Anyway, I was in a competition that I did not do well - to "not gain over the holidays" - and one of the members, STR, found an interesting article and I wanted to share it with everyone.

No, I am not going to regain my weight - but it does offer another perspective on how low you should go.

It is titled "Your prescription for 2011 is..." and it recommends a slightly higher BMI for better health.

Happy New Year - Happier New You!!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I don't like to make 2 blogs in one day - so I am just going to add on my GF's results to this blog - she got very happy positive reports back. Here is her email to me:

Hi Guys,

Happy New Year! Well, I had the surgery done on December 22nd and went home about 24 hours later. I was able to have the robotic surgery which was wonderful. I got out of bed right away and was hunting for somewhere to smoke. LOL (Never found anywhere) Thankfully, the cyst was benign. I was so relieved. I'm having problems with my bladder however. The doctor says he believes it's swollen and bruised and it's painful and I have to go potty CONSTANTLY . So, I've been happily going along taking vicodin daily. It's gonna be a long road to recovery I think but I'm so very thankful for all your prayers and best wishes. This whole situation made me realize how many dear friends I have and please know I'll always be there for all of you also.

Larry gets his cast off on the 18th. He can't wait. He's been so miserable. He started back to work today but is able to work from home.

Here's hoping that you all have a Healthy and Happy New Year. I love you all so much.

Barb

**Her DH Larry fell and broke his leg during all this "excitement" about the possible cancer! Thank you again for all your prayers. I will put this into it's own blog later, but not today.

The article was interesting, Linda. I agree with you that after reading the article, I'm not inclined to want to gain some weight, but I certainly did find the nutrient research helpful. (I wish I loved onions, chives, etc. as much as I love cooked tomatoes.) Prostate health isn't going to help me much. :-)

Interesting ideas Linda. I definitely agree with what they say about blueberries and am sure that they were a big help in my recovery from serious illness.

I'm less sure about the advice on BMI. There are so many contradictions in the information that is available, although I agree that the pressure to keep on lossing more and more weight is unhealthy. I just go on how I feel now and what my key numbers are - blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol - and clothing size.

Thanks for sharing.

This is NOT a diet - this is a "rest of your life lifestyle change"

This is NOT to be deprivation - this is a "rest of your life lifestyle change"

This is NOT supposed to hurt - this is a "rest of your life lifestyle change"

This IS a working program - we learn that we can eat anything in moderation.
No, not all of the time, but we can work anything we really want into our meal plan occasionally.

Everything is possible in moderation.

Love you,

    Dear Linda,

What delightful and creative use of characters to create pictures!

Thanks for the extra smile this morning!

Spark People DOES offer tremendously helpful support, advice, information and tools for doing as much as is possible at a time!

Part of that is due to the tremendous efforts of volunteers like you, who set a wonderful example for those of us who aren't yet as far along in our journeys as you are.

Thank you so very much!

Sometimes not the answer we hoped for.

Wednesday, December 29, 2010

Well, my DH saw Becky today and Chris will be paralyzed permanently from the waist down. Sometimes the miracle is not all we hope for.

But they still have each other and Praise the Lord it isn't total paralysis.

We thank everyone for the prayers offered up for this courageous couple and Becky's father. emoticon
