Another weekend gone

Sunday, September 26, 2010

But it was a nice one.
my son and grand son came up so we watched the lousy baseball game together on Saturday. It was a beautiful day out there too, I had the doors and windows open compared to almost having to have a fire in the fireplace.

Today it was about 20 degrees cooler and damp. I wanted to go to a fair to see if I could find a particular item that I had seen ad several other fairs this summer but unfortunately they guy wasn't there so now I have to think up other Christmas presents. It got cold and started to sprinkle so we didn't stay long. We did have a hot Italian Sausage with peppers and onion sandwich, YUM. The I had to get a piece of fried dough.

It was a very pretty fall drive down there and back.

Now on to cleaning this week and packing up for next week's departure emoticon emoticon emoticon

I can eat better for awhile.

Friday, September 24, 2010

I know what you are thinking, "well you SHOULD be eating healthy to begin with". Well I try. The thing is this, from Oct - May I live overseas in the Middle EAst where pork and alcohol is forbidden and against the law plus the restaurants are all big name American chain restaurants and the traffic to go anywhere is beyond miserable. So when my husband and I are here in the USA on vacation, we take full advantage of going out to good local places, not the chains. I do try to chose the healthy choices but I am tired of denying myself good food that I like. So we go out to eat a lot while we're here. my husband has now gone back overseas which means I don't go out to eat my myself so it's back to chicken, fish, chicken, fish, vegetables and salad for 2 weeks. Then nothing but chicken, fish, bean dishes, chicken, salad and more chicken until next May.

Now to go through the fridge and clean out the junk!

OMG, I think I'd go crazy not being able to have, say, a burger (not that I have them anyway--just the IDEA of not being able to have one would make it irresistible). And no bloody marys! Argh!

Hope you don't miss DH too much. Healthier eating is at least one positive thing for the time being. Good for you, thinking of that!

it has to be so very hard not to have the things you like for most of your year and then to come back and be able to have what ever you want and still try to keep a balance with it all - being deprived for so long doesn't make it easy to always make the best choices but you do the best you can and that is what you should be doing. as long as you take care of you - you will make it work. you are such an amazing lady I have no idea how you make it work when you are back over seas with so many restrictions. I would go crazy in a few days - haha not that I'm not crazy already! lol hope you have a great weekend and don't miss your dh too much!

What a day

Monday, September 20, 2010

Went to the dr. this morning (didn't know I had an apt but they called me on Friday to remind me.) As I figured, weight is up, blood pressure is up and I have a staph infection. I made the mistake of telling the nurse that I hadn't had a tetanus shot recently and got one of those too. Last week I noticed a rash under my breasts, not a normal rash but welt like spots. I washed, washed, put on powder, put on A&D ointment, put on diaper rash cream, Lamisil cream, first aid cream and still did not go away. So today she looked at it and said it's a staph infection that I could have gotten from sweating and my bra band. I have another pill to take for a few days now.
I hope I don't get any more surprise dr. appts because I won't be here when the bills come in.

It was a great week last week driving around with DH here and there to places we haven't been. Very nice back country drives too.

I also got my counted Cross Stitch Just Cross Stitch Ornament Issue magazine today and LOTs of neat ornaments in it to stitch for Christmas.

I'm sorry to hear about your doctor's appointment, but you don't want to mess with tetanus... it's just as well to keep up with it. I got my last shot right after a dog bit me six years ago or so.... I'm glad you had a chance to do some driving around with your hubby - back road driving, especially here in NH, is the best!

A nice weekend

Sunday, September 12, 2010

Last week DH & I sort of finished our large downstairs area, it's mostly used for storing the junk we dont' have room for. DH had to fill holes and sand down a wall then we primed and painted. It looks so much better but whoever built this house did an extremely lousy job with very cheap materials and none of the walls are smooth or even. Eventually we will have to gut the room, finish the studs properly, insulate with the right insulation then use real drywall instead of cheap, thin paneling. We painted it a very pale sage green.
Then DD came up on friday so I asked her which way the room would look better for a family room/exercise area. We set about re-arranging the room, going through storage boxes, throwing lots of stuff out, marking boxes. She found treasures she forgot about.

Today (Sunday) DH & I went down to the beach resort town for their annual "end of season" seafood festival which draws thousands from all over. It was cool and over cast so it wasn't crowded. We shared a New England Clam Chowder bread bowl with friend scallops, he had fried clam strips, we shared a bloomin' onion that tasted terrible. We walked around for almost 4 hours up and down the strip looking at different venders selling all kinds of neat stuff and the "boardwalk" stores having their close out sales. We didn't buy much of anything except a Medic Alert type bracelet for me and had Diabetic engraved on it.

I'm tired but doing laundry tonight.

It's been a good few days.

Sounds like a typical New England weekend in the Fall. I love Autumn in NE, but I hate the thoughts of Winter approaching, it seems to last forever. You'll be really happy with your new exercise room when the snow flies, and you won't be able to get out as often.

It has, hasn't it? I can almost smell the Seafood Festival, from your description. Some stuff can be overcooked or awful there (like your onion), but it sounds like you found some winners! I bet those scallops were pricey, though. Glad you ended up having chowdah!

Busy week

Tuesday, September 07, 2010

We missed the fair this week so my DH is not happy with me. He had things he wanted to do on Monday as well which were on the way to the fair. He's only home for 5 weeks a year so he has a lot to do in a short time.

This week we are fixing up one of the downstairs rooms and painting so we had to go get paint samples tonight.

Earlier we went out for dinner at one of the local better restaurants for their 2 for TwosDay dinner. We had prime rib which was so good! It has been months since I had steak in any shape or form. Yes I cut off all the fat.

Nothing really exciting happening here.

I'm sure it's tempting to try and fit a ton into 5 weeks a year! Sometimes "nothing exciting" is the perfect thing!
