A day for being thankful for the many blessings in my life.

Friday, November 25, 2011

My sister decided to host Thanksgiving in her new home yesterday - what a great time I had! Family visits when we are now all in our sixties (I arrived at 60 the day before) brought out some awesome childhood memories. We laughed and giggled - a lot!

... and food - I forgot to mention FOOD!
I came, I saw, I ate! I was stuffed more than the turkey, lol.

One pound. ONE pound! OMG! It was soooo worth it!!

I started with dessert and I ended with dessert - I can't even figure out how to log it all!

Today, back on track! Was it worth it? Yes, it was worth it to me. I planned for this and I decided that whatever the scale said today, I was not going to weigh and measure everything that went onto my plate and into my mouth.

I worked hard to get to where I am and being able to enjoy one day here and there must also fit into my program or I will not be happy and feel complete.

I refuse to be bound to "healthy living" if it means never being able to enjoy at least a taste of what someone has labored to create.

Bragging on my sisters creations brought her so much joy! She does cook and bake healthier than most people - this does not make anything "calorie-free".

I hope everyone in SparkLand had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday - and everyday. emoticon

**it's time to put the rest of my birthday candy into the freezer - and not into my mouth! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Your blog made me smile. I love your attitude - Thanksgiving comes once a year - eat/drink what you want and then get back on track. The great time you had was worth the 1 pound tradeoff emoticon

I'm glad you had such a terrific day! I didn't track yesterday and ate more than usual, but I'm sure I did better than most other years, and I'll bet you did, too! Somehow, our bodies get fuller faster when we're not used to stuffing them! Happy Thanksgiving!

Totally with you about holidays. We worked hard to get to maintenance... we can't eat like that EVERY day... but depriving ourselves only leads to worse behavior later! At least for me.

As is, I'm satisfied with yesterday's feast, enjoyed each chosen bite... and today: back to NORMAL! I find the application of the word "normal" to healthy eating to be a great reason for gratitude!

Spark on!

I agree with you so much, Linda! I am not at my goal yet, but I still have no problem with taking one day to celebrate. I also enjoyed Thanksgiving and ate everything with more moderation. I had a weight gain this morning of 5 pounds (how unreal!), but I know most of this will be gone by tomorrow. Thank goodness it is NOT my weigh in day! Back to my regular routine today!

Still some room in the Winter 5% Challenge!

Friday, November 18, 2011

There are 113 openings left in the Winter 5% Challenge. Please sign up now if you want to be included in the Winter Challenge.

This is your invitation to the Winter Challenge. The 5% challenge is an 8 week challenge where we strive to lose 5% of our own weight.

This team is different from other teams, we are an ACTIVE team. You must commit to being ACTIVE in posting points to the Living the Good Life weekly challenges, exercise minutes and doing Weekly Weigh Ins. Weekly weigh ins are Saturday and if you are away, please record your weight before you go.

I think this works because it only runs for about 8 weeks and you don't lose interest in 8 weeks.

Link for the team:

Once it's full, it will be closed!

We're into Week 8 of the 5% Challenge - and what have I learned?!

Sunday, November 13, 2011

I learned my body seems to be really happy right where it is, lol.

I am learning to trust my inner being with the munchies.
I am learning that 120.0 and 120.9 are both still 120! emoticon
I am learning that a little leeway is ok but too much is not ok. emoticon
Now I'm learning to differentiate between the two.

Anyone wanting to join the Winter 5% Challenge, let me know and I will invite you when the time comes.

We need to learn to cook again America!

Monday, November 07, 2011

MIZZSB, Sabrina, found and sparkmailed this to me today - it is profound.

"Morning team!

I found this link this morning, its Jamie Oliver speaking at TED about the importance of food for our children. I was really touched by it... "

www.youtube.com/watch?v=go_QO
zc79Uc

We do need to be educated about foods and cooking. Take a few minutes to watch - it's long, 20 minutes long, but so worth it. And very scary too.

**thank you - I fixed the link! I don't know what I did wrong but I think it was missing the http://

**maybe I am lucky to be "income challenged" since it means I cannot afford to eat out, fast food or slow food - both are out of my budget.

We need to choose right for our children as well. I hear and read many times where people talk about snacks and being around them, that their family is eating in front of them, or that they are upset because they can not have the same foods as their kids or hubby have. WHAT? Love your family enough to feed them healthy at least 80% of the time. They will adjust and learn also from your example. It has been a hard road, but it is changing here. Thanks Linda for a great share!

I also saw his TW show, when he was touring and trying to teach healthy cooking in US schools and kindergartens. I couldn't believe what children are eating. My mum is a chief cook in kindergarten and 80% of everything she uses is at fresh and organic. Although fast and unhealthy food is present in every corner, thankfully in schools and kindergartens there are still some quality norms.

Great blog, and great link. He is right in what he says.
I have always loved to cook and eat, of course... Now the emphasis had changed, and what is important is turning out a delicious and healthy meal. I agree with you that hearing about so many people who can't cook is an eye opener. They can always learn, as long as they have the motivation to do it.
I voted for your blog.
Take care and happy and healthy cooking,
