Another Sparkie makes it to Onederland!

I hope you'll join me in "liking" this blog - please go show support for this fantastic lady who has lost a kid and a cat along the "weigh" and maybe you will "like" the blog too!

**On another note, I hit an all-time high today of 125 lbs! A well-meaning relative dropped off some "chocolate-chocolate fudge cake" from Walmarts/Sams Club and knowing how good it is was my undoing. Mind you, I have been struggling for weeks for some reason - the heat isn't helping.

From this day forward, no one will be dropping off goodies at my home. If I am not buying them, no one should be bringing them in either. A sliver would have been bad enough - 2 very large pieces means I cannot control this food. Add this to my little list of "NO" foods.

I think I need to make a new sign for my door. We used to have a "No Smoking" sign, now I need one for "No Chocolates Of Any Kind Allowed In This Home" to hang prominently on my doors.

I do know it is temporary weight gain, but it should have been avoidable too.

... it says, "no chocolate zone" emoticon

Yeah, I understand that one. It always seems to happen when you are doing really well and it knocks you off track.
Family events have me off track now trying to get through them.

Linda . I know that weight will come off. I have no worries about your determination. Sometimes we do need to indulge just to rememeber where we have been and how far we have come. A few steps down a forbidden path doesn't have to turn into a voyage. Could you make me a NO CHocolate sign for my door and by that I mean my mouth, too. LOL See you in Spetember, thinner,

Oh, I hear ya! There are several no-no-don't-go-there foods. I can do a little bit of very dark chocolate, though, without getting carried far away...

You are so sweet (pun, there) for providing support for Shelby.

Gonna check out your recommended link.

And: my sympathies on the chocolate thingy. I managed to deeply offend a friend who wanted to drop off a homemade fig loaf; had to tell her (nicely, I thought) to please not do it. Because . . . delicious as it is . . . I'm not going to be able to not eat it. And eating it is going to trigger other food cravings. Grrrr. Which I'll be battling for weeks (like taking a bottle over to an alcoholic, basically).

    Hi Linda!
Chocolate is Fatal for me too ..
I don't have a sign on the door but is a great idea.
I think and hope, I am past that now .. if I do indulge I only have a piece ..
I can do that now ...
Once upon a time the whole bar would go in one hit !
To be absolutely honest .. I only like the really dark chocolate any way .
So it is much easier to say no thank you !!

I would like to purchase one of those signs for work. It seems like all the yummy treats that no one wants in their house, they bring here. I don't mind it once in a while but we have a woman here who does it all the time. I am constantly refusing her offers.

NO, I do not want a double choc chip cookie. NO, I do not want a piece of your leftover birthday cake. NO, I do not want a bear claw. I am surprised this woman sleeps with as much sugar she ingests in a day. NO joking !!

A new week! Bring on the new 5% challenge - starts Saturday!

Sunday, July 10, 2011

WooHoo! I can hardly wait to meet my new teammates!

emoticon

Summer 5% Challenge Commitment:
I will walk daily, use my Mini Trampoline daily, continuing to count calories
I will log my fitness minutes daily & do the additional daily challenges to support my team
New Target Date - August 10, 2011
Eat between 1250 and 1600 calories daily
Burn 2800 weekly (400 daily)
I needed to rethink my goals - I was trying to lose too much too quickly, I should have known better. I think this is what triggered my binging. I am not supposed to lose more than 3/4 pound a week :(
I need a calorie deficit of 2625 per week -
hmmmm ok, that should be a 375 calorie deficit daily.

P.S. I will take any loss and be thrilled!!
P.P.S. I AM going to rock this!!

Bounce... bounce... bounce... repeat...

I cannot run - I can walk *forever* but I cannot run.

I bought this trampoline 26 years ago, when I had just lost 40 lbs and met my Ray and I did use it quite a bit back then... until we rolled it on it's side and it became a "clothes hanger" using the legs.
emoticon
I asked Ray to "dig it out" for me again last week - it was so hard on me that it was all I could do to "run in place" for one minute! I did it twice a day, right after my walks.
Today I can do 5+ minutes on it! emoticon

I started with counting my steps - started at 100 *right steps* and worked my way up to 500 *right steps* ( I only count when the right leg lands) and I am going to work my way up to 10 minutes of running in place.

Mine is a cheapie that cost me $20 back in 1985 and although the feet are showing a bit of rust and the leather wrap is all stretched out, the springs look new.

Just another option for people like me who cannot run. It feels so good I wanted to share with SparkLanders!

@Destinye - I have read online that rebounding is very good for the lymphatic system.

FYI, Walmart has one for $30

**what was I thinking?! I ordered 2 rebounder videos - shoot, I can barely get my feet off the darn trampoline, how am I supposed to step-kick, lol.
emoticon emoticon

--KREN shared this with me and it really is great! I bounced "around" and really felt it! www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfqjs9EVkT0&
feature=related

Be aware, I googled it and the lady's mini trampoline of choice is nearly $400! In my dreams!!

