Today marks 5 years with SparkPeople

Today is my emoticon with SparkPeople. What have I done in 5 years?

Through reading the articles, emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon I have learned the right things to eat in the right proportions, I quit drinking soda, I started eating more green veggies, I've eaten things that I never thought I would and they actually taste good.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon I've learned exercise CAN be fun, I like how tired I feel after a good workout, I actually like sweat. I learned you don't really need all kinds of exercise equipment, you can use your imagination

I found out I'm not the only one that has failed and succeeded, and failed and got back up again and I will not fail.

emoticon emoticon I've made lots of great friends, I've cried with Spark friends over losses great and small, I've laughed at stories and jokes, I've learned their tips and tricks for things, I've met some wonderful Spark Friends at our New Hampshire Spark rallies, I've lost friends who are no longer Spark members.

I've shared my stories and my life both here in my home country of the USA and overseas from emoticon Saudi Arabia.

I've really emoticon emoticon HATED some of the changes SparkPeople has made to the site and still hate the changes and liked some others.
emoticon emoticon Spark People has helped me figure out what I was doing wrong and helped me do things right. I may not follow through to the T, but SparkPeople worked for me. I haven't been as faithful and lost all the weight I need to lose but I'm working on it, I may not be around as much as I used to but I still find time to check in and say hello.

Life is going to get a whole lot busier in the next 6 weeks, some good, some not so good or fun but I'll make the best of it.

I have been here about six years, don't exactly remember the date but, I too, have learned so much here and met many wonderful people. None in person, but you all are close to my heart.

Been MIA - Update

My Dad has been gone for a month but it still hurts, this Father's Day will be horrible for me, all the commercials on tv are bothering me.

I went to Maine for a few days to visit my wonderful Spark friend Pat (NorasPat/Pat in Maine) We had a wonderful time chatting, sparking together, walking and playing tourist. We visited the Central Maine Botanical Gardens which are simply beautiful and that particular (damp, rainy, chilly) day, they were so serene and peaceful. I hope to get back there one of these days.

Today my Dr. appt. went well, bp was down where it should be, she was satisfied with my progress, showed her my large bald spots in my hair and she said it could be a fungal thing, I need to see a dermatologist, the one at the clinic comes twice a MONTH-his schedule is full until September. Googled dermatologists in the area, not one within 60 miles-oh well, guess I'll just have to go bald. Other than that, I had to take 2 pills because I pulled a tick off my leg last week and the area is still red. I don't have to go back until next year.
Next Dr. appointment is Thursday, every female's favorite Dr.

So that is where I am right now, eating better and getting to the gym. I do a few exercises while watching tv in the evenings with the weights and resistance bands.

    Good to hear the bp is down where it should be. Take care of that tick spot, I'm here where ticks can mean Rocky Mtn Spotted Fever so we're pretty leary of them.

    Good luck with all your appointments. Sounds like you are taking care of yourself, which is a very good thing. If you are having a fungal problem there is two things (maybe more) you can do till you see the Dr. First, you can try vinegar. Just dab some on the spots with a cotton ball several times a day (or rinse your hair in it but it might be smelly). You can also get some generic cream (like Lotramin) that is used for athletes foot. All it is is an anti-fungal. I've used it several times when I've gotten ringworm (which is a fungus I can get from the animals I work with). Good luck!!

The Spark Solution

I kept seeing ads for the Spark solution on almost every page of SparkPeople so I read closer about it. I checked the local bookstore and found the book, entered my information in the page, got my SparkPoints for it and checked out the Sp;ark team. I am a week behind everyone else and really haven't started the whole program yet, it will be a couple days for me to get it together but you can find more information here:

    This is day 8 for me. Already I have lost my spare tire, a half inch around and am down to 141.5, lost three pounds last week .

I bought the book, pre-ordered it because I felt I had nothing to lose because what I was doing wasn't working. I follow the menu plans pretty close and it is working. My jeans are getting longer and I have more energy, am never hungry because I am eating a lot of protein, have no cravings for sweets for the most part.

I got two free workout DVD's but haven't looked at them yet. I like to walk, never been one for going to a gym or working out. But I might try some of them out that I can do in my tiny apartment.

    DITTO for me too. I had to fast for the procedure for two days and then I was advised to drink sugary drinks to replenish my blood sugar.
That was not the week to do it. I will be starting after my cataract surgery so I will be a month behind. In the meantime I am enjoying the book. Thanks see you soon Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Another good workout

I had another good (to me) workout at the gym today, the recumbent bike, the treadmill, weight machines and free weights. We're back on a cold streak here in New Hampshire so hopefully soon it will warm up and I can go for a walk outside with bug repellant.
