Doing better

Thursday, March 28, 2013

Stupid trick I found to help ME drink more water. When I was in NY, I bought a large package of 8 ounce water bottles because I did not want a case of 1 liter bottles or a 12 pack of large water bottles for my grandson to spill all over. Now those little 8 oz bottles are PERFECT for me to pour 8 bottles and have them either in the fridge or on the table next to me to remind me to drink and it's worked GREAT for a week now. Yes I know I will get comments that tell me to use a large jug instead but I'm sorry that doesn't work for me. I LOVE these little bottles.

I'm feeling a little bit better from the cold but the blowing the nose, coughing and stuffy nose are still here. I do use vicks on my feet at night and sleep great.

I'm still shoveling snow off my front and back porches ever so slowly. It's mostly ice so I have to wait until it gets warm enough in the day so I can go and remove the slush parts. I still have 3 foot piles in the back yard though.

I'm going to my daughter's house in Maine for Easter dinner then back home again. STill not making many plans beyond that since I never know when I will get 'the' call from my mother.

Slowly but surely I'm getting there.

I just read an article about fresh pineapple. It says it is really good for you and might help if you have a cold with the coughing and mucus. Plus it has a lot of vitamins and minerals that are good for the body.

Just a thought. I hope you get over this soon. Great idea with the 8 oz bottles. Do whatever works for you!

Have a good day.

Down with a cold/flu

Friday, March 22, 2013

Yep, I can tell I am back in the USA, I very rarely get sick when I'm in Saudi Arabia because I don't go out in public that much but here, everyone is sick!
I ache, sneezing, coughing, stuffy nose, runny nose and just tired. I have PLENTY of chicken stock for soup, lemon/honey/ginger mixture syrup, orange juice, pain reliever tablets, Jack Daniels, tea, blankets, heat, water, etc so I guess it's time to curl up and do some cross stitching or take a nap.

I did get out yesterday and had to shovel more snow in order to get back into the house since all the snow slid off the metal room and onto the porch in front of the door. I did get plenty of exercise too!

I REALLY NEED to get over this so I can get back on track!

It's a shame that you got sick but you have all the meds and soup to help you to a speedy recovery. I seldom get sick (knock on wood) and am constantly washing my hands. I use my elbow to push buttons. When I leave my apartment I try not to touch too many surfaces. Then get home and immediately wash my hands before I touch anything in here. Seems to be working. emoticon

i'm content to stay in and cross stitch also..doing a contract piece wedding sampler and it should be done in a few days and then i have another that i will just do some of the background on..i was hung up for four months with a broken hand but i still managed to stitch..kept me out of trouble for sure lol
hope you feel better soon to ease those sniffles and congestion vicks vaporub on the bottoms of your feet with socks on and it should relieve that cough and congestion for up to eight hours and of course chicken soup

Hope you will get to feeling better soon .... Jack Daniels would be my hubby's choice of meds! How long have you lived in Saudi Arabia? I have some Girl Scout friends who reside there. I have always wanted to visit there but that is a difficult thing to accomplish. At any rate, again, wishing you a speedy recovery!!!

MIA again

Wednesday, March 20, 2013

The wedding was wonderful even though it was cold and windy, it was nice to see family that I haven't seen in a while.

It was so very hard to say good bye to my Dad knowing it may have been the last time I will see him alive. He was
not well when I left. We made sure we took pictures of the grandchildren and great grandchildren with him.

I've pretty much been holed up in the house for 3 days but I really don't mind it, I find it cozy and comforting. It started snowing in the early hours of Tuesday morning and snowed all day, for over 24 hours. The snow was almost gone and now I have at least 2 feet in my front deck and way more than that in my yard from where the guy plowed my front yard. The snow and ice is melting and sliding off my metal roof and sounds like a train coming. I've shoveled a few times and cleaned off my car a couple of times. I haven't done that in so many years but I really liked it! The snow is still new to me and I really don't mind it still, it's the cold that annoys me.

I've been home 2 weeks but I still have so much to do, seems like I'm busy every day and nothing gets done.

that's my life for now.

So sorry you have so much more snow than we did. We had about 10 inches of heavy wet snow. It had drifted in the wind and it was hanging on to the gutters. I snow raked the roof DH used the snow blower he enjoyed doing it but it was rough going. I sure hope this is the end of the storms Flurries I do not mind but this heavy stuff is miserable.
Sorry you had to leave NY, it is good you were able to see your Dad again.
I hope you are able to get out for groceries and hope you have stocked your pantry by now too. HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Wedding day

Saturday, March 16, 2013

Today is my Niece's wedding day here in Central NY. It's COLD, WINDY, a few snowflakes in the air. She is getting married in a gazebo on the village green then there is a reception in the Shriners park.

I got to see and hold my new great niece and great Nephew and they are so adorable!!

My dad is not doing well at all, sad to say that he won't last much longer if he does not have any more blood transfusions which they are considering stopping to let his misery and pain end. It has been a fun weekend with my family!

My prayers for your family. I am a nurse and I do understand that the lingering of a loved one is painful for all

I am so relieved you got there to see your Dad. I sat with my Mother as she passed. I and my stepfather held her hand and It is a bittersweet memory but It makes me feel good I was there. I had to leave the kids with strangers for 3 weeks and it was very hard on them. I have explained it to them and they understand. I would hope there will be someone with me at the end. emoticon

It is a bittersweet for you too, it is good there is the happiness with the young people in the family. This was a really perfect time to be in NY despite the weather, Great decision my dear friend HUGS Pat in Maine. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Busy day

Sunday, March 10, 2013

I got to see my grandson today at his 7th birthday party but he wasn't feeling well. He ate something that didn't agree with him. I got to hug my son too.

I'm still trying to get over jet lag and get re-organized.
