Just Pay Shipping & Handling

Monday, October 04, 2010

I am soo tired of companies that advertise their product as "FREE - just pay shipping & handling" only to read the fine print and see that you will be billed $79.95 (which seems to be the most common price) at the end of 30 days unless you cancel your subscription. Then when you call to cancel, the sales person who you never can really understand works hard to get you not to cancel. When you get past his or her spiel, they tell you you must return the bottle or box the item came in. Additionally, they recommend that you get proof of delivery just in case it get lost in the mail. That means a trip to the post office which is usually an inconvenience that the company is counting on to keep you from returning the bottle/box in time not to be billed.

Now I can just hear you saying, "Just how dumb are you to fall for that?" Okay, so I have occasionally lost my mind and ordered because the face cream guaranteed to do away with wrinkles, or this little magic pill will help you shed 10 pounds overnight (not really). I always think maybe this one will be different and I really will get the product and nothing else for $4.95 s&h charges only.

I should be ashamed, and I should know better!

My hubby tried some foot cream that was supposed to be just shipping and handling. It cost $39.95 and we sent it back. They said they never recieved it. We told them we were not paying for it because it did not work and we did send it back.
They sent a couple of letters and then we didn't hear from them again. All those things you buy on t.v. are mostly rip offs too. My cousin bought one of those little sewing machines and the thread looked like it sewed but it came loose and all the thread fell out. so don't feel bad. I think it is because we want to believe that all people are honest. A lot are but there are those that just want the money and don't care if it works or not.

Don't worry - I don't think there is person out there who hasn't been tempted! And falling for it once or twice is a good way to remember the pain and not do it again!

Taking Away the Respect & Power

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

I am an 8 year survivor of stage 4 breast cancer. I refuse to capitalize the words breast cancer because it gives this insidious disease too much power and respect. It may be my own little mind game, but when I write the words breast cancer, it does take away any power that breast cancer thought it had over me before I beat it. My respect is reserved for all of those who have beat the disease and work to help others get through the bad times they face with it. Let's all work at taking away the power that breast cancer thinks it has over us.

Like Screwie, I find it difficult to make a comment that does justice to your strength and power to overcome breast cancer but feel that I must show my support for you and others in the same situation.

I've been musing what to write in my comment for several minutes, because a blog like this should not go unacknowledged. At the same time, it is really too powerful for any added words.

I salute your strength and your power.
