Fight Fat!

Friday, July 23, 2010

I bought this patch to wear on my jeans more than 40 years ago! Then I was too embarrassed to wear it because I was fat!

I put a magnet on it and hid it in my utility room on the 2nd refrigerator.

Now I proudly put it on my kitchen refrigerator but recently on my bathroom mirror, just as a reminder!

Stay on track! You can make it happen!

**edit: Now I don't want to put it on my jeans - I prefer to hang it as a constant reminder. Thanks for asking!

BTW, feel free to save the image if you wish to use it too.

RE: the Calorie Differential Challenge

Wednesday, July 21, 2010

I was spark-mailed yesterday and asked if it is ok to use the information coming from a "Go-Wear" instead of the SP reports.

Of course!

So today I am just adding that it doesn't matter where you find your BMR; if your source of information is better suited to your body and your program, use it!

Not all of us have Heart Rate Monitors so we must use the estimates we find here at SparkPeople, or elsewhere on the web.

www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial_BMR
.php
explains BMR & RMR - basically it is the number of calories you may eat daily with no exercise and still maintain your weight. It is important to 'know your numbers' because none of us is ever going to put this weight back on - am I right?

As the article points out, these calculations are estimates. In the SparkPeople articles they say that when you reach your goal weight you should very slowly add back calories to learn how much you may eat and maintain your weight.

emoticon I know you can!

Thanks - I find the spark fitness tracker to estimate lower than my heart rate monitor in most things, so I go by that. But I still track my fitness on Spark.

In many cases its better to use several sources of information as one tends to get a balanced view that way - especially when researching theories that are so prevalant in nutrition.

If you have to ask, you can't afford it...

Monday, July 19, 2010

I ran across this sentence the other day and it made me think of my daily food plan.

Sadly there are many food choices that this can apply to. If I have to ask how many calories - then I know I cannot afford it.

But this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. So anything you "cannot afford" to eat, save it for a very special occasion!

It is much easier to live with "some day" than "never again."

I know that as long as I never say never, I also don't feel deprived.

One day at a time! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Right, and besides that, I think that if the question is "how many calories?" then the best answer is really a question like "Never mind that darling, what's wrong? I love you. How can I help?"

Yes, well put. I had never linked the two thoughts like that, but it is so true. I promised myself at the very beginning of this "diet" that nothing would be off-limits, but that everything would have limits.

That is definately the key to it - if something is "forbidden" you want it more and then go mad eating too much!!
If nothing is forbidden, just kept for a special occasion, then you know you can have it and eat sensibly!!

SLENDERELLA61 7/19/2010 3:30PM

Very good advice. I know I often tell myself that if I really want something I can have it tomorrow. Often I'd rather have a larger amount of less calorie dense food when the tomorrow comes, but sometimes I really do want that treat. Then it is decidely the best thing to enjoy, enjoy, enjoy every bite! -Marsha

Really, we all do have days and weeks like this! You will persevere!

Sunday, July 18, 2010

I am involved in an ongoing Daily Calorie Differential Challenge at the By The Numbers Spark Team. This challenge was the brainchild of LOPEYP, one of our wonderful team leaders! This was not my best week - I post it only to show other sparkies that we all have weeks like this - just stay with your program and get back on track as soon as possible. You can and will reach your goals, One day at a time!

Calorie Range: 1440-1790

7/11 - calories 1717 differential -253
7/12 - calories 1893 differential -74
7/13 - calories 1618 differential -249
7/14 - calories 1786 differential -134
7/15 - calories 2500+ differential +600 gave blood, dizzy & hungry
7/16 - calories 2124 differential +307 *sigh*
7/17 - calories 1675 differential -113

Deficit for week = 823
Over for the week = 907++++

Starting weight 117.2
Ending weight 118.5

Isn't it funny how fat I am at 118?! I am learning to keep things in perspective!
