My week in paradise!

Sunday, January 23, 2011

I had heard about vacationing in the tropics, but never could I have imagined how wonderful it would be! My week on the isle of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos exceeded my highest expectations. In spite of the dire weather forecasts, we were blessed with 7 beautiful sunny days. emoticon (Thank you for your prayers and encouragement to keep hoping!)

Imagine having this exquisite tropical scene as a backyard during an entire week! (We were staying in one of those rooms you see in the background building.)

In this photo taken from our deck you can see the ocean in the background.

As I was tubing down the "lazy river" at the waterpark, I couldn't help but think of the fact that I would never have dared to get into one of those tubes when I was morbidly obese! When we Spark and become healthier, we develop a healthy circle, because as we get healthier, we can do more things, and when we're more active, we become healthier, etc. It was so great to feel "normal" and to be able to participate in any of the activities I wanted to.

Now I know why the Caribbeans are called "the turquoise islands". The ocean is an amazing turquoise blue because of the white shores, made of coral sand. Great for long walks on the shore!

Just lounging around, enjoying myself (with my trusty pedometer securely attached to my shorts!)

Happy feet in a hammock under palm trees. (You can see our room in the background.)

This is the gazebo where the wedding took place.

The wedding went beautifully! I'll be posting some photos of the wedding as soon as my sister downloads them from her camera.

So, after 7 days in a tropical paradise, it's back to reality in the frigid cold, but with invaluable memories and a grateful heart!

I'm curious to see how much I weigh after this week, I'll see tomorrow morning. I need to reset my Sparkgoal too, because my original goal when I joined SparkPeople was to weigh 150 at my son's wedding (a goal I didn't quite reach. I weighed about 158.).

Leaving for my trip today

Saturday, January 15, 2011

My SparkFriends have contributed so much to my trip that I just had to stop by and say "Hi" before leaving for the airport! emoticon

It's hard to believe that just a few hours from now, I'll be getting a wonderful "mommy hug" from my son! (Our planes connect in Toronto. He's flying in from Alberta, and I'm flying in from Montreal.) And that shortly after suppertime today, I'll be in the Caribbeans for the vacation of a lifetime. It feels so unreal!

I am SO glad I've been Sparking for the last year! As the saying goes, "A year from now, you'll wish that you had started today." Well, it's now been almost a year since I began on Spark. I've gotten rid of 57 lbs. of excess baggage in the last year. And I sure AM glad I started a year ago.

Keep Sparking! We CAN do this!

There's good news and bad news

Thursday, January 13, 2011

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

The good news is that I'm officially on vacation as of today, and on Saturday morning I'll be on my way to the beautiful island of Providenciales, in Turcs and Caicos, where my son will be getting married next Thursday. I'm looking forward to the sunny beaches.

The bad news is that there may not be any sunny beaches! The future bride had commented that my son was a bit concerned about the weather forecast. So, I googled it. The forecast for next week is rain and thunderstorms. The only sunny day on the forecast is Monday. I'm not too sure what that will mean for the wedding, which is scheduled to take place on Thursday, in an open chapel on the beach. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Oh well, I'll be at an all-inclusive 5-star resort, with 16 restaurants to choose from. And since I won't be able to walk around the 7-mile island, can I just sit and eat? emoticon emoticon

Member Comments About This Blog Post:

KASEYCOFF 1/14/2011 6:17AM

If it's a 5-star resort, there's bound to be at least one really good gym, so NO - you do not get to try all the restaurants, lol. Hope it's a great trip. For what it's worth, 'they do say' the bride who gets rained on will have good luck in her marriage, so either way, I'm sure it'll work out fine. Post the pix when you get back, and have a great time, Rej! emoticon

You can sit and eat if you promise to walk around the table a bajillion times first! As for the weather, who really knows what's going to be happening a week from now? They can do their best to predict but I'm a firm believer in you get what you get at the time. Even if it is raining, maybe it will let up enough for the ceremony to take place as planned. If not, I'm sure this has happened before and they have a perfectly good alternative. Good luck to your son and future DIL, and enjoy your vacation! I'll be anxious to hear all about it when you're back.

Want to Slow Aging? Get Moving!
