Nervous! Nervous! Nervous!

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

When I was offered the opportunity to substitute for water aerobics instructors at the REC center, I thought "GREAT! This will give me a chance to ease into it, since I haven't taught in 17 years. I can take some of the other instructor's classes and figure out what I'm doing before I have to teach." Hmmmmmm..maybe not. Apparently God had another plan in mind.

The pool at the REC opens tomorrow morning. The first water aerobics class is at 9:00. Care to guess who's going to be teaching that class? Oh go on....guess. Yep! You got it...little old haven't taught in 17 years ME!" Dear God what am I getting myself into?

I went with the partner guy to work out tonight at the REC center. We went to one of the empty studios upstairs and I played with my hoops while he tried some stuff with a new agility ladder he bought (boy am I glad I'm not his client!) He brought our little flip video camera and took some video of me, and I was really surprised when I saw it. I actually look like I know what I"m doing! LOL! I was less surprised at how little I like seeing myself on video, but at least I feel more like I'm going in the right direction with my hoops :)

He also put the video on facebook, and surprisingly, I havent died of embarrassment yet.

Why the negativity?

Sunday, January 22, 2012

I was noticing today, as I was reading sparkpeople, that there is a tendency by some people to be negative. Or at least to share their negativity with others. Silly things like on a slideshow of dessert ideas, someone felt it necessary to comment "Wouldn't eat any of that" or words to that effect. Oooookay, thanks for sharing. I could see if they followed that up with ideas or their own, or mentioned that they needed suggestions that took a food allergy into consideration...or added something constructive in some way, but that was just...well...negative. I see it a lot, people that don't really add to the conversation but have to say something anyway. It just strikes me as odd. I guess I just think if you're going to say something, at least make it useful or positive. Why shoot things down just to do it?

Yea.... I see that all of the internet. Why bother posting if they can't add something constructive to the conversation...

Everyone likes to judge, especially when they can do it "anonymously"

I think some people just don't know how to be positive. I think they actually need to learn. It's almost as if they think being negative makes them feel better, but it doesn't. This mystifies me. When I'm around people like that, I try to psychically shoot mental sunbeams or something at them. Sometimes it works but sometimes I feel myself getting sucked down with them. That's when I try to excuse myself and get the heck outta there, before they kill my mojo. Know what I mean??

I guess not everyone's mom told them that line from the movie Bambi?!?!?

"If you can't say something nice, don't say nothing at all"

I skied!

Saturday, January 21, 2012

for 2 1/2/ hours. Great workout...but my feet aren't terribly happy with me. The boots that they rent you with the cross country skis aren't always the best for your feet. I felt the one on my right foot rubbing on my heel, so I retied my boot the way I tie my running shoes, and it helped a lot but I think the damage was already done. When we got home and I took my sock off it was pretty bloody and heel is not happy. There's a smaller blister that ripped open on the other heel and there's something going on with my big toe but it was so fun and totally worth it!

Never tried cross country but did enjoy downhill in my youth. I would like to be able to try that and snow shoeing someday.

I'm so excited! I'm registered to take a hoopnotica instructor training! It's in February, and I can't wait! As luck would have it, it's RIGHT by my house, too...that's so easy I can't even believe it!

In other news, it's finally snowing..a lot. I really hope it keeps up so we can cross country ski tomorrow.
