Nothing Much

Sunday, August 14, 2011

I cut the grass and did my laundry today, then make a batch of fat free bran muffins. I also read Nathan Pritikin's original book again and Roy M. Wolford's book too. I don't know what to do different, but I think I'm going back to no fat again, and maybe try to start running. I still have two original knees, but both have given me trouble at one time or another.

I also think I'll make an appointment with my internist to maybe get some useful coaching before I screw up.

You might try using an elliptical. It's more vigorous than walking, but easier on the joints than running.

Sounds like another busy day. I think your walking is just as good for you as running if not better.

I like the statement that you still have two original knees. Good for you. Once upon a time people shopped for spare parts for automobiles and appliances. Now we're doing it for humans. Seems as if you're doing your best to keep what you have. Congratulations and best wishes.

Progress - And Time To Relax

Friday, August 12, 2011

I don't know whether I passed or flunked the angiogram test, but the artery is completely blocked, which is different from the results from one ultrasound and three sequential CAT scans with contrast. I guess Dr. Barry (the surgeon) has a better eye than the radiologist, who claimed 99 per cent. Since the angiogram is the "gold standard" test, I don't have to worry about the surgery. One interesting thing was that the angiogram doctor said the probability of a stroke was "less than two percent" and Dr. Barry said the probability of a stroke from the surgery was "about one percent." The medical profession uses different measures in different areas, or the doctors all just make up their own jargon. Anyhow, I didn't have a stroke.

I also called my dermatologist's office yesterday and told them that if they didn't have a substitute after two weeks I was going to a different dermatologist on my own. While I was on the phone I was given a number to call and told that the new guy was taking Altman's patients. That was different from the promise that they were going to schedule me with another doctor, and I think that's the third time that something fell through the cracks when I got no response when I expected one. You do need to call them if they don't call you in a reasonable amount of time.

I guess that is one thing I like about my doctors office. They have always been good about getting me in to see any doctor they deam nessesary. My biggest complaint is the waiting. I've waited up to 2 hours to see my doctor before!

As much as I have been on the phone talking to various providers and insurance carriers, I'm feeling like, if they didn't call me back I'd just let it go. But that's not very good advise, now, is it?

Boyle Back Yard

Sunday, August 07, 2011

I just had a blog all finished, spell checked etc. Posted it, and it said "done” for a long time but nothing happened. I’m writing this on Word, and will copy and paste just in case from now on.

Boyle’s Back Yard is just across the street for the ex Billy K’s, which closed last Friday because the owner raised the rent dramatically on the third business which had been there – which explains why the character keeps changing. The owner plans to open his own business there, and everyone plans to boycott the place from now on. You have the pizza place and Boyle's both selling beer on two other corners, and various bar foods at Boyle’s.

Boyle had agreed to let us have the Inaugural Cornhole Classic there (a double elimination corn toss tournament for 64 teams) in September, so the Kiwanians have to patronize it some. Our hope is that the tournament will be a successful, growing event, either once or twice a year. If it’s annual, Tom hopes to make it a qualifying event for the national champion event.

PS - I just found out the apparently the apostrophe in the title (Boyle's) is what keeps the thing from posting. I lost the first one, but held on to the Word version until I could see it posted.

Third times the charm. Spark does strange things sometimes. But I have learned and most times have my blog on word in case I lose it.
We almost stopped at Boyle's on friday for lunch but it looked like all outside seating. It looked like it might be a good lunch place. We went up the corner to Magnolia Grill.

Boyle's Back Yard

Sunday, August 07, 2011

For any locals, Boyle's Back Yard it at 11th and Nebraska. The place across the street (Billy Kay's) closed last Friday because the owner raised the rent on the third tenant, which sort of explains why the business and character kept changing. The owner wants to open his own business there, and everyone claims to be planning to boycott it the next time.

Boyle's used to be a mexican joint, but disappeared for some reason. They have standard prices, TV's, and a lot of noise. It's also an outside joint (at least the part we were in) including the bar, and has a roof so you have shade and a breeze. If they would turn the TV's off (or the sound off) it would be a fine place.

Boyle has given us permission to have the Inaugural NoPiKi Cornhole Classic (a corn toss tournament for 64 teams) there in September, so the Kiwanians have to patronize the place a little.
