Sunday, October 30, 2011

This is my SanMan Originals Halloween SAL that I finished tonight. I used DMC Glow in the Dark floss for the Cheshire Cat Grin and green beads for the eyes.

It's really cute -- you did a nice job. I didn't know that DMC made glow in the dark floss!! What a great idea for adding that 'something extra' to the piece. I need to get to my cross stitch store and check that out.

Cross Stitch Update

Tuesday, October 25, 2011

I've done a little bit of stitching almost every day for about 2 weeks and it feels good. I haven't stitched in almost a year and I really miss it so much. I used to sit for 8 or more hours a day stitching. I've stitched complicated projects and projects that only took a couple of hours.
This is part of my latest project, part 3 is the pumpkin. Part 4 will come on Sunday.

My birthday present

Saturday, October 22, 2011

Friday the 21st was my birthday, no big event, nothing at all really since the internet here didn't work all day. I sat and did some cross stitching which I have really missed doing.
Over the summer when I was HOME in the USA, I went into a local tourist shop (Handcrafters Barn in N. Conway, NH) and saw these cute Zen garden things. Little boxes filled with sand and had a stone or two or some little thing in them. I told my husband I would love a little Zen garden for the table top, so I bought a little rake for the sand. For my birthday he bought me one:

I love it, I raked the sand several times and re arranged it yesterday. Good thing the cats haven't found it yet.

The Lifehacker Workout Starts Monday, So Get Ready!

Friday, October 21, 2011

Who's with me?
Ready to get fit with us? Good, because The Lifehacker Workout, our group exercise program, is about to begin. Starting Monday, October 24, make sure you have at least 30 minutes free. Here's what you'll need to get ready:

The Lifehacker Workout is designed for minimal equipment, but you will need to find or order:

* a deck of cards for the Wednesday Deck of Cards Workout
* a pedometer or smartphone app to track your distance for your walk or runs (many running and walking apps have those built in)
* Optional: If you decide to do jump ropes instead of jumping jacks you'll need a jump rope. If you decide to do the additional targeted day, you'll need access to dumbbells, a bench, and a pull-up bar.

Also, if you have an iPhone, download the previously mentioned Fleetly app. This is optional, but a big help because you can view the Lifehacker Workout and exercises on the phone.

If you don't have an iPhone, you can see the workouts at the Fleetly website. So go there and join up. There you can also view and join the Lifehacker Challenge: Join us in sticking to the regimen for at least a month and get your badge. We'll be logging our workouts too.

That's it! On Monday we'll be back with more fitness inspiration. If you have any questions or comments please post them below; otherwise, see you then!
You can follow or contact Melanie Pinola, the author of this post, on Twitter or Google+.

Spark cookbook for iPod

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

I bought and downloaded the new Sparkpeople cookbook for my iPod touch and most likely I will order the hardback edition too. Yes it is a little hard to follow on the tiny iPod touch screen but it will come in handy when I'm in the store and need ingredients.
