Second Walk on the Three-Pond Trail

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

Another amazingly beautiful, sunny Spring day! After work this morning, my sister and I headed back to the 5.5 km Three-Pond Trail. We had enjoyed it so very much last time we walked there. There are advantages to only working part-time (24 hrs/week). (The other side of the coin is the size of the paycheck.) emoticon

I need to correct something that I wrote on a previous blog. Orford is a national park, not a provincial park.

This lovely brook is at trail's entrance.

The trail will look entirely different once the trees get their leaves.

We walked by this big porcupine who was snacking on leaves.

WOW!! Great photos!! Fabulous you were able to get a shot of a porcupine!! We have seen evidence of one all around the trails we walk, but have not spotted the normally elusive shy critters!! Some lucky person did see it here and it was posted on the weather channel.
That so awesome you get this wonderful time with your sister!

Walk on Three-Pond Trail

Sunday, April 15, 2012

We had another magnificent Spring day today. My sister and I headed up to Orford Provincial Park. We found a lovely 5.5 km (3.4 miles) trail marked "easy" near Lake Stukley. I enjoyed our walk so very much! I wish I could share the sounds of nature that surrounded us - the wind in the trees, babbling brooks, birds, crickets, and all kinds of other critters I couldn't identify. There's nothing like being out in nature on a beautiful day like today!

We started our walk at Lake Stukely.

There's a beaver dam on the shore of this large pond.

We walked by lakes, brooks, marshes, and ponds.

That's me walking on the trail.

My beautiful sister embellishing the scenery.

Wow! Fabulous! Just LOVE that scenery and yes, there is nothing like the sounds of nature!! I am going to so enjoy going on virtual walks with you!! I love that so many of my Spark friends live in different types of areas!!
Have a fabulous week! Enjoy those hikes!!
Mom cancelled our walk today because of the cold and blowing snow. I am hoping it will have killed the ticks as they were getting an early start and seemed to be all over thicker then we have ever seen them before :( But yesterday, I heard a robin singing beautifully outside my window :)

Walk in the woods

Saturday, April 14, 2012

We were blessed with a beautiful, cool Spring day today. My sister, niece and I went for a 2-1/2 hr. walk in the woods with Grace and Rambo. It was rugged in some places, and muddy in others, but thoroughly delightful everywhere!

Even though I've regained a lot of weight, and am no longer in shape, I find that I'm way ahead of where I was when I first started walking. That should be an encouragement for those who are "starting over". Our body "remembers" the gains we made, even when we've lost them. It was hard to start again, but I find that I'm progressing much faster than I did when I first started walking.

My sister and niece walk into the woods.

The path was still quite muddy in places

A treat for Grace and Rambo

LOVE the woodsy photos!! That is fantastic you can get out again and take us along with you!!! We are too far away to enjoy a walk in the forest -its an hour and half drive from here..
That is a long time to be hoofing it -well done!!
Beautiful flower! Our crocuses have not bloomed yet here. We want to walk out to where they are but the path to them was still under water the last we looked..
Keep on keeping on!! And keep sharing your hikes with us!!

Great that you can enjoy that level of fitness. Love walking in the woods also. Today turned out to be very sunny- didn't have time for the woods but got in whatever outdoor activity I could do with my three year old granddaughter.
Wish you much success.

Unknowingly eating bugs?

Wednesday, April 04, 2012

The more I read about what's in processed foods, the more I want to prepare my own meals so that I can control the ingredients.

I don't believe I want to know about the article. I have been trying to get away from all process foods. Seems like I do so much better when I do my own cooking! emoticon

I think stuff like the article is informative. I read something like that years ago.
TODAY...people have this fantasy that things all packaged and LOOKING PRETTY is germ free...when the truth is everything we eat has been handled by others.
Sometimes articles like those sort of take off the veil of what people feel more comfortable THINKING about the products they consume and awaken them to a reality they never wanted to know about. I believe most producers LOVE those type of consumers.
No matter what there are microrganisms present...bugs are a part of LIFE.
We are so civilized it is gross to think we could possibly eat them...the truth is WE DO AND apparently...WE LIKE THEM.

I have totally gotten away from processed foods -just give me my fruits and veggies up straight -but I would rather have the bugs if I had a choice -all natural choices...
Thanks for the info!!
