My new nirvana!

Thursday, May 20, 2010

Well I found my new favorite grocery store! We just got an Earth Fare and I absolutely love it!! Of course it is completely crowded right now because it just opened and everyone is wanting to check it out but I am sure it will start to die down. It is a healthy grocery store where the food is either a natural food, organic, or vegan. I am originally from Alaska so this isn't a new concept for me, but living in Alabama now it is really hard to find good health stores so I am pretty happy to see it open. It is a pretty big store and has everything you need! The peanut butter press is yummy!! I made some chocolate peanut butter.... so good and amazingly less fat and calories than the regular. Oh and the meat and seafood section.... wonderful. No hormones, organic and free-range.... the meats look beautiful. I made small chop sirloins with smoked Gouda in them last night, that I had bought from there. Not low in calories but we ate only veggies with them and it was a pretty fabulous dinner! I LOVE YOU EARTH FARE!!!!!!

I've been toying around with going up to EF, but how are their prices? I really love Publix, always have & always will... especially since its on the same road I live on, but figure maybe one of theses weekends I'll go up to the EF. It's not really too convenient for me :( Kroger, Publix & Walmart are all closer lol. My husband would die for the cheese selection... I'm lactose intolerant (though i can handle small portions) and he's not, so he LOVES cheese. He'd easily drop $50 on cheese if i let him. I think thats in part to us living so close to Tillamook (in oregon) lol.

Oh that sounds like a little slice of heaven! I don't know how I would live without my Whole Foods or MOM's Organic Market here in the DC area. Glad you've got one now, too!

So, so tired and blah today!

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Well last night it took me till 1:45 in the morning to fall asleep. I usually am snoring and happily dreaming by 11:30. I didn't eat enough yesterday and I have been taking a steroid pack because I got some mysterious allergic reaction to something... who knows what. Not sure if that could be what is keeping me up or not. It does make me feel a little funky. So I am tired and dragging today. My poor husband got a crappy farewell as he drove off to work... I feel so bad about that. But it is hard to fake excitement for the day when you just want to crawl back in bed and sleep it away! I unfortunately do not drink caffeine of any kind and haven't for 2 1/2 years so I can't give my self a jolt either lol. Oh well maybe I will wake up here soon. I am going to stay positive that the day will get brighter... at least it is looking like it will be gorgeous outside!

Hope your day got better. Yes, the steroids can mess up your sleep. I can only take them in the morning, but I still have trouble sleeping when taking them. Hunger could also have been a factor. If I'm hungry I have a harder time sleeping as well.

One thing I have found that helps me is a B-complex vitamin or 5 Hour Energy drink (vitamins are cheaper! LOL!). These are the energy vitamins. I feel much more alive and alert when I take them, especially after a night of little to no sleep.

The blah feeling will pass and you'll feel better. Give the husband some extra attention when he gets home and he'll forget about the morning. Go enjoy the beautiful day outside (can I borrow some of that sunshine) and you'll be great! emoticon

The day will get better! Sunshine always helps. I'm sure your husband understands. We all have a bad day now and then; don't beat yourself up over it, just put it behind you and move on (as my Mom always says!) Have a GREAT day!

Off to a pretty good start

Thursday, May 06, 2010

Well it has been 4 days now since I have officially begun my healthy new lifestyle and I have been doing pretty good so far. I have been in my desired calorie range. I have been drinking more water and eating a lot more fruits and vegetables. I am actually feeling a lot healthier and more motivated. It is such an encouraging thing to feel better. I just need to push myself a lot more in the exercise area lol. I am such a busy person that I find it hard to make myself a schedule. But I need to do it because I think I have convinced myself that I am too busy to go walking or too busy to go to the gym. Well that will be my goal starting now! Take a walk... take a walk... take a walk! But I am proud of myself.... I am lucky too because I love fresh foods. My father is a chef and believe me it was hard growing up around his cooking but everything he made was fresh. So I am proud of myself and disappointed in myself lol I guess I am never satisfied lol.

You are doing great. After 4 days look how far you've come. Exercise has always been the hardest part of my new lifestyle. For now just try to add a little activity to your day. Take a 10 minute walk or do a Spark People Fitness Video. There are a lot of good ones here and they are all about 10-minutes or less. Don't try to do it all at once. Just add it in where you can.

Another way to add a little activity is to park at the far end of the parking lot rather than up close. It gives you a little more walking in your day without adding a lot of time.

Make each decision the best one possible and have a great day tomorrow!

You are doing great. You've got one part of it under control, now just slowly add some activity. Try breaking it up into smaller sections. If you walk 10 minutes 3 times a day you still walked 30 minutes. Keep up the great work! You can do this!

A Little Introduction

Monday, May 03, 2010

My name is Jessica and I am 35 and live in Madison, AL. I have been a single mom for a long time and I have finally gotten remarried in October of last year. I have struggled with my weight for a long time. I had the attitude of if I was fat people would leave me alone and I wouldn't have to be open with people. I made the choice 2 and 1/2 years ago to work on my attitude and my feeling about myself and in doing that lost about 40 lbs. I am still far from reaching my desired weight but I have managed to keep off most of that weight. I have decided I would really love to have some help reaching my goal and that is how I found Spark. I really look forward to meeting everyone and sharing experiences with everyone.

Don't think of walks just as exercise. They are a chance to get out and relax, enjoy scenery, feel more a part of your neighborhood, walk a dog, spend time talking with husband, kids, reconnecting with others and with yourself. It just happens that you can get healthier, fitter and happier while doing it.

Add a little bit of exercise at a time and celebrate your successes. Be positive and if you slip up for awhile, let it go and jump back in.

You're doing so well and feeling good because of it, don't let anything stop you!

Welcome to Spark People and our team. I'm sure you will find a lot of inspiration and support here.

We have an ongoing challenge that you can jump right in on. The challenge runs in two parts. The first is a weekly weigh in and the second tracks different elements to help your weight loss, like whether you drank the recommended water and stayed within your nutrition ranges.

Good luck and have fun!
