Bootcamp for Tuesday Jan. 26

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Today's workout is my favorite, the dumbbell workout on the stability ball. You would think that after doing this video almost once a week for a year I would be able to use heavier weights but I'm still on only 3KG weights. I can do a 4KG weight once in a while. I also did wall pushups, push ups on the ball at my hips and legs.
I did my Leslie Sanson Walk Away The Pounds 2.5 mile walk for the cardio part.
I might get myself organized and do the bootcamp again next month, how about you? Are you with me?

I'm going to try the heart healthy challenge for February and the 28 day challenge too - although this boot camp has been a good one and I haven't missed a day yet!

10 Easy Ways to Sneak in Your Daily Water Intake

Monday, January 25, 2010

I read this on Yahoo Shine Healthy Living page this morning.

1. Get a fluid companion. Carry a reusable water bottle with you everywhere you go and refill it throughout the day. Keeping a water companion with you will serve as a constant reminder to drink up. We especially love Klean Kanteen's stainless steel water bottles, $15.95, at rei.com.
***Personally, I use a 1 litre milk container or I reuse water bottles.

2. Get a water purification system. Believe it or not, purified water tastes better and will make getting your daily dose more appetizing. Keep a purified pitcher filled up in your fridge so that everytime you open the refrigerator door, you'll remember to pour yourself a glass of water.

3. Keep water cold. For many, cold water tastes better. Add ice or freeze water bottles to take with you on the go, which will eventually melt and stay cold. You can even try freezing strawberries or other pieces of fruit in ice cube trays to give yourself a tasty treat when you get to the bottom of the glass.
**I was told that room temperature water was better, that came from a nurse.

4. Drink water with a straw. Drinking through a straw helps you drink larger amounts in a shorter period of time. Don't believe us? Follow this simple tip, and you'll be surprised at how much more water you can drink in one day.
**I have tried this and it does seem to work

5. Eat water-rich foods. Tired of drinking so much water all the time? A great alternative is to eat lots of fruits and vegetables, which are mainly comprised of water anyway. Watermelon is a great example; it's 92 percent water by weight and blended up on some ice, tastes extremely refreshing. Also try munching on more tomatoes (which are 95 percent water), zucchinis (97 percent), eggplant (92 percent) and oranges (87 percent). Adding more of these water rich foods into your diet can help boost your daily water intake.
***I wonder if Spark People coaches can verify this

6. Add a splash of citrus. Adding fresh lemons or limes to your water glass makes it taste better and forces you to drink more of it. Cucumbers or mint leaves can also be added in for an extra punch to your taste buds -- plus, adding natural flavors will help you stay away from flavored bottled water products that contain unnecessary calories, not to mention unwanted chemicals. It's also a cheaper alternative.
**I have added oranges, strawberries, lemon, lime, apples to my water at different times.

7. Add a pack of Crystal Light. Packs of Crystal Light on the go can easily be added to your bottle of water for a delicous improvement in taste. There are lots of yummy flavors to choose from like red tea, white grape, and peach.
***There is a LOT of debate on this one.

8. Drink water in between meals. Try drinking plenty of water between or before meals, not just while you eat. Make a rule for yourself to drink a full glass of water before every meal and at least half of a glass with every snack -- it's an easy reminder to stop and hydrate. Plus, guzzling more liquids helps to curb hunger which can sometimes be diguised as thirst. Stay better hydrated and lose extra pounds while you're at it!

9. Eat more grains and rice. Some cereals, rice, and grain-rich foods are also a good source of water. Believe it or not, milk added into a bowl of cereal contains 87 percent water.
***Another interesting tid bit, Don't know if this is true or not.

10. Cut back on the caffeine. Drinks like coffee, alcohol, and soda have a diuretic effect and cause the body to eliminate more water than they bring in. So do your body a favor and everytime you think about reaching for a Cola, drink some water instead.
***I don't drink soda and no way in hell I'm giving up my coffee! Alcohol, I don't drink it that often.

We all know how important water is to our bodies and our health so try some of these tips to help you sneak in your daily water intake and rack up more glasses of water throughout the day. If nothing else, drinking more water helps to keep the weight off, so how's that for a cup of motivation?

When I think I will not get my water I got to work out and I am so thursty that I didn't realize that I drank more than enough. It feels good to see the water spill over.

These are all great tips. It can be really hard sometimes to get in all eight cups - I find that drinking teas and water with sugar-free flavoring packets helps me get there. Some days, though, there's nothing that can replace crisp, ice-cold water.

I Make Mistakes!

Friday, January 22, 2010

I copied this from a friend's Facebook page and re-posted it here.
97% of facebook woman users won't re-post this. "I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best." Marilyn Monroe... If you are one of the 3% that will admit to the truth then repost this. I am

Women's Healthy Weight Day

Thursday, January 21, 2010

This is from my SparkPeople Day At A Glance Desk Calendar:
Today is Women's Healthy Weight Day. Dropping just 10% of your body weight (if you are overweight) can significantly improve your blood pressure, cholesterol levels and overall heart health.

This is our weekend here in Saudi Arabia, today is like Saturday in the real world, the day for errands. Had to do a little bit of grocery shopping this morning and right now, I an ready for a nap. No ambition today. Maybe I will take this as my day of rest from exercising and let my ankle rest up a bit too. Maybe it won't hurt as much tomorrow when I do my cardio.

Bootcamp so far & Happy Birthday

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

HAPPY HAPPTY 32ND BIRTHDAY TO MY DAUGHTER! I called her before she went to work this morning her time but I really wish I could be with her.

So the boot camp is going ok. I don't do it as often as I did the others but I'm not going to beat myself up over not doing it. Pick myself up and move on and keep up with the rest of it as much as I can.
I still can't do the cardio video, too much hopping and jumping around. My DDD girls just don't like all the jumping no matter how tight my bra is and my ankle still isn't 100% back to normal and hurts a little bit.
I really do like these bootcamps and will continue joining them.

THANK YOU to the coaches and leaders that organize them.
