A new week! Bring on the new 5% challenge - starts Saturday!

Sunday, July 10, 2011

WooHoo! I can hardly wait to meet my new teammates!

emoticon

Summer 5% Challenge Commitment:
I will walk daily, use my Mini Trampoline daily, continuing to count calories
I will log my fitness minutes daily & do the additional daily challenges to support my team
New Target Date - August 10, 2011
Eat between 1250 and 1600 calories daily
Burn 2800 weekly (400 daily)
I needed to rethink my goals - I was trying to lose too much too quickly, I should have known better. I think this is what triggered my binging. I am not supposed to lose more than 3/4 pound a week :(
I need a calorie deficit of 2625 per week -
hmmmm ok, that should be a 375 calorie deficit daily.

P.S. I will take any loss and be thrilled!!
P.P.S. I AM going to rock this!!

I hope that you're having a sensational weekend. Sorry that I've not been posting to your blogs much lately. I'm back to spending 5 nights a week sleeping in my van & babysitting the grandchildren during the day along with working so my time on the computer has been severely limited. Bright blessings to you my friend. Love, Dawn emoticon emoticon

Be gentle with yourself, Linda--play more. You've been wonderful and done wonderful things. Taking care of yourself with your weight goals is wonderful, and it's not the only wonderful thing about you.

122 is good when you're feeling the void where your father was. Noticing the rise is good. Now that you've noticed, it will drop because you'll fill that void with love instead of food.

Love from me, too, as I pass through!

Bounce... bounce... bounce... repeat...

Wednesday, July 06, 2011

I cannot run - I can walk *forever* but I cannot run.

I bought this trampoline 26 years ago, when I had just lost 40 lbs and met my Ray and I did use it quite a bit back then... until we rolled it on it's side and it became a "clothes hanger" using the legs.
emoticon
I asked Ray to "dig it out" for me again last week - it was so hard on me that it was all I could do to "run in place" for one minute! I did it twice a day, right after my walks.
Today I can do 5+ minutes on it! emoticon

I started with counting my steps - started at 100 *right steps* and worked my way up to 500 *right steps* ( I only count when the right leg lands) and I am going to work my way up to 10 minutes of running in place.

Mine is a cheapie that cost me $20 back in 1985 and although the feet are showing a bit of rust and the leather wrap is all stretched out, the springs look new.

Just another option for people like me who cannot run. It feels so good I wanted to share with SparkLanders!

@Destinye - I have read online that rebounding is very good for the lymphatic system.

FYI, Walmart has one for $30

**what was I thinking?! I ordered 2 rebounder videos - shoot, I can barely get my feet off the darn trampoline, how am I supposed to step-kick, lol.
emoticon emoticon

--KREN shared this with me and it really is great! I bounced "around" and really felt it! www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfqjs9EVkT0&
feature=related

Be aware, I googled it and the lady's mini trampoline of choice is nearly $400! In my dreams!!

I have one of those, had it in the family room so I would use it...did some then the grandkids used it the most. Moved it to the basement then onto it's side against the wall. I bought it after seeing Sparkguy use it with his kids. It is so stiff it is hard on the feet. Did you find any special way of using it? What is the video like?

Ohhh, I had one of those years ago and loved it--until it too became a clothes hanger, LOL! I say find something you enjoy doing for exercise and just DO it; doesn't have to be running or swimming or biking or whatever someone else is doing. Make it fun and it will get done, and that is definitely fun!

Priorities!

Saturday, July 02, 2011

I was commenting on a blog and my comment became my blog - CaptainJerry, a new sparkpeople member, blogged "I Crave Organization,"
www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo
urnal_individual.asp?blog_id=4314207
and the following is my reply:

Nothing about my life has ever been "ship-shape and Bristol fashion" but I can "C-clamp" with the best of them. So there, I used them!
emoticon

Not entirely true - my life is ship-shape and Bristol fashion because I am able to prioritize - living well is more important than living "neatly" - to me.

For all my clutter, I know that my DH comes first, nourishment second, the last room in the house to ever get straightened out is my own personal bathroom. Why? Not because I am not worth it - I am worth it.

But I married a man 30 years my senior and while my bathroom will always be there and always be messy, my loving DH will not.

Uh-oh! I see a blog here - thanks C.J.!

P.S. Yes, I do envy those people with spotless homes, but I am just not one of them and accept the fact that I most likely never will be. I thank God every day for my DH, my loving family and my own good health.
Think I should pray for cleanliness?
emoticon Nah - I'd really rather just be healthy and happy.

