Hey Ya'll! 31 Weeks Pregnant! Updates, etc.

Wow! I'm 31 weeks pregnant! I have so much energy and so VERY happy! At this point in my first pregnancy I was about ready to scream! LOL! Seriously, when Arias was born she weighed 10 lbs & 2 oz and when I saw her I was like no wonder I was wore out all the time! LOL Keep in mind I am 5'1 and people couldn't believe I carried a baby that size.

Baby update: Baby is doing well. Development is on schedule. They are keeping a really close eye on baby's kidney. There was some concern at first (dilation of the kidney), but after my last ultrasound, things are looking great! They are also keeping an eye on baby due to my gestational diabetes. I have been getting ultrasounds every 3 weeks. I will get them weekly when I turn 32 weeks (I guess to make sure the baby is staying on schedule and not getting too big). I have been in the doctor's office every week and although I am tired of seeing that place, I am very happy about how proactive they are being with me/baby's health. The nurse said "we are perfectionists!" I thank God for taking good care of us!

My diabetes is staying under control with diet/medication at this point. I am trying to add some walking to the equation, but my hips hurt when I walk on the treadmill after about 5 minutes. I'm going to buy one of those belt things I keep hearing about. Maybe that will help.

I will try to post a baby bump shot soon!

I Look at Carbs Differently Now

Yesterday I found out that I have Gestational Diabetes. It was a very emotional day for me because I tried as hard as I could to avoid this. The nurse explained that it wasn't my fault, its just the way my body responds to pregnancy. She told me that she had it with both of her pregnancies. I'm always thinking maybe I could have done something to prevent it. I was considered obese before pregnancy and I know that that increases your chances of getting it, but you can be a healthy weight and still get it.

OCD with carb/protein and calorie counting is in my immediate future.

I must admit I NEVER looked at carbs on the nutrition label before. NEVER! Until now because it's one of the things that if monitored will help keep my blood sugar levels in check. It's all overwhelming, but I know I have to dig deep and stay focused because it's whats going to keep me & my precious baby healthy.

I check in with the doc in a week and they will look at my numbers. If the numbers don't look good they will get me started on medication immediately. The goal is NO MEDS.

Say a little prayer for me & my little one.

    Look at the Nutrition Tracker and Diabetes tools through spark! Straight-up diabetes runs rampantly through my family, but my Dad controlled his with diet for about 10 years before switching over to insulin shots. Using the Diabetes meal planner might help you get things under control :)

    I had gestational diabetes too. I was able to keep in check with a healthy diet. Just eat smart and try not to get too stressed over it. emoticon

Goals for 5/21-5/26

First, let me just say I think my daughter has psychic abilities LOL. I was thinking about how I haven't been exercising and how that is a no-no even while pregnant. I really need to be doing something! She came into the bathroom while I was getting ready for work and she said, "I wish we could workout to your Beachbody on the computer." I just looked at her and smiled. How did she know what I was thinking at that exact moment?! She usually does Turbo Jam with me, so maybe she misses it, too!

I have been very lazy so far in my pregnancy. I only do the absolute minimum and thank God I haven't gained a lot of weight because of it. BTW, I am 25 weeks along! Me and baby are healthy. It is going by so fast and I feel tremendously blessed!

So, I decided to state my goals again.

M, W, F - I will do Turbo Jam (slowly and probably modified of the 20 minute workout)
T & Th - I will do relaxation type yoga
Sat - Take a walk in the park with my 2 favorite people (hubby & daughter)

I just have to get it together!

Second Trimester & Baby Bump Picture!

Check out my baby bump!

I'm approaching week 2 of the second trimester. I am feeling pretty good & energized. I actually lost 4 pounds my first trimester because of morning sickness & my appetite was yucky! I feel my appetite picking back up with a vengeance emoticon.

No really weird cravings. Like with my first pregnancy, I am repulsed by almost anything that is sweet (which is so unlike me) and is one of the main culprits of me gaining so much weight in the first place. I am focusing on a healthy diet for me and baby and I take my prenatal vitamins everyday.

My plan for fitness right now is dancing, walking & strength training. I really want to do Turbo Jam and was a little hesitant until I saw some very pregnant women doing it on Youtube. I will give the 20 minute workout a try (with some modifications) some time this week. I just feel that since I took a 3 month break from working out I should take things slowly.

I am looking forward to my next appointment. I just want to hear our baby's heart beat. That is always exciting! We may be able to tell the sex at that visit, but I have been thinking about suggesting to my hubby that we wait and be surprised on the big day!

    That is so neat!! We did not know the gender ahead of time either,,, I knew though, that it was a girl, two weeks after conception,, I just knew..
It sounds like you are being very conscious of your body and how the baby will slosh around in there if you start cliff diving or something!!LOL!
I swam 25 laps daily until my eighth month, walked about five miles and walked up and down three flights of stairs for about twenty minutes daily.

This is the healthiest time of your life,, everything is in sync for one purpose and you are doing well!! Enjoy it all!!
