Change of pace

Wednesday, June 22, 2011

So I decided to stop my curves membership. We've been trying to cut back on everything and it's an extra $35 every month. However, I have not stopped moving....I am walking to work or part of the way 3 times a week or more. I am keeping track of my miles and hope to see some improvement. I liked curves, but was time for a change. On days that I am short on time or energy :) I park my car halfway and walk the rest. It's 2.4 miles one way or 1.4 if I park halfway at a shopping center (yes, we do have shopping centers in Eureka). So, it's either 4.8 miles or 2.8. I am also hoping to save a little bit of gas money. Every little bit helps. I figure I can walk during these months until the weather changes (rainy) and then I might go back to curves or ??? I also have some 5 lb. weights that I lift before I go to bed. It's not much, but it's a start! I've been at a standstill for awhile now and hope to get going again.

Ok. Today is Sept. 2 and I've completed 198 miles. Yea! I am still not seeing many changes (only lost 3 lbs) but I feel better but still get winded going up the big hill to the college. Of course, my husband is taller and I am taking 2 steps to his one. :) Hopefully, I can shed some of this weight and I won't have to lug it up the hill. Just think, if you had to carry a bag with 100 extra pounds --- most of us couldn't do it but that is exactly what I am carrying extra up the hill. I guess we are stronger than we think or else we couldn't do it at all. Well, maybe one of these days it will be better.

If anyone reads this that has walked and lost weight, please let me know. It is kind of discouraging. I have had my thyroid rechecked a few months ago and it was ok. Still taking my rx for it --- as prescribed. Also started taking a multi vitamin later in the day --- thought it couldn't hurt. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Well, tomorrow is the 30th and I've completed 110 miles walked in 2 months. I never would have believd it was possible. I haven't lost weight (go figure ???) but my pants do fit a little different. The weather has been really nice...a little overcast at times and then sunny at other times. I'm trying to figure out what to do when the rains start again and school starts back up (3 evening classes so it makes it hard to walk to work and then walk home to get to class on time). Any suggestions?
Oh yeah, my 60th birthday is Monday. :)

A New Year In Progress

Monday, January 17, 2011

Here it is 2011. Wow. It has been 5 years since we left our home church. It has taken this long for the healing. I realize that although we go on with life there is always baggage that we take with us. No I have not given up my walk with God, I still love people, I still have hope and faith in God and people. We all carry our baggage from our pasts and it is time to lighten the load. I forgave a while ago but the hurt and betrayal remained to some degree (some days were better than others). Well, on this road of life, I've decided to take a small carry-on of the past which only allows me reflect the good and how some of the bad was changed into good. Our steps are ordered by God, but sometimes I don't want to go through the hard times. Without the hard times though, we don't grow as much. So here is my carry on baggage--- I choose to look for the good in people (including myself), I choose to live each day as best as I can, I choose to look for the good in every situation (even the hard ones), I choose to allow the Lord to direct my steps and walk in His grace and give grace to others too, I choose to face the future with a smile in my heart as well as my face, I choose to not let negative situations affect me but to allow Christ in me to affect the situations in a positve way, I choose to encourage others in their walk with the Lord, I choose to give honor and glory to my Lord, Jesus Christ in every aspect of my life, I choose to .....

Biggest Loser Contest at Curves

Tuesday, January 05, 2010

Here it is --- January and the "biggest loser contest" starts next week at Curves (6 weeks long). It is a great way to jump-start the new year. I need accountability. The nutrition page on Sparkpeople is great. It means I don't have to keep a written food journal, just print it out in excel and turn it in at the beginning of the week. Thanks sparkpeople. I hope I do well this time. The last time I did OK but not great. The time before I did great and lost 30+ pounds. My daughter gave me a suggestion----switch your meals around and eat breakfast for dinner. I think I am going to try it. I also am low on vitamin D so I want to start drinking more milk and trying to get a little more sun. For those of you who know this area...we get more clouds than sun but it is still a great place to be. Well...hopefully I do great! Take care all of you. If you have a chance to join a contest like this, try it. It might surprise you.

Merry Christmas to all

Wednesday, December 23, 2009

Merry Christmas to all of you. I really appreciate your encouraging words and interesting blogs. You are all so different and unique as we all are. I am amazed at the differences and yet similarities in each of us. God is so awesome to be so creative. I love to look at trees for that very reason. All the different shades of green, different shapes of leaves and tree structure yet similar in many ways. I live in a great area to appreciate the trees. I love to drive down the "Avenue of the Giants" and enjoy them. My youngest daughter thinks I'm crazy though --- I don't see how she doesn't see the beauty. She says "a tree is a tree. If you've seen one, you've seen them all." I strongly disagree. It is true that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

I have been so busy (and not feeling good) for the last month and have not been on site very much. My friends and I played 12 gigs in 3 weeks --- which was fun but tiring. Lots of good times, good music and good friends. But now I am almost ready to settle down for a while. Two of my children are here for a week (from Seattle, WA and from Bend, OR). We will have Christmas together with my other son and daughter (his wife). My oldest daughter and her family is not traveling at this time which is smart. It is not easy to travel with 2 boys under the age of 3.

I wish you all blessings for this holiday season and for the next year. 2010 is going to be a great year! Full of surprises but not without some trials. BUT trials are what make us all stronger. Life is not life without blessings and trials. Remember "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and look for the good in all situations. Love you all.
