Thanksgiving is over, today is a new day!

Friday, November 28, 2008

I did good yesterday but the weight went up. It happens.

I did stay within my range and I did manage to do all my exercising and walking. So why did it go up?

Who knows. Who cares. Today is a new day and today I will eat all my fruits and vegetables. Today I will drink all my water. Today I will measure and weigh my foods.

Yesterday I wasn't able to measure and weigh but I chose smart choices. I did have dressing with gravy (1/4 cup) and I did have ice cream (1.25 cup) and counted them in. I didn't eat the turkey wing (I love the turkey wing!) but instead chose a small amount of white meat. No cranberry sauce. Corn from my garden and Calif. Mix frozen veggies with sweet potato - yes, I had a few of the marshmallows but they weren't candied yams, no sugar in them.

But this is the lowest I have been in 45 years and I guess that would be what could be called a major plateau. But I am going to go lower! I know it, I can feel it.

Onward I march in my journey to a healthier me!

You're looking wonderful! And I have to agree--what a delight to see such a happy face.

Weight goes up and down for its own reasons sometimes, in the short term. You're doing so marvelously well. Thanksgiving is a one-day blip. Someone just reminded us of that recently . . . wait a minute . . . it was you! We'll all get past the holidays, and you'll keep going down through them all--I have faith in you.

I have reached my unwritten goal!

Monday, November 24, 2008

I had wanted to reach 148 by my birthday and today, Nov 24, 2008 - one day late - I am 148.8!

emoticon I did it one day at a time, one pound at a time, 1/10th of a pound at a time! But I did it! I have not been this low since Easter 1985 and was never able to maintain.

emoticon Now I am not only going to maintain but I am going to go lower! This is uncharted territory for me. Dangers may lurk around every table but I fear no evil for SparkPeople are with me!

62 lbs down, 14 go go!

This is me in my too large Spark T-Shirt wearing Size 10 Chic Jeans!

Little Setback - Exercise is sooo important!

Thursday, November 20, 2008

Just before my walk yesterday I received a call from my dad's home healthcare and had to wait for a phone call to see what I would need to do. Dad has Congestive Heart and a fluid problem.

So it was determined to take him to the heart doctor and I fully expected him to be admitted to the hospital again. Praise the Lord, they are going to change his medications and re-evaluate him next week. This meant he could come home.

Unfortunately it also meant poor food choices and no exercise for me. So I am back to 59 lbs down.

My reason for this update? To let new member see that this can happen to anyone, even someone following the program for 8 months now. We are going to have this from time to time. Being unable to exercise properly yesterday meant that my body was using 400 calories less than normally and it will take it's toll when you go over even just a little.

The important thing is to get back on track right away and I am doing just that. I will eat more veggies today and less starch (I didn't say no starch) and it will get my body back to normal again. Flush it all out with water! Lots of water!

**edit: I should tell you what I ate. I had 2 slices my bread with 2 Tbl peanut butter - 522 calories lunch - this would have been ok. But I made DH meatless lasagna and that added about 400 calories to my day when I got home with my dad. I have to estimate since I didn't measure *sigh*

I had my regular breakfast of fruit, yogurt, cottage cheese and had it again for dinner rather than pig out on the lasagna. Apparently the stress made me hungry. Long story short, I was over on my calories about 200 calories but under on my cardio by 500+ and my sodium went through the roof from all the cheese. Best guess is mostly water retention since it doesn't add up to 3500 calories over. But I have always been able to gain easier than lose weight. Just wanted to let you know it wasn't sweets or take-out.

Hugs y'all,
Linda

**edit 11/21 - back to 150.6! WooHoo!!
**edit 11/22 - down to 149.9! WooHoo!!

First, I'm glad your dad is able to stay at home. The hospital thing is hard on everyone.
Second, Look at you handle stress and a little setback. You seem able to take things in stride and come up smelling like a rose. That bit of fluff will be gone before you know it. Continue on your way. I am following your progress and progressing on my own by learning from you,

You'll take it off again. I know you will. I have had some tough days too. I have learned that when I am sleep deprived ....I snack allllll day. And when I am stressed and feeling traped....I run for comfort and sweets. These are good things to know about ones self.

Sorry to hear about your Dad but glad they can do it with medication and didn't need to hospitalize him. I'm sure your pound will disappear tomorrow; those things don't usually stick around for just one day of poor choices. It's probably the sodium.