**edit:
Before she died, Erma Bombeck said if she had it all to do again, she would clean less and play more. I'm with Erma!

What a relief to read a blog like this!! I'm domestically challenged (that's a kind evaluation, actually) and given how hard I work, if I spent more time cleaning I'd have no time for exercise, healthy eating, or friends and family.

So: my priorities are clear enough . . . not likely to change . . . and I have a little help once a week from a very very kind and competent lady to handle the pressing household tasks. Worth it to me.

My DH lived away for 2 years before he retired; I spent my mornings before work cleaning house. Now that he is home, I spend more time with him. Plus, I can't run the vacuum early because he is still in bed. So, he does most of the vacuuming. Having a clean house is something I always strive for, but the clutter often gets ahead of me. WHERE does all that junk mail come from???

Great blog! I think we need to be balanced. A senior friend of mine put it well when my kids were little... she called it "clean clutter" ~ sometimes it can't be avoided. But the clean part is really important to me, mainly because I have learned that, it stays cleaner a lot longer than I realized with little effort, but when it is actually "dirty", I spend way more time at it, strange enough -- it's hard to get to that point, but like looking after our bodies, worth the effort!

Way to have your priorities straight!!!

OMG! It was delicious!!

Friday, July 01, 2011

Last night I decided to have a tomato.

I started with 100 grams of really lean cooked ground beef, chopped a tomato and added 100 grams of cooked corn, straight off the cob.

Now comes the "delicious" part of it - I sprinkled 1/2 Tablespoon of Parmesan cheese on it and heated it all in the microwave!

OMG! I have 2 jars of Parmesan cheese in my fridge and it was awesome and only added 11 calories!

It was so tasty, I just had to share!

FYI, the only "spice" was the Parmesan cheese. emoticon emoticon

Join the 2011 Summer 5% Challenge

Friday, June 24, 2011

I am inviting you to join the 5% Summer Challenge - an 8 week team to lose 5% of your weight. None of the challenges is terribly difficult - it is just designed to keep you on track.

Have questions before deciding to join, send me a Spark Mail. Otherwise, click on the link below and be prepared to have a great summer!

www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/groups_i
ndividual.asp?gid=50696

Once you join the Community, please go to 'Just Joined the Team - READ THIS FIRST' for the instructions on how to sign up for a team. As the teams are being formed, during the time leading up to the official start of the challenge, visit the Community team often and participate in the activities posted by the Challenge Leaders.

I checked out all the teams before choosing mine - I just like the name Underdogs!
Anyone from Brooklyn would relate to that due to the baseball team - the Mets, the original underdogs, lol.

We "race" to various locations by counting up our fitness minutes - there is a maximum of 120 minutes daily. Then there is a secondary daily challenge that changes from week to week.

I got below 120 again by doing this challenge - and I had fun doing it! When you know that your fitness minutes help your team to reach the new location first - it keeps you hopping!

What a GREAT idea! For some reason, I also have 2 containers of it that DH must have bought before he went to sea. He does all the cooking when home. Now I have some ideas as to how to "spice" up my boring...and I do mean boring...meals.

Enjoy your wknd!

I'm finishing up the current 5% challenge, but will be out of town for about five weeks of the summer one. So, I'll be with you in spirit. Good luck to you and everyone doing the challenge. I don't think I'm quite going to make the current 5% challenge, but I'm close. emoticon

Thanks for this suggestion, Linda. I was looking for a new challenge for July and this might be just the ticket. I'll look into it.
Have a blessed weekend.

emoticon emoticonI am so glad you're enjoying the 5% Challenge and the teams. It is so much fun...and the leaders do a terrific job providing focus and motivation. The video links and info on each of the challenge segments (someplace in the world) are like travelogues.

See you on the trail of the Summer Challenge. While I have not achieved a 5% loss of weight, I have achieved other goals and experienced wonderful support others along the way.

Hi Linda - Caz pointed me in this direction in that great way that she has. I am delighted to join the challenge. A small problem (at least I hope it's small!) is that I go away on this Tuesday coming and will not be back till July 10th - just about in time to start the challenge. However, I don't know how much Internet access I'll have when I'm away and wonder if it will cause difficulties if there's anything I'm likely to have to respond to but can't. I ask because I wouldn't like to find myself unable to do the challenge as I note that you are closing the team at some point and I'd like to be locked IN and not locked OUT!!
Thanks for all you're doing - really looking forward to the start date.
Sonia
