Spring 5% Challenge Goals

Monday, May 02, 2011

One of the "challenges" from the 2011 Spring 5% Challenge Spark Team.

List all the reasons you want to lose weight
Get back to my "ideal weight"

What do you want to change?
I need to be doing my WATP more often again.
No more guessing about portion sizes.

How do you want to look?
I really won't look much different, but my clothing will fit better again.

How do you want to feel?
I want to feel good about myself. I want to feel motivated again.

What things will you be able to do in the future with a slimmer healthier body?
The sky's the limit.

And list all the OTHER things that you want to change!
I want to surround myself with others wanting to lose weight and keep it off.
Whining doesn't work.
I need to remember not to guesstimate portions - that won't work.

What are my trigger foods?
Peanut Butter and Cookies.

**funny Tony - I never really liked peanut butter cookies - kind of like loving oatmeal cookies but dislike oatmeal!!

Spark On! emoticon

and the good news is my iron is low!

Friday, April 29, 2011

I finally told Ray (my DH) that I might have to regain a few pounds because I have been feeling peaked lately - you know, dizzy, nauseous, unable to remain standing too long - well, I told him today on the way to the Blood Bank.

They check your blood for your Iron count before you can donate and mine was low - not extremely, but it is supposed to be 12 and it was 11 the first test and 10.5 the second test.

Uh-huh. I haven't been eating my Fiber One because my fiber has been better than ok with all the carrots. And, although I do track it, I haven't been checking it!

I tell you all this because it can happen to anyone. The only signs I was told to watch for being too low in weight were dizzy and nauseous - but low iron can do the same things.

1/2 cup cereal daily will give you all the iron you need. I came home and had my cereal and started feeling better pretty darn quickly.

The bad news - I had already eaten for blood donation emoticon

Just a little FYI.

4/30 - yup! got my cereal in today!
5/1 - yup! got my cereal in today too!

I take a daily multi vitamin for women with iron . . . because I rarely eat red meat, I also tend to have low iron count. Spinach, dried apricots, lentils all help . . .

ONEKIDSMOM 4/30/2011 6:31PM

fyi... you aren't anemic or anything even if you don't meet the 12 the blood bank requires, they told me when I failed it for low iron a couple of appointments ago: you're still healthy enough for you, just not tanked up enough to share!

I was eating all the right things, too. The next time, I passed.

Better get out that cast iron skillet and cook in it rather than hit poor Ray over the head all the time, LOL

That might do the trick. We have a large cast iron skillet that I use quite a bit, but recently purchased a small one good for one to three eggs for breakfast.

Good luck getting that iron back to good levels.

Have a Wonderful and FUN weekend!

MARTY728 4/29/2011 6:29PM

A low iron means you are less likely to rust. I do not want you rusting. You may lift your arms in the air for a picture and rust in the pose similar to the Wizard of Oz's Tinman.

Yes, I never forget. I warned you previously that I attempt humor using a machine gun approach; I shoot a number of attempts out there and hope that someone besides me finds at least one funny. My problem is I find them all funny.

Have a GREAT weekend and I hope your energy level increases. emoticon

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

*sigh* I was afraid of this, it wasn't the grapes and it wasn't the evening fruit.

*sigh* it was "portion distortion peanut butter"

*sigh* at least I can eat my grapes again!

weight coming down again emoticon

P.S. Note to self - you can't put as much peanut butter onto a teaspoon as possible and still call it a tablespoon!

Mama was right!

No dessert until you eat your veggies!!

Veggies are so important to weight loss - they cannot be skipped or ignored.

Grab a carrot and make like Bugs Bunny!

Have a munchy, crunchy day!
emoticon emoticon

**my mama also used to belong to the 'clean plate' society! how often we heard how children were starving in *___* - I remember countless times offering to send my lima beans and onions to them!!

*** carrot cake - hmmmm - that's right there with zucchini bread - not really a veggie, lol.

    Hi Raylin;

Brings back memories and boy did we have to clean our plates. I hated asparagus and they made me almost sick but had to eat them and after an hour, stone cold they are even worst. I would show my children what we where having for dinner so tell me ahead what you don't want. If it landed on the plate it was eaten. Not much they didn't eat just a few things.

Stay focused on your healthy life style and reach you goal which you are doing great with. God bless you always. Learn from Spark people each day.

I actually believe that you can train children to make good choices when it comes to eating. If I had it to do over again, I would be much more careful about how I fed my kids (though ironically, my 22 year old son has been trying to gain weight since forever, but he is not a big sweets eater). If I ever have grandchildren, which may happen in 5-10 years, I definitely will not indulge them with junk food.

I actually love veggies, too, but sometimes I have to remind myself of that!!!

As a complete aside, thanks for asking about my parents. I just posted a blog explaining what is going on with them. In short, Dad is moving to a group home, and Mom is having open heart surgery. Fun times.
