living in a mobile home park.

Today we went all the way to the end of the trail and back. We met a guy who gave us grapefruit (two grocery bags full) for the picking. Then we went to camping world and bought a stove cover. I start a gallon of water in back at night, close two folding doors, open the bathroom door, and hope for the best. The BW took drugs last night so she said it wasn’t a fair test.

Yoga Thursday at 7:00 – skip ACIM Monday to listen to TV. Also – I rewired the outlet and got a bunch of 300 ohm twin-lead and a connector so we can use the outside antenna. That way, we get eleven good channels, two poor, and one terrible channel. Much better than a monopole.

It's a good day when you can get grapefruit just for the effort of picking them.

Some Exploring, Some Settling In

Monday, September 26, 2011

1/27/1993 - We went to camping World and the University of Southern Florida yesterday. I ran around by myself for a couple of hours in the morning, then went to see Frank by myself from 7:30 to 11 in the evening. We watched a movie on TV – channel 13 here – “Next 48 Hours”, which was pretty good.

The BW is worried about fixing her bike, and we bought lots of “stuff” to hang up. I put up six more towel racks and have a few left – lost 16 cup hooks, and have just generally been working on making the place livable. We bought a water purifier from Sears on Sunday and now have an automatic still. We still need some white vinegar, however, to clean the tank.

We just bought a distiller . I assume that that is what you are talking about. It's amazing how much stuff is removed.

Made it to Clearwater.

Sunday, September 25, 2011

I did my laundry yesterday and made a big pot of soup again today - the same sort as last time except black beans, half of a large cabbage instead of a bunch of celery, and no mushrooms. That way the BW can eat the stuff because there's nothing that she's allergic to in the pot. I have been walking the dogs, leaving around six when it's till dark and getting back around seven, before the sun comes up, if it does come up, but I took today off. I was going to mow the grass but it was wet, and a little later when I ran over to Sweetbay to get some milk and chips for the BW, the thunderstorm caught me. Fortunately I had a Tilly hat in the back seat, so after sitting in the parking lot for awhile I gave up and went into the store. the had saved my hearing aids, but my feet got soaking wet.

1/24/93 Sunday – Stayed in Chiefland at a Good Sam park on the 20th where the big attraction was someone’s golf card which a plywood body painted in zebra stripes to look like the Flintstone’s car. There were people there living full time in old, tiny travel trailers up on cement blocks. We got here (Clearwater) on the 21st, and check into Alcove Park which Frank found for us. It’s really a mobile home park but they have a few RV parking spots with full hookups next to a creek. I paid for a month’s stay, so we should have plenty of time to visit Frank and see the wonders of Pinellas County.

I dumped the holding tank last Tuesday and again just now. We visited with Frank (my younger brother) Thursday, Friday, and Saturday – and went to church with him this morning.

Whoops! I totally missed the journal date in your post. The recommendation to check out Fort DeSoto Park is still a good one. But, I guess you'll have to do some time travel magic to go there it back then.

While you are in Pinellas County, be sure to visit Fort De Soto Park if you can. It's a beautiful place and you get a fabulous view of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Lots of history here. Lots of different kinds of palm trees. They also are known for beautiful camping sites in that part of the park.

"Fort De Soto:
238-site family camping area with facilities including picnic tables, grills, water, electricity, washers, dryers, sanitary disposal stations, modern restrooms, showers, play areas, and a camp store. Special camp sites for camping with pets.

Fort De Soto Park does not reserve 100 percent of its sites. A number of sites are available for walk up customers only. These sites cannot be reserved in advance and must be paid for the day you arrive."

Enjoy the journey!

Tomorrow We Venture into the Unknown

Saturday, September 24, 2011

1/19/93 Tuesday – Up at 6:30 today (BW already up) and had coffee before my shower and shave. I spent $147.59 today, which leaves me with $744.44 in my pockets. I have been spending about $85 on “fixing the trailer” every day. Today it was $94.42 in the K-Mart (but $25 was for shoes) and $33.16 at Ace Hardware for the makings of a 30 amp extension cord. I used 25 feet of “12-3 because they didn’t have 10-3. After I made up the cord, I pried out the board put together by Mr. Gray and/or Ted Keilich. Now I’m running the refrigerator on electric and the lights still don’t dim when we run the microwave. I forgot to mail a letter to Gogola today – can’t remember what I said, either. Maybe the BW will.

Tomorrow we venture into the unknown – no reservations and no place to stay. We’ll see how stopping early works. We will either go about 55 miles or 110 – fee $2 (at a membership campground) or $20. That’s the plan.

I didn't know you were so handy with electrical challenges. Good to know these things. Have a fun adventure!! If you run into Tom Sawyer, tell him to paint his own fence 'cause you've got better things to do. Take care.