I have one of those, had it in the family room so I would use it...did some then the grandkids used it the most. Moved it to the basement then onto it's side against the wall. I bought it after seeing Sparkguy use it with his kids. It is so stiff it is hard on the feet. Did you find any special way of using it? What is the video like?

Priorities!

Saturday, July 02, 2011

I was commenting on a blog and my comment became my blog - CaptainJerry, a new sparkpeople member, blogged "I Crave Organization,"
www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
urnal_individual.asp?blog_id=4314207
and the following is my reply:

Nothing about my life has ever been "ship-shape and Bristol fashion" but I can "C-clamp" with the best of them. So there, I used them!
emoticon

Not entirely true - my life is ship-shape and Bristol fashion because I am able to prioritize - living well is more important than living "neatly" - to me.

For all my clutter, I know that my DH comes first, nourishment second, the last room in the house to ever get straightened out is my own personal bathroom. Why? Not because I am not worth it - I am worth it.

But I married a man 30 years my senior and while my bathroom will always be there and always be messy, my loving DH will not.

Uh-oh! I see a blog here - thanks C.J.!

P.S. Yes, I do envy those people with spotless homes, but I am just not one of them and accept the fact that I most likely never will be. I thank God every day for my DH, my loving family and my own good health.
Think I should pray for cleanliness?
emoticon Nah - I'd really rather just be healthy and happy.

**edit:
Before she died, Erma Bombeck said if she had it all to do again, she would clean less and play more. I'm with Erma!

What a relief to read a blog like this!! I'm domestically challenged (that's a kind evaluation, actually) and given how hard I work, if I spent more time cleaning I'd have no time for exercise, healthy eating, or friends and family.

So: my priorities are clear enough . . . not likely to change . . . and I have a little help once a week from a very very kind and competent lady to handle the pressing household tasks. Worth it to me.

I too married a man 14 years my senior and we each brought our children to this union we loved and cared for them all ..
We had 7 children between us of varied ages .. our life had been mixed, some up and downs but mostly ups ....
I wouldn't swap my life for any other ...
Enjoy the time you have together.... houswork will wait...
Quality time with your love is fleeting .. Enjoy!!

My place used to be so clean we joked "even her dust falles in aphebetical order", but not any longer ! Now its a little dirty (not much), though still organized, and I've relaxed so much more. I laugh a lot more, and love A LOT more. Welcome over to my side Linda, welcome over ! My family didn't matter than, only my "things" did, now it's opposite,,,my family does and things are things, though I still enjoy the nice ones.

I relate to that! I, too am one of those folks who will never have a spotless house, but it's "lived in"!!!!! And it looks it! hehe Our family is so much more important. We just gotta keep it healthy. Neat is a perk!!! emoticon

Like you, a clean house isn't my top priority. I know where everything is though - although it looks like I don't.

Enjoy your time with hubby!

I agree with you. Our family should come first. Not a clean house. I would like a clean house but I enjoy fun and family time more.

What a great blog! I didn't realize CaptainJerry had written a blog yet! I'll have to go read it! So glad that you read it, Raylin! I loved your blog, by the way, and especially BELIEVE-IT's comment, about "clean clutter"! My grandkids are here right now, and I am certainly ignoring a lot of "clean clutter" at the moment! emoticon

Amen to the healthy and happy! Sounds like you've got your priorities right! I am trying to do the same as I enjoy the summer at home with my 3 children. I would rather have fun filled memories with them than worrying about the house being spotless!

    Great blog Linda.
I don't mind chaotic mess but can't abide dirty mess, but I have keeping my castle ship shape and Bristol fashion down to an art.....and DH ALWAYS comes first emoticon

My DH lived away for 2 years before he retired; I spent my mornings before work cleaning house. Now that he is home, I spend more time with him. Plus, I can't run the vacuum early because he is still in bed. So, he does most of the vacuuming. Having a clean house is something I always strive for, but the clutter often gets ahead of me. WHERE does all that junk mail come from???

Great blog! I think we need to be balanced. A senior friend of mine put it well when my kids were little... she called it "clean clutter" ~ sometimes it can't be avoided. But the clean part is really important to me, mainly because I have learned that, it stays cleaner a lot longer than I realized with little effort, but when it is actually "dirty", I spend way more time at it, strange enough -- it's hard to get to that point, but like looking after our bodies, worth the effort!

Way to have your priorities straight!!!

At work, I am very organized because I have to be in order to be a good teacher. At home, I am a bet less organized because this is my safe place, It doesn't have to be perfect. I know where everything is.

Love you,
Marty

OMG! It was delicious!!

Friday, July 01, 2011

Last night I decided to have a tomato.

I started with 100 grams of really lean cooked ground beef, chopped a tomato and added 100 grams of cooked corn, straight off the cob.

Now comes the "delicious" part of it - I sprinkled 1/2 Tablespoon of Parmesan cheese on it and heated it all in the microwave!

OMG! I have 2 jars of Parmesan cheese in my fridge and it was awesome and only added 11 calories!

It was so tasty, I just had to share!

FYI, the only "spice" was the Parmesan cheese. emoticon emoticon
