Day 6 Bootcamp

Friday, January 08, 2010

Your Day 6 workout video for Friday, January 8, can be found here:
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness
_articles.asp?id=1165

Also, do 30 minutes cardio of your choice today as well.

Your Bonus Challenge for Friday (optional) is to limit your caffeine intake today. Turn to natural energy boosters instead. Too much caffeine can leave you irritated and jittery. After the "buzz" wears off, you could end up feeling more tired than before. Instead of reaching for a cup of coffee or a sugary, calorie-laden soda mid-afternoon, try taking a short walk, doing a crossword puzzle or breathing deeply for a couple of minutes. Eat slow-digesting protein and whole grains at lunch to help prevent afternoon drowsiness, and avoid overloading on simple carbs mid-day.

I was just having my only cup of coffee for the day! when I read this. So the cup is going into the 'fridge for tomorrow! I only drank about 1/3 so I am going to consider the bonus challenge as a success today!

**I am such a DoDo sometimes - I found alternate Cardio Videos for Sunday but I am not sure who else had as much trouble as I - I am posting the 3 alternates here for anyone interested.

I really like this one!

There was even an alternative to the Jumping Jacks!!

I haven't looked at these, but you can if you are interested:

**edit: Is it only me or is the balance ball kind of big for this? Trying to get the ball behind me was tricky to say the least. I did manage to do the exercise - just curious if anyone else thought a smaller ball might work better?
I really can't believe how much fun I am having with this BootCamp this year!

Maybe your ball is too large. There are different size balls and I have two of the them. I agree - one of the balls was just too large for me to do the exercises comfortably (if you can call exercise comfortable). Anyway - I had to switch to the smaller ball. I guess we are just too short for those larger balls. :)

Thank you for the alternate cardio videos...I couldn't do the other one at all because I just can't get both feet off the floor at the same time!

I also could not do half of today's video. My arms were not long enough to hold the ball behind my back in a way that allowed me to raise it up at all. I also had no arm length left to push myself up off the ball - they just reached the ball as I sat on it! But I did what I could!

I think this week has gone pretty well.... I definitely have room to improve for next week and am looking forward to the challenge!!

Let's keep up the great work!

I am not happy lately with this particluar bootcamp. Maybe just because I don't feel good.

Love you,

Like you, I was having my second cup of coffee when I read the optional challenge (yikes!)... But I can't function without it in the morning! And it is such a habit than I had a third one after going back home!
I'm having fun too -so much easier for me than last year, that I'm actually enjoying it, and I can do also my cardio.

I have cut my coffee in half today, instead my usual 4, I had 2, so i considered to have met this challenge. Good jog posting the fitness video, I have down loaded all of them, thanks for sharing. We rock this bootcamp don't we. Cheers

Good job on putting away the coffee. I would have had an issue with that challenge if I was doing the boot camp. My morning coffee helps warm me up and gets me going at 5 am.

Day 5 Bootcamp

Thursday, January 07, 2010

Your Day 5 workout video for Thursday, January 7, can be found here:
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness
_articles.asp?id=1087

Also, do 30 minutes cardio of your choice today as well.

Your Bonus Challenge for Thursday (optional) is to also do the Lower Body Stretching Video after your Bootcamp workout. You can do it later on, but you have to make sure your muscles are already warm, so right after your cardio workout would be best! Here's the video link:
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness
_articles.asp?id=1028

I completed today's BootCamp but I was confused - the Bonus Challenge Stretch was already included in the BootCamp video? emoticon

These would be so much easier if there was a BootCamp DVD so I could pause when I have to roll around and also to see what to do next.

Anyway, I have completed Day 5 BootCamp - video, bonus video & cardio!

I wondered the same thing about the extra stretching video....guess they figure we can't get enough stretching. emoticon

Today's workout went fine but I'll tell ya, my abs and lower back were killing me this morning when I went to get out of bed! I didn't think I had really been able to accomplish much while rolling around on that ball but boy was I wrong!! emoticon

Ok, now onward to tomorrow!! Let's all keep up the great momentum we've got going.

Chapter 4 in The Spark & Day 4 SP Bootcamp!

Wednesday, January 06, 2010

I am determined not to rush my way through The Spark. I am amazed at how many ideals I have already been following without knowing it!

When I read the Paragraph Breakthroughs, I knew this was my today's blog.

My Aha Moment - When I realized I could do this! Before I reached my first written goal of 165 lbs, I changed it to 148 and then dared to dream I could reach 135!

My WooHoo Moment - Being a normal weight of 135 for the first time in my memory and realizing I didn't have to stop yet, I could go lower!!

My Breakthrough Point - Knowing I could maintain ANY weight I reached!

