More crochet today

Wednesday, October 24, 2012

I'm still working on my plastic bag crochet floor mat, I added a couple more rows today. I had to neatly fold the plastic bags and cut them into strips, trying to get organized.

Not much else happening here, but I guess I will start over on my count when I get back on the treadmill.

Cross stitch and crochet

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

Sadly to say I haven't been concentrating on the treadmill or strength training exercises unless you count sprinting through malls and grocery stores looking for frozen turkeys that are nowhere to be found in this country. We've done that every day since last Thursday. We've also been looking for other things as well so i guess all is not lost.

I have also been curled up in my stitching corner doing more cross stitching and today I experimented with plastic bag crochet. I have a pile of plastic grocery bags I've collected just for this project. You fold the bags neatly, cut off the handle ends and the bottom end, then cut the bag in strips-(I am cutting in 1-2 inch strips but other sites use much larger strips) leaving circles of the plastic bags, you then connect them looping the strips together. You can make them into a plastic ball. I've used several different color bags. You use an "N" or a "P" crochet hook and make a chain of however long or wide you want it then use single crochet. It does take a lot of getting used to working with plastic.

This is my project so far:

Looks like a fun project - are you making carry-alls?

I don't think I would want to tackle this project. My friend has a purse she made many years ago out of plastic bags and it is quite pretty. One drawback is the straps stretch if you load up the purse. She doesn't know where the pattern is.

Day 14 & 15

Saturday, October 20, 2012

Friday I did my weekly grocery shopping. This week we're having chicken enchiladas, "Mexican soup", oven baked chicken fried steak with Okra and Chef Meg's Macaroni and cheese and salads. The only exercise I got was walking around the store trying to push a heavy cart.

Saturday we went out again to the "hardware" store to get a power strip to make a charging station for my electronic devices so they are all in one place then we went on the hunt for a frozen turkey. We like to buy turkeys and cut them up. Here they do not sell separate turkey breast meat, ground turkey or turkey legs, it's the whole frozen kind and after 4 grocery stores, nothing. So we're going out again tomorrow and look in more stores. Again no treadmill time but walking up and down, in and out I got in over 5.000 steps.

Today was chicken enchiladas with "Mexican soup" and tomorrow is leftovers from today's meal!

I love the idea of a planned menu, but with mine and Todd's schedule, eating together is a challenge more than not.

Good luck with finding a turkey.

Great job getting the steps in just doing normal activity. It all adds up.

Day 13

Thursday, October 18, 2012

It was a good day! Thursday is our weekend, like Saturday in the real world to we usually do errands. Today we stopped at Dunkin' Donuts for coffee, went to an old "everything" type store and picked up a couple things, made a couple other stops so I could get some cross stitch threads then came home. I got on the treadmill for 15 minutes and did some dumbbell exercises.

Our boy kitty rolled in something that stunk so he had to get a bath. He doesn't really like baths but he "tolerates" them, yowling the whole time but he really stunk. He curled up under his cocoon blanket and when he gets out, his fur will poof out and he will look like he is having a bad hair day.

Tomorrow is grocery shopping day so I need DH to decide what he wants to eat next week.
