Day 3 is going just fine....

Friday, June 27, 2014

This is the third day that I have been working on a challenge. ...I had a green smoothie for breakfast and a Mediterranean herb Quinoa salad. My first....still not sure that I like it. (i think it was the olive oil)

Keep experiementing to find the healthy foods you enjoy. I'm a big fan of the green smoothies. Never EVER thought I'd say that. My whole face used to wrinkle at the thought or sight of those things. A tasty drink that gives me a serving of veggies but tastes like fruit. SCORE!

I took another spark member's suggestion and added a little avacado in addition to the spinach. It still tasted great and made it extra creamy!

Making some drastic changes and LOVING it.

Sunday, November 10, 2013

I recently went camping with some friends (Tammy and Greg) that have made a drastic change in their diet. I was able to sit and talk with them for a long period of time and I have actually started making some changes myself. I have not had any tea in two weeks and two days. That is a major accomplishment for me. I have found that I actually LIKE water. I have, also, started eating raw vegetables and a lot of fruit. I even cooked turnip greens and butternut squash for the first time in my life. My friend, Greg, taught me that I shouldn't eat anything that my great grandparents didn't eat. One ingredient foods. As he would say, "It's that simple, folks".

Why is it so hard to concentrate on more than one thing at a time?

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

I have never figured out why it is so hard for me to really concentrate on more that one area of my life at a time. My oldest daughter is moving out, school is starting back and I am trying to get back into the groove of even caring about myself. Not sure how to handle all of this at one

I feel the exact same way. As a teacher, I'm always able to focus on myself during the summer because I can put so much energy and thought into it. But once the stress of school begins I seem to fall apart, get sidetracked, and quit.

This time around I am just trying to keep my fitness as simple and as automated as possible. I feel like when things are automated I can't complain about them... I just do them (like brushing my teeth, taking a shower, putting gas in my car, commuting to work, etc.). Why should eating right and exercising be any different?

So for eating, I'm making myself a menu of 3 choices for breakfast (i.e. protein shake with a small high fiber muffin, lean breakfast sandwich with a piece of fruit, or a cottage cheese parfait). I'm also planning on having three choices for my snacks (i.e. protein bar, shake, or fruit with string cheese), and three choices for lunch (leftovers from dinner, turkey sandwich, or salad). Dinner of course is different because my family would not be happy with rotating the same three dinner courses... But I can figure that one out and maybe rotate the same 10 meals that I can make as healthy as possible :) The more automated it is, the less I have to think about it, and the less exhausted I will feel about having to plan it.

As for exercise, I'm making that simple too. I need to get in 30 or more minutes of exercise a day... (either at the gym, taking a walk, a fitness video, or jogging on my mini-trampoline)... I have two weeks before school begins, so my biggest decision will be whether I'm going to commit to doing it in the morning or in the afternoon. I'm still pondering that one. Whatever the case might be, I'm going to commit to getting it done no matter what... It doesn't have to be a full-on sweat feast every time, but it has to be something....

That's it... That's all there is to it. Just eating right and exercising. The rest is just consistency and time!!!! The weight WILL come off if we stick to it! I think sometimes it's easy to get overwhelmed by wanting to be perfect and wanting the weight to come off NOW... Then we become stressed and obsessed with it.... But the reality is that no one can be perfect all the time and that weight loss takes time to achieve. The ones who succeed are the ones that just consistently do it day after day.... And if they have a bad day they just get right back on the horse the very next day...

We can do this!!!