It's really hard to stay on track with that kind of stress. The main thing is you got back up right away and will do well again.

You're terrific and an inspiration.

Good Morning!

Today's title comes from Paul Harvey with his famous, "page two"

I started this journey on Mar 27 and decided that no matter how much or how little I lost it would be forever. My main goal is still to reach a weight I will be able to maintain. I am just thrilled that my first goal was 15 lbs ago! and I am still going!!

I had to reach the point where nothing looks as sweet to me as losing this weight once and forever. Hence each pound lost is gone forever. Every temptation reaches the same decision - is this worth my not reaching my goals? So far it is always, "nope."

I still have a pair of red shorts hanging up and I tried them on again yesterday! I cannot close them but I could get them on! And when I held the waist closed they looked so much better than any forbidden treat! They are the new size 6 and I will be in them next spring! Bring on Summer 2009, I am going to be ready!

When I started SP it was to lose 45 lbs and I gave myself a year to do it. Well, back in July SP wanted me to eat more than I was comfortable with so I changed my goals to lose 1-2 lbs a week and started dropping them 2 per week on average. The more I lost the more I wanted to walk (Cardio) and it becomes a vicious circle, lol, with me being the winner who is losing.

As an added thought, I started moisturizing to help my body to reduce the outer shell (sounds so much nicer than flab) and I am using Oil of Olay Firming Cream from Wal-marts. While I cannot say it is firming me up, it is revitalizing my skin so it will be able to reduce a little easier. And it is making looking in the mirror nicer too!

Have a spectacular day!
Love & Hugs,
Linda
P.S. I made it - down 60 lbs now!!

Congratulations, you have a lot to be proud of. I guess I have just been at a plateau. I had already lost about 10 pounds when I found SP in August. I have only lost 2 pounds since then, but I have been increasing my exercise and I am walking every day. I got a pedometer and am walking more than 10,000 steps every day. It is still hard, since I work at a sit down desk job, then have to cook supper and other housework as soon as I get home. But I am determined to lose another 28 pounds before my birthday next May. Your motivation does help me stick to my goals. I enjoy hearing from you about your accomplishments.
Love ya,
Linda

I'm Still Making Progress!

Sunday, November 16, 2008

It almost escaped my notice, but I am down 59 lbs today! Thanks to DH asking me!! WooHoo!! My weight is really on the move!

I lost 4.5 lbs so far this month and another inch this week! Finally seeing some improvement in the size of my calves which have been huge all my life. I thought they started feeling "jiggly" this week and I was hoping they would start going down.

I joined a new team, really - it's a new team - and the Team Leader, Megsamama, has a chart that helps me to know how many calories I need to eat daily! Thanks a million Meg, you are helping me to simplify my life!! The team is called, By The Numbers and Meg will email the chart to anyone that asks for it. You can find the team by looking at my SparkPage.

I am using the WATP videos but this week I was given (loaned) 3 new videos and they are awesome. I now have my own set of Walk Slim and I just love the first in the series called Fast Start! I have been using WATP for a couple of months thanks to Huggers1 but these are like a breath of fresh air! I actually had so much fun using the first one that I hated to have to turn it off when the phone rang and we had to go out immediately. (No, not an emergency, but our Golf Cart was ready for us to pick up.) I already had Walk Slim Fast & Firm! 4 Really Big Miles (very doable!) but now I am going to start with #1 and walk my way up!

I'm going to reach 60 lbs gone before I reach age 60! WooHoo!! My chosen picture is my virtual model at 130 because DH & I are now thinking this might be possible for me to achieve! While I am short I am also large boned (no, my doctor told me this) so we really have no idea what my ideal weight will be.

Hugs to All!!

That weight is entirely do-able, friend! With only one pound to go, can you do it by the 23rd??? (Birthday hint, people!a0 I know you can and we'll have two reasons to emoticon

I have one of the Leslie Sansone walking DVDs after listening to lots of folks talk about her. I enjoy it and it gets my muscles all loosened up, but I can't seem to get my heart rate up with walking. So I generally do a mile with Leslie in the a.m. after my coffee and then hit the gym at night. I like the blend of the two things. Occasionally I'll skip the gym and work on a Jillian Michaels DVD, but I'm prone to collapsing in the middle of it if no one is watching!!!!

Keep up the good work. You really are doing a great job and it sounds like you've carved out/put together an awesome program for your needs. You're a real motivator! emoticon