Day 4 Bootcamp:
Your Day 4 workout video for Wednesday, January 6, can be found here:
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/fitness
_artic les.asp?id=1177

Also, do 30 minutes cardio of your choice today as well.

Your Bonus Challenge for Wednesday (optional) is to eat at least 3 servings of fresh, frozen or canned vegetables today. Besides being nutritious, veggies can fill you up on fewer calories so that you're more likely to stick with your healthful eating plan for the day. The Nutrition section under our "Healthy Lifestyle" tab is full of tips to add veggies to your day, so check out the articles there if you need some help.

Done, done, done! But I did have to modify the last plank and just do it on my elbows! I tried with the hands - just too soon for me!

Linda, you are such an inspiration to me and so many others. I just wanted to let you know how much your positive attitude affects me! I've never met you but I sometimes think, "Linda would want me to get some nutritious food instead of the junk I am craving." I remember you told me "one day at a time" or "one moment at a time" when I posted on my blog that I was feeling everything and everyone was against me and that I had no hope. You gave me hope. What a wonderful gift!

I'm determined to read through the Spark and take my time, too! I am still in the introduction.

Day 3 Bootcamp Video Challenge

Why I am eating bread again!

Monday, January 04, 2010

Like most "dieters" I pretty much had quit eating bread unless I had no choice (when I donate blood I bring a sandwich because I am not home for lunch).

Back in June I noticed my hair was starting to thin emoticon

I started doing some research and found I was very low in Zinc and Magnesium - the Zinc did help as the hair at my temples started returning - but I still had some thin/balding spots in the back! More research and I asked my co-leader from At Goal & Maintaining and she recommended I start taking Hair, Skin & Nails. Well, there is more than one H S & N on the market - one is vitamins, the other is the herb Horsetail which I have learned is silica. I was taking the Zinc, H S & N (both kinds) and after my last haircut and asking the hairdresser I am also taking a Magnesium tablet daily. Yes! Thankfully the hair is regrowing, everywhere!

Back to the bread. I am tracking nutrients that I seem to be having difficulty consuming and lately I noticed that Bread seems to have a little of everything! Has to be the wheat flour!! (No, I do not use Whole Wheat Flour - my DH doesn't like it.) But it has reminded me that "Bread is the staff of life" in the Bible!

And this is why I am eating bread again! I eat a slice of my own rather fattening bread every day now. It is giving me all sorts of trace minerals and vitamins!

Maybe flour is so fattening because it is so full of nutrients?!

**edit:
Monday Challenge was lower body video - did pretty darn good but had to use the walker to balance for the single leg stuff.
Ate my fruits for the bonus challenge!

Wow, this is all new to me so I found it hugely interesting. I'm a carboholic and have never given up my bread - not for anything. I tried the Arnold Sandwich Thins in rye this week... OMG! Heaven! I'm so glad you found the answer you needed, Linda.

Linda, you are one smart chick, you have an issue you search out a solution. This is why you are such a great success. I can not wait for the day I can maintain and get bring back in moderation a few things I have always loved. But bread is my weakness and until I get my poo together it will still be off limits. I am working on my inner strength as much as I am working on my outer. Hugs, Em

I love bread too....it would be hard to give it up completely. I treat myself to an Arnold's Sandwich Thin most days. They come in multi grain, wheat and white. I love 'em. High in fiber and low in cal (about 100). Yum!

Great blog. I am not a "dieter"...but am a Weight Watcher....that's why I love the program so much. It's doeable! There isn't any food I have to deprive myself of...I have just switched from white flour to whole wheat flour/ white bread to whole wheat bread, pasta, tortillas etc; I also limit my intake of bread/carbs...but for what it's worth - I lead a normal healthy lifestyle by enjoying all my favorite foods in moderation. Extremes just don't work for me.

Thanks for confirming what I already knew. You are on the right track.

Interesting blog Linda, and helpful as usual.

My hair also fell out at an alarming rate last year as a reaction to medical trauma. I had it cropped short and my hairdresser advised me to eat wholemeal bread as well as Brazil nuts and small bananas (1 of each a day). My hair has thickened up again but I've kept it short. I would never have had the nerve to cut it so short if it hadn't fallen out but everyone says it's taken years off me so it's part of my new look these days. Oddly it was straight before it fell out but has come back with a wave it it and a much better texture.

Oh, I'm so glad abut your hair, Linda! I know what it's like to have one's "crowning glory" become less so, having had my hair periodically thin from general anesthesia. So glad this mix of minerals plus the silica are helping! Plus, the extra zinc should enhance your immunity, and magnesia helps our bods absorb calcium...so emoticon And that flour is enriched...cereal's the same, so when I eat my cereal, I see my nutrient numbers go up :) All the best, Susan
