Today, March 17th, St. Patricks Day is my one year bandiversary!!!
Here's whats happened so far:
My total weight loss is 110 pounds...here's the breakdown:
I lost 45 pounds prior to surgery - 13 of it prior to attending my band seminar, 32 after "getting serious about my health" and prior to banding.
I weighed in at 288 on my scale the morning of surgery - my current weight this morning was 222 - thats an additional loss of 66 pounds since banding.
The first 8 months of so I lost weight steadily...the last 4 months the weight has come off slower - even with increased exercise, careful attention to diet and plenty of water and rest. I believe my body "likes" where it is....and in fact I feel pretty good. I am still 47 pounds from goal weight, and I will press on!!!
I have learned that good food tastes good...and bad food makes me feel guilty. I don't like feeling guilty...i choose to feel good about my choices and feel healthy!!
I have come farther with exercise than I ever thought possible - I now enjoy water aerobics, boot camp, latin heat, cardio kickboxing, weight training, and the treadmill! I still walk dogs everyday for my job, but find I can go faster and farther than I ever could.
I have gained so much - I can do more, feel more, work longer, play harder. I can wear my wedding rings again (near and dear to me), I can ride a bike, put on my socks while standing, cross my legs properly, and tie my shoes without getting out of breath. I can rollerskate, swim, and run like never before. I would not change a thing and have no regrets!
So, my fellow band and bandless weight loss warriors...continue on...the journey is long, and hard, but worth every second.

So glad that January is over...it was a bit depressing. I always feel like that after the holiday hype. Here's a rundown of what I've been up to!
Weightloss/Exercise: I am pretty much at a plateau :( Still doing all the same things - exercising 5 days a week, and I have stuck to my low fat eating and within my calorie range. In an effort to boost up my weight loss, I broke down and joined the local gym in order to do Aqua Fit. I absolutely feel my best when I am in the water and I love to exercise this way. I've been going for 2 weeks now, and I am hoping it will "kick in" and my metabolism will boost up and I'll see a drop in my weight. I do think that my body is much leaner and I my clothes are fitting nicer!
I have also taken on a new business venture! Along with my petcare business, I am a Scentsy Consultant! teresamurphy.scentsy.us Scentsy sells wickless candles and warmers and their products are awesome. I have done direct sales before but I have never been this excited about a product or the company that I was representing. If you havent heard of Scentsy, contact me and I can let you know more about it. I think I just need a "change of pace" right now...something to get me excited about being healthy and being happy!
Hope everyone is doing well and staying warm during this awfully cold winter season.

I hope everyone is busy enjoying the holiday season. I have the lights up, the house and tree are decorated, and the shopping has begun! I went to my dr. yesterday for my checkup, and he is pleased with my loss so far. He counts the pounds lost by the actual weight I was at my preop consultation - we are shooting for a 100 pound loss by my bandiversary on March 17, 2011. I have 28 pounds to go. In actuality, I have lost 105 pounds since my heaviest weight. A couple of things have happened though - I briefly struggled back in the fall and was at a bit of a slow down. I changed my exercise from daily, to every OTHER day - and I lowered my calorie intake a bit (100 calories less) - with a watchful eye on my fat and carb intake - and I had more loss!!! It really is about finding that balance between food and exercise - and it is individual for each person. You have to find what works for YOU, and then tweak it and figure out what you can live with comfortably! BALANCE. I also found out that I am majorly Vitamin D deficient, so I am taking a daily supplement for that, along with my vitabands, and a sublingual b-12 tablet.
I have a had a few new "gains"...and my January blog will be a reflection on my list of things I hoped to gain that I wrote at the beginning of this journey - and I hope to check off a few things from that list in addition to adding some new things I'd like to do in the future. Unfortunately, its too cold right now for horsebackriding - which was on my to do list once i got under 250 - so that will have to wait for spring!
Two of the coolest subtle things that have happened though are my ability to wear my wedding rings again - which I may have already mentioned in a previous blog. I had been wearing my 10 year anniversary band as my wedding rings had been resized once already and I had to quit wearing them. I am happy to report that ALL rings are on my fingers (original engagement ring, wedding band, and anniversary band) and they are a bit LOOSE!!!! Do you think I could convince hubby that for our 25th anniversary in a few years we could get new sets? Of course these will always be sacred :)
The other cool thing that happened to me, and some of you bigger ladies will be able to relate, is that I am able to actually sit with my legs crossed like a proper lady. I didn't even realize I could do this - I just looked down in the doctors office waiting room and realized that I had my leg up and over my thigh!! Whoo Whoo! Ok - so its little, but its the little things that are BIG accomplishments - they help me to stay on track and realize that giving up that piece of cheesecake (or having just a bite!) is well worth the payoff.
I also flew in a airplane, and while I was terrified that the seat wasn't going to be wide enough, I actually fit (they are still too small for average size people!!). But better yet, I didn't have to ask for a seatbelt extender :)
I hope that each and every one of you have good health and happiness throughout this holiday season. Next year just may be the year that some, or all of your dreams come true!!

It's been awhile since I have blogged. Since I got my iphone, I have been doing my fitness and tracking my food with the Sparkpeople Iphone App. Its really cool, and easy to use! I don't get online at the website as much.
Fitness is going well - just started Kettlebell training. We are following a six week program called Kettleworx...its for beginners to the sport. I am sore from my first workout, and anxious to see results! Weight loss has slowed a bit - about a little over a pound a week - but as long as I am going down I am happy. I am thinking of getting a small fill, because I am able to eat more than most that are banded at one sitting. ( For example, I can eat a six inch subway club sandwich, chewed well, with no problem.) For me, the band does not make me fuller quicker...instead it makes me not as hungry all day. I only have 4cc's in my band, and I am a bit worried about adding more because i want to be able to enjoy eating the things I have gotten used too, like MEAT! Any tighter and I think I wouldn't be able to get it down. I am super cautious with my calories, and I count everything I eat daily.
We traveled to Ohio for Labor Day weekend to attend my nieces wedding. I got alot of compliments on my weight loss, and it felt great :) My goal is to get to ONE-DERLAND by my bandiversary, on St. Patricks Day in March. I think I can do it! Slow and steady wins the race...afterall, this is for LIFE. I am posting a picture of me in my dress. I'm on the left with and the beautiful girl on the right is my youngest daughter Jessica.
I hope everyone is doing well and staying HEALTHY! :)
