I originally started to blog to help keep me on track with my exercise. However four weeks ago, my husband and I left on vacation to visit family in Calgary and later in Ohio. We ended up travelling 7300 km over a period of three weeks (plus a day). We spent a total of nine days travelling which of course involved eating out. The rest of the time we were visiting our daughter and later my brother-in-law and family. I knew that would be a challenge and my goal was to try to not gain any weight.
We arrived home this past Monday evening but due to the Canada Day holiday and another day trip to take our nephew to stay with his grandmother (plus fatigue from travelling!) I have only gotten back to Spark today. I went to weigh myself when we got back but discovered that I needed to replace the batteries in the scale. Imagine my surprise when I finally got on the scale this morning and discovered that not only did I not gain weight but I was actually down by almost 2 pounds! Bonus!
In spite of often not having much control over what I was served, spending hours in the car travelling, no regular exercise, and often not getting in all my water, I still managed a small loss. While travelling, we usually have a quick snack first thing in the morning so that we can get on the road and then stop later for a late breakfast or sometimes lunch. My favourite breakfast is an omelette usually served with hash browns but I found most often I could choose fruit instead and if that wasn't an option, I just asked for my meal without them. Supper (or lunch sometimes) was usually easier when I generally chose chicken or fish, skipped fries in favour of a baked potato and of course always had a salad or veggies. Meals served by relatives usually offer little to no choice, and I couldn't turn down a glass or two of wine from my sister-in-law but somehow I managed to avoid gaining a pound.
Last year when we travelled I know I gained weight because I indulged much more. I still had a great vacation this year and feel much further ahead in reaching my goals in spite of being "off track" for the past four weeks. Now to get back down to business!
