Robin 1 - Flume Gorge 0-PICTURE HEAVY

Friday, September 16, 2011

On Wednesday my husband and I took up the Flume Gorge in Franconia Notch New Hampshire. www.nhstateparks.org/explore/state-p
arks/flume-gorge.aspx

It was an ideal day, not too hot, not too cold, not too crowded, not deserted. I was a bit hesitant to hike it because I get winded very easy and I have knee problems but I wanted to do it!
A bridge at the begining:

A view of the walk:

The temp in the gorge:

View to the top:

An interesting tree growth:

Canopy cover all along the gorge and walk:

The waterfall:

Me at the top of the gorge (NASTY picture)

If you ever get to visit the State of New Hampshire, I HIGHLY recommend this walk!

Riding out Hurricane Irene-UPDATE

Sunday, August 28, 2011

So, here I am in East Central New Hampshire riding out a hurricane in August. My family drove in from Central NY last night and made ahead of the rains. So as of 10:45 AM Sunday morning it's rained for almost 12 hours but not overly hard, a few spurts of hard rain but not bad. The winds are supposed to hit around 2PM.
We were supposed to go for the morning sunrise drive up Mt. Washington this morning but that was canceled.

I will post an update later.

7:15PM UPDATE Everything is clear, the rain and wind have stopped. The power did go out for about 2 hours and there was some wind but we've had worse winds with out a hurricane, so all is well here. Back to normal.

Glad you made it through with minimal problems..ww lost power for a full 24 hours, but you're right, i've seen worse regular rainstorms, haha.
Looks like you should have a good rest of the week weatherwise to enjoy with your company.

Glad to hear all is well. We never even lost power, which is amazing for us, although it flickered off and on several times during the evening. We too have seen worse damage, bigger surf, and more rain with "normal" storms. I am not complaining :-) Our place in Western MA may be another story, though...will probably go there this weekend and check out any flooding...

My 3 year SparkAversary

Monday, July 18, 2011

Today makes 3 years that I have been with the Spark Family. I lost 20 lbs the first year, learned to LOVE exercise and look forward to sweating every day. I read interesting, informative articles on the health problems I have, I joined teams and started chatting, I made great friends. I learned how to make tasty, healthy meals.
The second year I gained back 15 of those pounds due to medication problems, injuries that kept me from being able to exercise and work up a good sweat and just plain not making good choices. I learned it's ok to make mistakes and to get right back up and try again. I've made some great Spark friends both online and in real life.
No, I'm not making excuses, venting or apologizing for my mistakes or weight gain because I know I could have stayed on track but it's my fault and I can do something about it. I still proudly wear my Spark t-shirts and I mention SparkPeople to people who ask about it, I still place Spark people cards in places I visit.
I read blogs, articles, special posts, message board posts, I post comments on other blogs but still can't find my own motivation back, but I won't give up.

So I'll start my 3rd year and do the best I can with the help and support of my Spark Family.

Good for you, both on your original weight loss and the recognition of the stumbling blocks you ran into along the way. I figure we all wander off the road from time to time. The important thing is that we find our way back and continue heading in the right direction. Here's to the next 3 years and all the adventures they will bring us!

The eight-glass formula doesn't fit for everyone.

Read this on Yahoo Shine today.

It depends on your gender, size, and level of activity, and so I don't get in trouble with the powers that be here at Spark People, here is the link to the article:

Need a do-over

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

I need a do-over wake up starting Monday morning
Had my diabetes dr. apt Monday morning, they put me on insulin because my blood glucose was so high it wouldn't register, so now I have to take 15 units before bed every night. Not happy.

This morning My niece and I woke up and found out my father was taken to the hospital yesterday with swollen legs and then diagnosed with pneumonia, then her boy friend messaged her to tell her his father was in the hospital in Mississippi with breathing problems (he already has cancer)
My son is going to be a guest of the State of NH for 3 days then rehab for 7 next month so I'll have my grandson for a while.

I WANT A DO OVER!

OMG what a day you had - you need to take some time and concentrate on you first! perhaps this is the kick in the pants you needed - perhaps not quite this large of a kick - but I know you will shine - you are one tough cookie and always make the best of the worst kind of situations. know that I'm here if you need a shoulder! take care of you girl!

I know it seems rough, but everything happens for a reason. Be kind to your body so that you can be around for the people that need you most, like your precious grandson. It will get better. emoticon
