Bill's Book

Brewmaster Bill sent me an e-mail recommending a book, "Body by Science." I read the e-mail on Wednesday. Then I ordered the book from Amazon.com at 4:00PM Wednesday. On Thursday I got an e-mail from Amazon.com, which had been sent at 5:25AM, which said the book would show up Friday, which I though was pretty good. The mail person delivered the book at about 11AM Thursday. This was a one day response for standard shipping, but it came from Amazon directly.

I read the book yesterday and was impressed, so today I went back to the Y and signed up again. Then I found the five machines that suppport the five core exercises and set up the weights and dimensions on the new ones. Two of the five had been part of the three I was assigned last year in my orientation, so I just worked out the starting weights for them by doing one set. The weights are a lot more than the trainer recommended. I'll find out how it works Monday.

I was suprised today to come home and find the BW reading the book, and she said it was a good book too.

    Yeah, what BB said. Glad you liked the book, and anything that inspires people to work toward a more efficient, more intense training style is a good thing!

    I am humbled. First to get a mention, but second, you two can read books far faster than I can. LOL. I'm not sure if it's because of my short attention span or somewhat pedantic nature. (the two seem to be counterproductive to one another).

Either way, glad you two enjoyed and more importantly got something out of it. So far, I've been most impressed with the fat loss chapter. Oddly enough, it made me realize that I need to gain some weight (in the form of muscle, of course). I also realized that cardio is largely optional when intense weight training is performed (which confirms my recent observations). Also, it has confirmed what my body has been telling me about workout frequency. My recovery, and subsequent progress, seems to be notably better when I scaled back strength training to 2 days a week. I'm still not sure I can cut back to 1 day a week as suggested by the book since I've developed a real love for lifting.

Once you get started in the routine, I hope you will post your numbers or at least email them to me. I really enjoy seeing people progress.

    I have been daunted by the sheer number of machines at the gym and by the supposition that I should use all of them. I just cringe at the notion of setting them and wiping them down both before and after use. Five machines sounds doable. Maybe I'll have to check out this book and see if I can work out some sort of reasonable program.
