WHAT I HAVE LEARNED DURING MY JOURNEY SO FAR

1. I do not need to drink sodas.
Mt. Dew was my addiction, not diet either. I'm of the opinion that real sugar is better for you than chemicals. In the past I had set rules for my soda habit. I was allowed one a day. I know now that even that one is too much. Plus I would deceive myself that I was cutting back because my one could be any size. I would justify a 44 oz because fountain drinks are more watered downed than bottles.
Water is my drink of choice 90% of the time now.

2. I cannot eyeball a measurement.
Besides still having to check what a serving size is, I still have a difficult time visualizing 1/2 or 1/4 cup. I just ordered the SP portion-sizing magnet. My measuring cups are used regularly. I also have a ladle that I use quite often and have measured several times but I still can't see that it holds the sane amount as 1/2 cup.
For now I'll just keep on measuring.

3. My health is important.
I'm divorced and the mother of two grown sons. As with a lot of moms, I put my family and household before myself. I put my schedule last. My needs were put last after everything else was done. A few years ago was the first time I had lived completely by myself. I began doing some soul searching to figure out what I truly enjoy doing. Most of the things I want to do I didn't have enough energy to do.
32 lbs down and that is changing.

4. I am eating CLEAN
I find it easier to measure and track my nutrition if I know exactly what is in it. I buy fresh food or single item foods. No more pre-packaged foods. Then I saw a blog on SP that called this CLEAN eating. I like it. I didnít realize how much sodium was in the pre-packaged foods and I couldnít figure out why I was retaining water. WellÖ I was taking Lean Cuisine for lunch daily (thought it was healthy). Then a friend suggested that was my problem; I looked at the sodium content and that was the end of those lunches.
I put more thought into packing my lunches and it is so worth it. I feel so much better.

5. I make less bad food choices
While I donít deny myself anything, I choose to eat less of the less nutritional food. I find that after eating greasy, sugary foods, I feel yucky. My energy level drops and the food just seems to sit in my stomach forever. And, when I do eat that cookie, a few minutes later the flavor is gone and Iím left wondering why I ate it. I could have so many other things that would have contributed to my health and aided my journey to a healthier person.

    Hey girl, I saw that you crossed 10,000 fitness points (congrats by the way). Anyway I thought I better stop by your page and see what you've been up too; which of course led me to this blog. Very wise stuff! Thanks for the post.

    Great blog about what you have learned, I learned the same factors about food in the past couple of years ago, and I too made excuses for being the same size. My realization of needing to get fit had been coming for years. I am confident that we can do this journey together and I am so proud of you, I have already lost 2 inches in my thighs, 1 inch in my arms and 1 inch in my waist line.

    You sound so much like me, the soda, oh it is like a drug to me, coca cola and pepsi. I can not drink diet because I too don' like chemicals. You are doing great. Keep on inspiring. Sincerely, Laura emoticon

My first ever blog

Ok, I have a tendency to procrastinate. I began using SP about 3 1/2 months ago and I'm guilty of not yet writing a blog. Iíve been meaning to get it done. Maybe I need to figure out how to incorporate procrastination as a goal. Any suggestions?

Iíve already come to realize several things about myself, but Iíll get to that later. I just started reading the spark and already he hit my problem dead on. I'm not accountable to anyone except myself. And I am more than capable of deceiving myself. That is how I gained so much weight in the first place. I would watch the scale go up, but when I looked in the mirror, turn the right way, I wasn't that big. I felt pictures lied after all, the camera adds pounds.

It wasn't until I was getting out of breath tying my shoes and the scale hit 230 (my all time high) that I knew there were some immediate changes I had to make.
The first thing I did was look for an iPhone app to track how much I eat. There is a lengthy list to choose from. Well free is hard to resist so that narrowed the options. I checked out a few of them and liked that SP could not only track my food but provided daily ranges to meet. Plus track my physical activity and water intake. I had no idea there was a massive support system backing up my phone app. What a bonus!

Now I'm on SP daily. I have learned so much from reading articles and playing trivia. Lol I don't have a great overall score but that is just that much more I need to know. I'm slowing starting to learn how best to navigate the site. My only regret is the limited time that I have to keep up with all of it.

Great blog!

I am a huge procrastinator & self-deceiver; so I "fall down alot". I love to do the trivia (because I learn so much; LOL!!) My all time high for wrong answers was 6! Part of me felt stupid; but then the other part of me said 'hey, you learned a few things today!'.
