My 3 year SparkAversary

Monday, July 18, 2011

Today makes 3 years that I have been with the Spark Family. I lost 20 lbs the first year, learned to LOVE exercise and look forward to sweating every day. I read interesting, informative articles on the health problems I have, I joined teams and started chatting, I made great friends. I learned how to make tasty, healthy meals.
The second year I gained back 15 of those pounds due to medication problems, injuries that kept me from being able to exercise and work up a good sweat and just plain not making good choices. I learned it's ok to make mistakes and to get right back up and try again. I've made some great Spark friends both online and in real life.
No, I'm not making excuses, venting or apologizing for my mistakes or weight gain because I know I could have stayed on track but it's my fault and I can do something about it. I still proudly wear my Spark t-shirts and I mention SparkPeople to people who ask about it, I still place Spark people cards in places I visit.
I read blogs, articles, special posts, message board posts, I post comments on other blogs but still can't find my own motivation back, but I won't give up.

So I'll start my 3rd year and do the best I can with the help and support of my Spark Family.

Good for you, both on your original weight loss and the recognition of the stumbling blocks you ran into along the way. I figure we all wander off the road from time to time. The important thing is that we find our way back and continue heading in the right direction. Here's to the next 3 years and all the adventures they will bring us!

The eight-glass formula doesn't fit for everyone.

Read this on Yahoo Shine today.

It depends on your gender, size, and level of activity, and so I don't get in trouble with the powers that be here at Spark People, here is the link to the article:

Need a do-over

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

I need a do-over wake up starting Monday morning
Had my diabetes dr. apt Monday morning, they put me on insulin because my blood glucose was so high it wouldn't register, so now I have to take 15 units before bed every night. Not happy.

This morning My niece and I woke up and found out my father was taken to the hospital yesterday with swollen legs and then diagnosed with pneumonia, then her boy friend messaged her to tell her his father was in the hospital in Mississippi with breathing problems (he already has cancer)
My son is going to be a guest of the State of NH for 3 days then rehab for 7 next month so I'll have my grandson for a while.

I WANT A DO OVER!

OMG what a day you had - you need to take some time and concentrate on you first! perhaps this is the kick in the pants you needed - perhaps not quite this large of a kick - but I know you will shine - you are one tough cookie and always make the best of the worst kind of situations. know that I'm here if you need a shoulder! take care of you girl!

I know it seems rough, but everything happens for a reason. Be kind to your body so that you can be around for the people that need you most, like your precious grandson. It will get better. emoticon

Oh Fiddleheads

Monday, May 30, 2011

Fiddleheads? Yes, Fiddleheads. What are Fiddle heads? they are a vegetable of some sort.

I cooked them for myself tonight, they were pretty good, kind of a mix between asparagus and brussel sprouts.

You wash and wash them.

You steam or boil them for 10-12 minutes

Then you saute them in a bit of olive oil or margarine sprinkled with a tiny bit of salt.

We LOVE fiddleheads! But Suzy is right - they're not in season very long. Makes sense - ferns grow pretty darned fast!

The end of the 7,000 mile journey

Monday, May 30, 2011

The flight took off 20 minutes late but not a problem. It was full and cramped. I slept MAYBE 3 hours if that but dozed on and off.

We landed at 8:48AM New York time, got through immigration with no problem, picked up my luggage, got through customs and was in the USA by 9:30AM.

Trucked on over to my connecting flight that left JFK at 12:20, landed in Boston at 1:10. I grabbed my luggage and got on the 1:44 bus, arrived in Concord at 3:35PM where my daughter was waiting.

Headed up the highway and got home at 5PM. I fell asleep trying to watch House around 9PM. Woke up at 2AM, 4AM then got up at 5:30AM.

A week later and I still fall asleep around 9:30PM and wake up at 6AM.
Another busy month starts soon!

IT'S GOOD TO BE HOME!

I'd have slept for a week just with all the traveling...here to Philly wrecks me, haha. Add in the jet lag, maybe a month.
And the problem with falling asleep at 9:30 and waking up at 6am? Sounds like my regular schedule, haha.
