It's here and I am learning!

Wednesday, June 02, 2010

I had forgotten how much must be learned with a new computer!

After 6 years with the old one, I guess I was complacent.

But I have made it through Day 1 without too much grief.

Ray may not agree - I sort of snapped at him in my frustration a few times - oops!

**information transferring takes a lot of time - aargh!

There are always glitches changing computers -and if you updated your operating system too - then that makes it harder!!
But at least you got onto SP ok - and I hope you still have your email addresses - unlike me when I changed!!

Oh, Linda, I know that frustration too! Computers seem to bring out the worst in me sometimes! But once you get used to Windows 7, you will so love it better than Vista! I have a large laptop that is windows 7 and I much prefer that to our desktop which is Vista!

Happy Computing!...

Intuitive Eating

Monday, May 31, 2010

Intuitive Eating.

I have heard quite a bit about this on the boards and read a little in an article.

I think it is awesome that so many people will be able to do this and be successful.

Me? Nope. Intuitive eating is what got me to 210 lbs.

I must have lousy intuition! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Different things work for different people, and I say that for everybody, whatever works for them is great.

For those interested in the concept, I would use the word "mindful" and I stress that it is absolutely key never to eat while doing something else. Drink water or, say, lemon verbena tea sweetened only with saccharine or splenda while doing something else? Fine. Eat or drink even green or chamomile tea while doing something else, no. The key to mindful or intuitive eating is that you must be paying attention at every moment that you are consuming a nutrient whether it is satisfying the hunger you're feeling and if not, what would. You must, with mindful eating, eat slowly, focus on the food, and stop frequently to notice whether you're thirsty, because water is important. It must not be used as an excuse for failing to pay attention. It's okay to say, "I'm not there yet," but to say, "I'm doing mindful / intuitive eating instead of keeping track" and then fail to pay attention is cheating yourself. There's no point in that. To say, "the most I can do now is try to be mindful as much as I can, but I know I haven't addressed that part of my program" is a different thing.

In the end, mindful eating can work, and work well, but it's a strategy that requires a special kind of attention: an attention that is every bit as demanding, in its own separate way, as keeping track. Anybody who doesn't realize that is not really using mindful eating. I have seen the words "intuitive eating" but that strikes me as disaster, which is why I keep to the language "mindful," but that's me.

To everyone what works for her or him.

What you're doing is setting a great example of how your strategy can work for people!

Yay Linda!

So true!! I don't eat anything (at home) without weighing it or measuring it. It's even gotten to the point where I bring a 1 cup measure and an extra container to the ballpark to measure out my serving of pasta (when I buy the pasta, that is!)... it's the only way I can control my eating. But it is still so difficult when eating out. emoticon emoticon

Wow! I really did good!!

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Today I went looking to see how much the cable to transfer info would cost and my computer package is no longer there!

The "cheaper" package without the monitor is still there and the identical computer with monitor would be $1267 and not the $1088 I paid, both before S&H and taxes (7% in Miss.)!

By buying on Sunday I saved $179 and upgraded the monitor as well! WooHoo!

I am a happy camper!
emoticon emoticon it shipped! emoticon

    I love it!!

It sounds like you are wanting to transfer from old to new?? The guys at Best Buy suggested to me to use a flash drive or some other type of external drive to move what I wanted to. Don't know if that would work for you or not. I have not done it yet. I have one more school newsletter to write on some older software & then I'll be doing it! I have 'the book'. It holds quite a lot. You may be a major techie & here I am....but there ya go, just in case.

Oy! I owe, I owe...

Sunday, May 23, 2010

So I took the plunge and hit the Order button!

I don't know what some of it means but this is what I got:

AMD Phenom X6 1055T + ATI Radeon HD 5670 1GB (video card)
Windows 7
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz - 4 DIMMs
Monitor Dell 21.5" Widescreen
HD 1.5TB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 1.56MB Cache (??)
16X DVD+/- RW Drive
2 year basic in home warranty

www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic
.aspx/deals/popular_desktops?c=us&cs=1
9&l=en&s=dhs&redirect=1

I purchased the last one to the right - with monitor.

If I can get 6 years out of it (I am just past 6 years on my current computer) I will be thrilled almost as much as losing weight! It sure is scary hitting the order button! I think I am hyperventilating!!

Thank you for explaining Cache to me MIKIIO!

    Best of luck!

Dell's support on my 3 y/o computer was fabulous. (I got the five year warranty.)

Also, reviews on Windows 7 are excellent.

That's not to say that the Mac isn't still running a swankier and faster show, but W7 is getting excellent reviews.

Best of luck!

Cache refers to the cache memory. It stores copies of the data you use the most frequently on your main memory locations.

I'm also nervous when I order pricey items.

You are completely updated now. ;)
