Bye Bye pedometer!

Wednesday, January 12, 2011

Put my pedometer on this morning when I went for my walk. Says in 43 minutes I took 73 steps. Those are awful big steps for 2.06 miles so this is going in the trash. I changed the batteries, re-calibrated it with my steps, cleared it etc and it still won't register much. Brookstone isn't good for everything I guess. On the other hand, the pedometer I got with my starter kit from SparkPeople will register 4 steps just taking the thing from the shelf and clipping it onto my waistband before even taking 1 physical step.
PLEASE NOTE, I AM NOT IN THE USA SO I CAN'T GO TO A SPORTS STORE OR WALMART AND BUY ANOTHER ONE, THOSE STORES DO NOT EXIST HERE!

I still HATE THE NEW TEAM PAGES.

My sleep schedule is all messed up now. I go to bed at 11:30 and get up at 6:30, fall asleep on the couch at 9:30 PM, get up and get in bed at midnight, wake up at 7:15 not wanting to get out of bed, fall asleep on the couch at 10PM, wake up at 6:15AM. No matter what time I go to bed and get up I am still tired.

My weekend is here again, another trip to the grocery store and home again, how fun, NOT!

Hopefully your body and schedule will even out. I know how hard it is to be continually tired. I also have little luck with pedometers. Wish you well emoticon

I have never ever had good luck with pedometers. You might want to look at a fitbit -- they are a little pricey, but so far it has been working well for me (and it was a Christmas present from DH to boot!). www.fitbit.com

Right now I think you can get 25% off at a certain website - if you are interested, let me know. Just bought one for DH and returned the favor.

Still hate the pages too - not much improvement.

Sorry your days are so messed up! HUGS! Just think - spring training is just around the corner...

The new team page layout IS HORRIBLE!

Monday, January 10, 2011

I've gotten a headache from the scrolling on the new team pages, my computer has locked up and my side bar is gone. It plain out SUCKS and i want the old format back. None of this get used to it, if that is the answer than SparkPeople lost a member but they really don't care.

Guess it is time for that Spark break now

Did you see the button you click on to make it stop scrolling? That is what I did and then if you want to see them, you just use the slider button on the side. I hope you read this and don't give up SP. We don't want to lose you.

I hate it too, and as I said on the team leader board, I am not one to mind change, I am pretty flexible, and I am tech-savvy. And I still hate it. Their improvements this afternoon have helped a little, but I don't feel like the page has improved at all.

I don't like it much either. I prefer having my spark points available at a click, without having to go to a pull down menu. I also don't like how you have to open new windows to see when the blogs were written.

If you don't have any announcements or pictures on your team page, you can click that and you won't have the scrolling if it bothers you too bad.

I like it, makes it easier to navigate!

Happy New Year

Saturday, January 01, 2011

There were no fireworks, no champagne toasts, no confetti nor hats and noisemakers. It was me, my computer, and the remote control. I clicked around the news stations but didn't find ANY channel that had a New Year's Countdown. I am in the same time zone as Moscow, Russia, GMT +3, 8 hours ahead of Times Square, NYC and my HOME in New Hamsphire. Sky News from the UK said Happy New year to those in Moscow so I watched about a 30 second clip of fireworks. Woo hoo, big deal, it's another day, a new week here, a new month and a new year, just another day here. My husband went to bed around 10:45 since he had to get up at 5AM for work.

I got up at 7AM and watched the ball fall in Times Square to ring in the new year back home, sent a text message to my son but didn't get a reply.
Then I got dressed and went for a 2.36 mile walk outside. It was 3 laps around the compound in cool 68F weather.
We are having my husband's traditional New Year's dinner of cornbread and butter beans with chopped turkey thigh meat. Of course in the real world, I would use salt pork or a ham bone left over from Christmas dinner, LOL.

As far as resolutions go, I don't generally make them and especially since I joined SparkPeople with the healthy lifestyle change. I would be happy if I released 5-10 lbs this year but I honestly will be happy with what I can do!

I wish you all a happy, healthy, safe and prosperous New Year.
We CAN do this!

happy new year to you! i was asleep when the ball dropped on the east coast. so thank you for waking up to watch it! sounds like you had a nice calm evening. nothing wrong with that... i think sometimes its much better than going out and risking getting hit by a drunk driver! let me just tell you... it was warm like a spring day up here in the mountains... so if you like the cold... you're in the right place!

Happy New Year! I found your blog when I was getting my 'search' point. Wow! Anyway, your dinner sounds just wonderful. I live in a big apartment complex and we had a soup lunch in the social room and games were scheduled for later but only four people played a game of scrabble. I went down to help put the tables away and general cleanup last night and had a nice visit with the ones who were there. Verne showed up and asked if there was ice cream and I found a whole gallon in the freezer so he was happy to get some. Just before midnight three of us went up the the game room to watch the fireworks across the way at the Fairgrounds. They didn't last very long. Then we all went our separate ways to our apartment.

I live in Chehalis. WA. It is very cold, lots of frost but no snow. The frost hasn't gone away and this is day three.

That New Year's dinner sounds like a good tradition. Beans are good luck, cornbread is traditional New Year's fare, and leftovers are frugal! All good stuff.

Happy New Year!

I won FREE groceries!

Friday, December 31, 2010

Today when my husband and I were checking out at the grocery store, he used his debit card to pay. The cashier stopped and said something about it was free. I didn't understand what they were saying because they weren't speaking English but we did in fact win! Apparently the grocery store is running promotions and give aways and we won our cart of groceries so we didn't have to pay the $100 for the food! If I had known this I would have bought more. That was pretty neat!

Nothing is happening here tonight, it's just another night that turns into just another new week and another new month. They don't celebrate the new year because it is not a muslim holiday. Alcohol is forbidden, against the law and can get you deported after jail time.

Happy New Year. Have a safe and happy evening.

A hurricane blew through

Thursday, December 30, 2010

It rained about an hour on Wednesday, got everything wet and made driving horrible.
Today we had a mini hurricane for about 2 hours. The wind started first bending the trees and blowing sand all over, then the thunder, lightening and the downpour, it rained sideways in sheets, you couldn't see to the next block. I know, big deal, it rained. It's a big deal in the desert here, there is NO drainage system anywhere so when it rains, the water floods everywhere and stays because there is no place to drain it to. Mosquitos and bugs will be out everywhere.
My kitchen floor is soaked, the carpets 2 feet inside all my doors are soaked, the window sills have leaked and I heard a drip, drip, drip somewhere inside the hollow part of the bedroom closet but we can't get to it.
The patio is flooded again but my gardener is out there with his squeegee cleaning it up

This picture was taken from my yard across the street

This picture is looking down to the end of the street

this is looking up to the main road

It's still dark and overcast in parts of the area so don't know if there will be more rain or not but the temperature sure did cool off about 10 degrees.

No plans for new years at all, it's just another day, just another start to a new week, another month. I never did see what all the hoopla was all about.
