Get out the pontoon boats, get the ark ready!-UPDATE

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

This morning around 7AM I was rudely awoken by thunder, loud, long heavy thunder, then the room lit up. We're having our once a year rain today. It has rained now for 4 1/2 hours. I have water coming in my kitchen door, bedroom windows upstairs, the carpets in front of all the doors is soaked, there is a pool on my patio that wasn't there yesterday, the street is flooded because we live at the low end of the compound and all the water flows down our street. You can't see the curb and the water is calf deep in the street. This country can't handle rain because there is no drainage system here so the water just sits in puddles and lakes. My gardner has tried twice now to squeegee off the patio and it has started to rain each time. The rain has also brought out all the bugs, flying and crawling bugs, they are all over.
My cats are having fits and NEED to go out. DH had to rescue HIS baby this morning, Spot ran out the door and right under the car. He sat there for a while then started this horrible yowling cry so DH went outside in the pouring rain and had to kneel down to coax the cat out. Now they want to go outside to see what is going on, they are restless and won't take their naps. Yes they are just like 2 year olds.

It's also the Hajj or Pilgrimage when MILLIONS upon Millions of Muslims from all over the world come here to perform their religious rite. It is also a holiday in the Kingdom when everything except grocery stores are closed. My DH has been home all this week and will be home for another week.

Well, gotta go sop up more water...........

6PM MY time. It stopped raining shortly after I posted and for the most part, they pumped the water out of our street to someplace else but my husband had to go out in town and said it's an absoulte mess out there. The streets are all flooded. My carpets are still soaked in side the doors so I'll have to get out the shop vac and suck up the water.

I've already cooked my pumpkin pie, sweet potatos, white potatoes for EVERYONE ELSE, chopped up the stuff for the dressing, made my cranberry sauce, getting ready to do the fruit salad and the green beans. All I will have to do is put together the dressing, stuff the turkey and cook it then heat up everything else.

Glad that it stopped raining, but sorry that inside of your house got wet. We have had blizzards with snow, but never have had rain that bad. Hope you have a nice Thanksgiving.

I live in the desert Southwest, so we aren't really prepared for rain here, either. Most of the streets in this city only have storm drains every mile or so....but it sounds like we're MUCH more prepared for the rare rain storm than where you are. You've had quite an "adventure" and I'm glad that your hubby was able to save poor Spot from the rising water.

On a brighter note, it sounds like you've got your Thanksgiving celebration well in hand. Enjoy your feast. emoticon emoticon emoticon

How long does the once a year rainstorm last? Closest I've been is the desert around las vegas, and it's incredible how there's flooding one minute...and then back to being dry as a bone an hour later.
Poor kitties!!

The cooking begins

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

I got all the groceries for dinner on Thursday so I will cook a few things Wednesday.

I can feel that I had a good workout today, my arms and thighs feel muscle fatigue that they haven't felt in a while and I got a good 45 minute workout with Walk Away The Pounds.

It's humid as all get out lately UGH.

Note for Monday:
Be Not afraid of going slowly; be afraid of standing still.

We tried another new recipe tonight, not one for Thanksgiving but one I found somewhere. Oven baked Chicken fried steak. It was pretty good. It called for corn flakes crushed but I had some bran flakes so used those instead and it tasted good. I 'll have to post the recipe tomorrow.

The daily desk calendar note for Nov. 21/22
Seek out healthier recipes this weekend. Make over foods so that they're lighter and healthier for everyone. Plan your Thanksgiving feast this weekend, so you'll know what (and how much) to put on your plate.
They are about 2 weeks too late with this one, I did all the planning at the begining of the month.
