Use It Or Lose It!

Saturday, October 09, 2010

That's a very familiar saying, but lately it has really hit home! emoticon
When I was released to "whatever normal activities I feel like," I bought the WiiFit Plus and got busy! The first day, I logged 2 hours on the piggy, trying many of the exercises and discovering favorites. Because I had had surgery so recently, I held off on most of the Yoga emoticonmand Strength Training, opting for Aerobics emoticonand Balance until I felt confident that I wouldn't harm my incision areas (and, truth be told, majoring in those two areas even after I knew I was fine!) Did great for about 4 or 5 months...lost lots of inches and between 25 and 30 pounds...My piggy changed color several times, and is GOLD. On top of the 20 pounds I had lost before surgery, I was down 45 or 50 pounds! emoticonWithin 6 weeks of my 65th birthday, WiiFit was consistently pegging my age mostly in the 20s and 30s.

Then, STRESS happened. emoticonLife can be stressful, and life's stresses can be bad for you if you don't handle them properly. Which I didn't! I slacked off logging food. I tapered off exercising. I became a couch potato... I regained 10 or so pounds.

As I passed the surgery anniversary, we were preparing for a trip to FL emoticonto visit various family members. Not the best time to "start over," I procrastinated. We had a wonderful trip and returned the end of September. Very slowly, I have been crawling emoticonback toward being on track. BUT, out of the last several WiiFit weigh-ins, two placed me in the 40's (not too terrible) and one placed me at 37, another at 72, and another at 75! Proof that lounging around has not been good for me! (As if I needed proof! I don't FEEL as perky as I did for a while either.)

So, starting today, I'm making a minimum of 30 WiiFit minutes a high priority in my days! Don't know how long it will take to regain what I have lost, but it's worth the effort to get back there and continue my journey toward a healthier me! I have created a new working Mii, starting over with a white piggy. emoticonGold piggy, here I come!

I'm Wimpy—But It's a Pretty Good Start!

Spent 15 minutes trimming one of the bushes by the front porch this morning. Whew! emoticonWho knew I was so far out of shape—again! I only did the part that I could reach from the porch without major stretching, but still my major muscles are telling me that I should use them that way more often! emoticonIt was a nice workout...hasn't gotten TOO warm yet, humidity is low, and I spent 15 minutes in the fresh air emoticonsomething I don't do enough of! Maybe I can go back later and finish that bush...or I'll get it tomorrow. BABY STEPS!

I'm Back!

Wednesday, October 06, 2010

I think we've got my computer set up now emoticonGuess it's time to get serious. In the morning I will do a "Start-Over" weigh-in and stretch the tape measure over the areas that haven't been exercised very much recently. I will start logging food, remembering to drink ALL my water, and GET MOVING...a body in motion burns calories so much more efficiently than a body at rest! So...I'm BACK!

Blessings to all!

Pat
